Chapter 1902: Chapter 1903: What’s Done Is Done, Anger Isn’t Much Use

The Empress Dowager truly treats Su Yi Jing like her own son now, because without him, her husband’s health wouldn’t have improved. If her husband’s health hadn’t improved, how could she possibly be pregnant again?

When Su Yi Jing and Feng Feiyan asked the Empress Dowager for help, even though she felt it was inappropriate, she still agreed to assist them.

Consequently, on the third day after the Empress Dowager was confirmed pregnant, Feng Feiyan issued a decree: ”Zou Qian, Liang Zhiyao, and Sheng Qingfeng’s talents are unmatched by others in Wufeng. I have decided not to keep these three restricted within the palace. Zou Qian is appointed as Vice Minister, while Liang Zhiyao and Sheng Qingfeng will be Generals, each using their skills to contribute more to the kingdom of Wufeng.”

She also drafted an imperial decree to abolish the Empress and Noble Consorts.

From then on, there was no longer Empress Zou, Noble Consort Liang, or Noble Consort Sheng in the harem, only Vice Minister Zou, General Liang, and General Sheng.

This action by Feng Feiyan caused a great uproar. When the Retired Emperor Feng Tianji learned about it, he was immediately furious and summoned Feng Feiyan to meet him.

Su Yi Jing didn’t want Feng Feiyan to face Feng Tianji’s anger alone, so he accompanied her to the Longevity Palace.

Feng Tianji scolded Feng Feiyan harshly, accusing her of disregarding the bigger picture.

Feng Feiyan said, ”This has indeed caused a great uproar, but Father, the Zou, Liang, and Sheng families have already accepted it. This commotion is only temporary; in a few days, it will subside.”

”Why must you abolish them?” Feng Tianji was still extremely angry. ”Even if you favor Yi Jing, you don’t have to abolish them! You could do like I did, favor your mother, but keep the concubines in the harem. Just don’t visit them.”

Feng Feiyan wanted to say that even if Su Yi Jing, now a farmer’s son, married her, she still hoped her harem contained only him.

Su Yi Jing also wished for the same, hoping that whether in name, reality, or even falsely, they would only have each other.

However, if she said this, it would surely anger her father even more, so she remained silent and looked to her mother.

The Empress Dowager immediately understood and quickly soothed, ”Retired Emperor, what’s done is done. It’s pointless to remain angry; just accept it. Besides, doesn’t Xiyun’s harem also have just one Empress? You can emulate Xiyun. When Xiyun female royalty can be titled king, and Feiyan must be the Emperor, why can’t Feiyan be like Xiyun, having only one in the harem? Feiyan has already told me, she’ll find an auspicious day to make Yi Jing the Empress. Don’t be angry; if you keep this up, I can’t maintain this pregnancy well. You don’t want anything to happen to the child in my belly, do you?”

Hearing the Empress Dowager speak for Feng Feiyan and Su Yi Jing, even threatening him with the child in her belly, Feng Tianji was both angry and amused. He laughed and scolded, ”A mother’s kindness spoils her child, do you understand that?”

The Empress Dowager corrected him, ”Feiyan is not a son, she’s a daughter.”

Hearing this, any anger Feng Tianji had dissipated. He sighed helplessly at first, then said, ”Fine, I won’t be angry. The Empire is already yours to govern; do whatever you wish.”

Feng Feiyan immediately thanked him with joy, ”Thank you, Father.”

...

Feng Tianji has a full-blood brother, Feng Feiyan’s uncle, named Feng Tianlan.

Previously, Feng Tianlan wanted to become Emperor and sent people to assassinate Feng Feiyan. Later, when Feng Tianji wanted to deal with Feng Tianlan, he escaped. Now, upon hearing that Feng Feiyan has abolished one Empress and two Noble Consorts, Feng Tianlan takes advantage of the commotion to rebel.
