Starting Off Survival With A Small Treehouse

Chapter 457: Chapter 325 Familiar Decayed Wooden Door and Strange Egg

The bitter cold continuously emanated from the narrow cave.

To venture into this cave, with his current equipment, he would probably be unable to explore comfortably.

Just the chill wafting from inside was enough to make Xu Xin shiver at the entrance. The temperature inside must be below minus fifty degrees, and possibly far below that.

He glanced at the time; it had only been over half an hour since he began climbing. He still had plenty of time before the twelve-hour deadline given for the task.

And he had already climbed over three hundred meters.

No surprise, as this twelve-hour limit was meant for ordinary survivors. Today, he had arm strength enhancement, so his climbing speed was far faster than that of ordinary survivors.

With ample time, he could pause his climb to rest and explore along the way.

”Crack...” Another faint sound echoed.

This time, because he was at the entrance, and the sound came from inside the cave, Xu Xin heard it clearly.

It sounded a bit like something cracking.

For instance, the sound of rock splitting or ice shattering.

Xu Xin looked toward the corner at the end of the cave, deciding to go in and have a look.

He didn’t take out the energy core fragment right away; he slowly walked inside instead.

If there was any danger inside, the glow from the energy core fragment could very well alarm it.

In this frigid altitude, he couldn’t afford even a hint of carelessness; he had to venture quietly into the cave by himself.

He stepped carefully, softly, reaching the corner of the cave.

Though it had only been a short while since they parted, Xu Xin was already beginning to miss Keke.

If it were Keke, he would have already informed him if there was danger in the cave.

If there was no danger, the little fellow Keke might have already leaped from his shoulder and rushed inside ahead of him.

Of course, Keke wouldn’t be able to handle such low temperatures at all.

He drew a soft breath, the icy chill penetrating directly into his lungs and heart.

Around him, the temperature had fallen below minus fifty degrees; he could already feel the noticeable chill, akin to wearing short sleeves and stepping out into the dead of winter.

However, because his constitution was no longer ordinary, if this cold didn’t last too long, he could still endure it.

He took out a blue-grade iron sword from his backpack, yes, the very sword made for cave exploration during the previous dungeon foray.

This cave was also quite narrow, though it was much wider than the maze cave back then, where he had to squeeze through sideways; this time, he could at least walk normally.

Turning the corner revealed a straight and narrow corridor.

This corridor, less than one meter wide, differed from the cave outside the corner; the rock walls were far more orderly, resembling a man-made corridor.

A thin layer of frost covered the stone walls of the corridor.

A peculiar feeling arose within Xu Xin’s mind; he couldn’t shake the feeling of odd familiarity.

”Crack...”

The faint sound came from the end of the corridor; he quickened his pace, maintaining silence as he moved forward.

Soon enough, he arrived at the end of the corridor.

”What is this...?”

The piercing cold couldn’t mask his surprise.

At the end of the corridor was a door!

A somewhat decayed wooden door!

The door as a whole was quite corroded, even skewed, with a surface highly dilapidated and cracked, covered in a thin layer of frost.

The door looked like it could collapse with just a gentle push.

This wooden door, it looked so familiar!

The material, the level of decay, even the familiar design of the doorknob...

This was none other than the decayed wooden doors found in the rooms of the Chang Yin Family’s dungeon!

Why would there be such a door here?!

Moreover...

He turned to look back.

The familiar feeling from traversing the corridor began to ferment, memories rising in his mind.

It’s the dungeon corridor’s stone wall!

The stone wall of this straight corridor and that of the dungeon were identical, exactly the same material!

However, even the narrowest parts of the dungeon corridors were far wider than this one, plus those decayed doors lined both sides of the corridors there, while here, there was only one at the corridor’s end, hence why he hadn’t recognized it immediately.

A dungeon...? Within the giant peak, high above, there’s a dungeon?

”Crack...”

Another sound emerged from the nearly completely decayed door, from inside the room.

The source of the sound was right inside.

Too strange!

Xu Xin could sense that, due to the low temperature, the air here was exceedingly dry, and hence, the humidity was incredibly low.

Taking a deep breath would not only be chilling but also leave his mouth dry.

This door, if it remained in such a low-temperature, dry environment for long, couldn’t possibly decay like this!

Initially, the dungeon’s wooden doors decayed because the environment was so damp that droplets formed from the rock walls above to drip down; hence the rot progressed like that.

This door, it shouldn’t be like this...

Examining the frost on the wooden door, it felt as if... it had suddenly become very cold after originally being in a warm, moist environment, with moisture freezing directly on the door, making it seem like the door was sealed in ice.
