Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 2160: Chapter 2161: An Jing Clings to a Powerful Patron (Part 1)

Lin Jiecheng was so annoyed by Lin Anrou’s confrontation that he wanted to go up and hit Lin Anrou again, but Wu Meifeng held him back firmly, refusing to let him hit her.

Wu Meifeng even cried out, ”Old Lin, you can’t hit Anrou—we’re still counting on her marrying a rich man so we can enjoy the good life. If you ruin her pretty face, how can rich people be interested in her?”

Lin Jiecheng immediately said, ”Of course I expect her to marry someone wealthy, but has she married anyone yet? Since high school, she’s been mingling with rich classmates, and what happened? She got played over and over and hasn’t married anyone! When can we start enjoying the good life? Frankly, it’s more reliable for her to give money every month now!”

Lin Anrou didn’t get into college; she started working right after high school graduation. She relied on her looks to land a receptionist job, but over the years, she’s had many rich boyfriends, yet none of them wanted to marry her.

Having her sore spot hit, Lin Anrou felt both ashamed and angry but still said, ”I don’t have money to give to the family! My salary every month isn’t even enough for me to buy cosmetics, let alone give money to the family! Go ask An Jing for it! She surely has money!”

”If I could ask her, would I be asking you? Both your mom and I went to the textile factory, and they said that useless girl already quit and disappeared—no idea where she went. So where am I supposed to find her for money?”

Before Lin Anrou could speak, Lin Jiecheng insisted, ”I don’t care—you have to take out 2,500 coins from your salary every month for the family! Both daughters, that useless girl started giving money to the family at thirteen, but you’re already twenty-two, and you haven’t given a single coin yet. You even occasionally ask us for money—this time, you mustn’t be let off!”

Lin Anrou was livid, ”My salary is only around 3,000 coins. If you take 2,500, what am I supposed to eat, drink, use, and buy cosmetics to dress up?!”

”That useless girl used to earn around 5,000 coins a month and gave 4,500 to the family every month—she still managed just fine!” Lin Jiecheng didn’t budge, the two tightly opposed. ”If you hadn’t pushed her down the stairs, making her hate me, would she have cut off contact with me? Asking you for 2,500 coins already feels unfair to me and your mom. We used to get 4,500 a month, but now we’re down to 2,500—how tight is this for us!”

Seeing Lin Jiecheng was adamant about her giving 2,500 coins a month, Lin Anrou stopped speaking to him, instead pleading with Wu Meifeng, ”Mom, talk to Dad for me—if I have to give you 2,500 coins every month, how am I supposed to buy cosmetics? Without cosmetics to make myself look beautiful, how am I supposed to snag a rich guy and let you and Dad enjoy the good life?”

Wu Meifeng always hoped her daughter would marry a rich man and fantasized about enjoying the good life alongside, so she had been doting on Lin Anrou excessively.

After hearing Lin Anrou’s plea, Wu Meifeng felt she was right and wanted to intercede for her, but before she spoke, Lin Jiecheng interrupted, ”Meifeng, if you don’t want the both of us, at our age, to have to work to feed ourselves, just shut your mouth!”

Wu Meifeng had been a housewife for many years and since An Jing started working, she simply sat at home directing An Jing, never truly experiencing hard days, so how could she still go out and work? Upon hearing Lin Jiecheng’s words, she really kept silent.
