Peaceful Farm Life

Chapter 1915: Chapter 1916: Heart Knot Untied

As she spoke, Feng Feiyan even began to plead, ”Father, Mother, I beg you not to send me back to the Imperial City. I am the eldest daughter-in-law; staying by your side to serve and take care of you is what I should do, and I will do my best to fulfill my duties.”

”Child,” An Jing said with great reluctance as she held Feng Feiyan’s hand, ”don’t be like this. Your father and I are not insisting you return to the Imperial City, we just think it’s too much hardship for you, not even having a maidservant to look after you.”

Feng Feiyan immediately shook her head and said, ”I’m not suffering, nor do I need someone to serve me.”

”But you’ve lost weight...”

”I have lost weight, but I’m also stronger.”

An Jing was taken aback. It seemed true. Previously, Feng Feiyan looked so delicate, like she could be blown away by the wind. Now, although she was thinner, she was sturdier and much healthier.

”Mother, please don’t make me go back to the Imperial City, okay?” Feng Feiyan pleaded again. ”Just let me stay here and serve you. If there’s anything I’m not doing well, you can tell me, just don’t make me return to the Imperial City.”

”There’s nothing you’re not doing well.” Afraid Feng Feiyan might overthink, An Jing quickly reassured her. With a helpless sigh, she added, ”Alright, if you truly don’t want to go back to the Imperial City, then stay here.”

Feng Feiyan immediately thanked her joyfully, ”Thank you, Mother!”

”You child...” An Jing sighed helplessly again, ”You bear too much.”

Feng Feiyan shook her head at once, ”Not at all, Mother, please don’t say such things in the future. I don’t feel aggrieved at all. Being filial to one’s parents is a matter of course. If you asked me to return to the Imperial City, it would feel like you were distancing yourself from me. I’d truly be aggrieved then, as I’m already married into the family and part of it.”

Seeing how sincere Feng Feiyan was, An Jing was extremely gratified and patted her hand.

Her eldest son had previously mentioned that Feng Feiyan was very filial. Now, An Jing was completely convinced; Feng Feiyan was truly filial.

...

Three months later, Feng Feiyan was no longer clumsy; she could handle both the inside and outside chores beautifully.

Of course, Su Yi Jing didn’t just stand by idly. He would do housework with Feng Feiyan, cut firewood in the mountains with her, and so on.

As for Xiao Changyi and An Jing, since Feng Feiyan learned to handle everything inside and outside, she wouldn’t allow Xiao Changyi and An Jing to lift a finger, insisting that they enjoy their leisure, while she and Su Yi Jing took care of all the chores.

However, sometimes Xiao Changyi and An Jing couldn’t sit still and would water the flowers, plant some vegetables, or tend to some sheep.

Even though Feng Feiyan lived in the same courtyard as Xiao Changyi and An Jing, she had never argued with them, and was especially filial. Sometimes, if An Jing and Xiao Changyi casually mentioned wanting to eat something, Feng Feiyan would hear about it and work out a way to get it with Su Yi Jing.

Now, in Xiao Changyi and An Jing’s eyes, Feng Feiyan was truly a good daughter-in-law.

At present, even Su Yixing, An Yiqing, An Yiyun, An Yiqi, An Yilin, and An Yizhi all accepted Feng Feiyan as their elder sister-in-law and genuinely liked her.

It’s truly because Feng Feiyan treated their parents so well and really embodied the role of an elder sister-in-law, genuinely caring about them.

Everyone thought Feng Feiyan was wonderful, but Feng Feiyan didn’t think she was, because it had been three years since she married Su Yi Jing, nearly five years living as husband and wife, and she still hadn’t conceived a child.

Seeing Feng Feiyan once again secretly worrying because she hadn’t yet conceived, Su Yi Jing said, ”Didn’t your period not come this month? Maybe you’re already pregnant.”
