Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 480: Chapter 337: Miserable Treasure Chest Monster_2

Perhaps, as he reached inside to explore, it would be the moment the mimic would devour and attack him!

”Plant Heart, help me probe inside,” Xu Xin said softly.

The vines can regenerate, so even if they are attacked and severed, it doesn’t matter.

Now he was positioned right beneath the canopy of the treehouse, as only this spot was free of snow. When he spoke here, the Plant Heart planted beneath the treehouse could hear him.

As soon as he finished speaking, a few vines around the treasure chest started to move.

They instantly plunged into the wide-open chest, starting to wildly stir the gold and silver jewels inside!

Immediately, countless jewels flew out, and one even flew right in front of Xu Xin, who reached out and grabbed it.

Looking at the silver bracelet in his hand, Xu Xin first had a slight sparkle in his eyes, then showed a disappointed expression.

It was indeed a real object and not an illusion, but...

[Silver Bracelet (White): A finely crafted decorative silver bracelet. Don’t think about smelting it into a silver ingot, it’s not possible, give it up.]

What a pity.

It cannot be smelted into a silver ingot.

Come to think of it, the lowest iron block level is green, and even black-gold is blue at the minimum. For this white-class bracelet, smelting it into higher-grade silver blocks is definitely impossible.

These jewels, they really are just useless things.

The vines continued to stir the jewels, causing countless jewels to continuously fly out.

Suddenly, an extraordinary change occurred!

”Snap!”

The lid of the chest, without any warning, suddenly closed from its wide-open state with incredible speed!

Several vines that were previously stirring inside had no time to react and were directly snapped off inside!

Soon after, strange chewing and wriggling sounds came from within the chest.

The two women behind both let out a gasp of surprise. They did not expect the chest to close on its own.

”This, this...” Lou Fei’Er’s pupils shrank as she realized something, exclaiming, ”Is this chest alive?!”

”Huh?” Li Wenxi’s eyes widened, ”Chest? Alive?”

”That’s right.” Xu Xin squinted his eyes, looking at the chest in front of him, as the crushing and chewing-like sounds from inside made one’s skin crawl, ”This is a mimic, when you open it on the snowy mountain, there is no treasure inside at all, but a wide-open mouth!”

”It’s really alive?!” Lou Fei’Er, although having this suspicion, was still unsure, and upon hearing Xu Xin’s words, became utterly dumbfounded.

Li Wenxi also covered her mouth, her face filled with shock: ”In this world, creatures like this exist? A mimic?”

They were both stunned, much more so than Xu Xin was initially.

After all, every creature they had encountered in this world, only slightly mutated and stronger than those on Earth, had not been all that different, all within their understanding.

But the appearance of this mimic completely overturned their understanding.

At least pterosaurs had once existed as ancient creatures; this mimic is too absurd!

Xu Xin accepted it much more easily.

After all, he’s a man who has humorously conversed with living statues.

Even with living statues present, a living treasure chest wasn’t such a bizarre phenomenon.

The mimic still emitted chewing sounds as its body slightly writhed.

Clearly, the treasure chest now was no longer the completely hardened one before.

Xu Xin thrust his long spear forward, shouting simultaneously, ”Launch an attack! Attack this chest!”

Immediately, Silver King and Mimi lunged forward, several vines erupted from the ground aiming at the chest, and even Lou Fei’Er, who was originally behind, sprang up with a dagger in hand!

Focus the attack!

Meanwhile, the mimic sensed danger, and in the moment before Xu Xin’s spear pierced, the lid was lifted, presenting a half-open stance.

And the crimson gaping mouth appeared in everyone’s sight!

Surrounding the chest were rows of sharp teeth, still carrying remnants of the vines in them; countless mutated vines emerged from the pitch-dark throat!

”Slash!” Xu Xin’s long spear made a swift arc in the gaping mouth, severing numerous vines about to emerge, while a strong surge of life energy traveled through the spear shaft, making him shiver in delight.

Such potent life force!

He had never absorbed such immense life energy before; not even a mid-tier mutated creature had given him this much!

This chest, could it be...

The mimic let out a shrill screech after Xu Xin severed the vines in its mouth, and before it could react, other attacks followed closely!

To begin with, Mimi, moving with incredible speed, pounced as Xu Xin’s spear swung, claws instantly striking, scratching three marks on the now softened chest lid, then pressed it down with a smack.

Next, the entire chest body lifted into the air!

Right, lifted into the air!

Hoisted directly by vines erupting from the ground!

The Plant Heart didn’t attack from the bottom before, as it sensed the danger emanating from within the chest; attacking wouldn’t help. But now, realizing the entire chest was the danger source, it immediately launched a fierce stab assault!

Though the mimic’s body was somewhat soft, the underside remained incredibly hard, so the erupting vines didn’t pierce it but propelled it into the air instead.
