Surviving The Fourth Calamity

Chapter 1688: Chapter 265: There Really Is a Reason the Road Eunuch Took a Liking to You

’Snow Cloud Peak’ looked at him with a puzzled expression: ”Uh?”

Lind pursed his lips, finally letting out a laugh: ”As for Lady Rose, she went straight to the source, though she might not have appreciated the importance.

It was the woman masquerading as a Shadow Guard, whose true identity was a Shadow Assassin, that was the person most closely related to this matter.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ tilted his head: ”The housekeeper? I remember she was just pretending, didn’t actually take action against that woman... What was her name? I rarely hear you call her by her name.”

”Other than my mother, only Ellie occasionally calls her by name. Her whole life has been an effort to diminish her own presence... it’s not the kind of existence you’d normally expect.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ understood immediately: ”She hopes everyone thinks she’s just an ordinary housemaid manager... ideally, her image as a Professional would be faded to non-existence?”

Lind nodded: ”When Ellie was little, she was always with her and the butler. No matter how close she appeared to them, it seemed normal; it even deepened her impression as a nanny, so calling her occasionally wasn’t an issue.

Oh, her name’s Paris.”

”Rose...” ’Snow Cloud Peak’ truly found it unbelievable, ”That’s an Evil Goddess rolling around in the gutter, having observed for so long, might have even impersonated Paris and entered her room, perhaps even... utilized a Silk Spider to directly control her.

If that thing is really in Paris’s hands... how could Rose possibly be completely oblivious?”

”Paris is loyally devoted to my mother.” Lind brushed his hair back with a somewhat confused expression, ”Even her own children and Ellie, whom she personally raised, pale in comparison to my mother’s interests.

I always found her behavior odd... How could one possibly prioritize another person, who isn’t bound by blood or an unbreakable contract, over one’s own interests, even life?

Though after leaving Basia City, I also wanted to have such a subordinate... but before my mind became muddled, I felt I couldn’t ever achieve it.

Or rather, I believed the element that could cause Paris to betray had simply yet to be found.

Anyway, it’s not due to Ted, whom she married because they were equally matched in status, nor the two children she had with Ted.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’ couldn’t help but look at him with a peculiar gaze: Ah! What a classic antagonist-in-the-making, with every starting point centered around finding others’ weaknesses.

Yet he was too lazy to help ’Lu Huayu’ adjust this villainous boy’s mindset... Moreover, truth be told, his method of conditioning was merely suppression, while Chief Steward Lu could genuinely guide such fellows onto a less malevolent path.

Perhaps it’s Road Eunuch’s way that truly resonates with these people?

He laughed, calling back Lind, whose soul had clearly wandered off beyond the clouds: ”So, why are you sure, even if the Stelter Family actually had such a thing, Paris, whom Rose impersonated, could still keep it safe?”

”Ah...” Lind sheepishly scratched his head, ”Sorry, I was lost in thought.

I just mentioned that Paris is loyally devoted to my mother, so my mother knows many secrets... even things that I and even Ditte don’t know about, she is well aware of.

However, as you know, she’s only at level 10; in front of ordinary people she’s an absolute powerhouse, but against those seeking to harm the entire Stelter Family, she’s just a weakling.

She’s not like Butler Ted.

Ted, too, possesses the Stelter Family’s blood lineage.

The noble family’s bloodline protection array at the castle, although not as strong as the Royal Family’s, might still see issues, but... well, it somewhat works.

Who knows when things might not go well and get exposed?

But women who marry in are different.

So, you see, every time something happens to our family, no matter what the incident is, it almost always targets the lady of the house.

This is why many ladies of the house have their own personal power, something the gentlemen know of but don’t interfere with... there’s no way to merge them into the protection array, so they just keep quiet.

Paris is even more troublesome... Though prepared initially as a housekeeper for my mother, nurtured into the easiest-to-escape and shield-bearing Shadow Assassin, her situation is still fraught with peril.

Yet such risks mostly don’t threaten her life... rather, being controlled, being fed some new type of Hypnotic Potion that she’s defenseless against occurs more often.

Hence, she found the simplest solution.”

Lind exhibited a peculiar smile: ”She hypnotized herself.

Unless my mother brings her to that secret chamber in the lady’s room, Paris automatically locks those secrets in her Mental Sea.

That Lady Rose, despite observing her for a while, obviously couldn’t see Paris’s dramatic shift in her then identity.

Don’t be fooled by Paris’s usual competent demeanor; that’s just a housekeeper’s business.

The Stelter Family, however capable it may be, ha! Employing a Professional of at least level 10 as a housekeeper~ is slightly extravagant.”

’Snow Cloud Peak’s eyes blinked for quite a while before saying with a fleeting sense of realization: ”Remembering and forgetting like this every day could increase the risk of dementia in old age, right?”

”What are you talking about?” Lind didn’t understand, ”Are you talking about a disease related to the Mental Sea?

”There is the Silvermoon Temple’s Holy Water!”

”Even those without money can rely on devout faith to seek the Silvermoon Goddess’s favor.”

”So, although the priests and bishops of the Silvermoon Temple have rather indescribable personalities, the Silvermoon Goddess is forever the last pure land in the hearts of the Aesces people.”

”At least her attitude towards anyone is the same.”

”She simply doesn’t accept requests that offer nothing in return... But this little sacrifice, compared to one’s life, is hardly worth mentioning.”

”People who don’t even want to offer this, thinking they can get a return just by asking a couple of questions, probably end up in hell, right?”

He suddenly let out a cold laugh.

”’Snow Cloud Peak’ probably reminded him of Ellie, who wanted to rely on luck to make a small gain.”

”Actually, after such a long time of understanding, sensible people can mostly comprehend what that girl is thinking:”

”She knows very well that this deity she is dealing with, is evil and terrifying, likely originating from the Bottomless Abyss or the nine layers of hell.”

”But with her consistently strong fortune and her recognition of Hill’s power, she chose to take this risk.”

”Yes, the reason she dared to take risks should be from some place... such as those Undead Tribe’s mouths... confirming Hill’s godlike combat strength and his untouchable background.”

”That’s why she dared to make a contract with her soul as the wager.”

”If the Evil God can help her win Hill’s love, then how could such a powerful Hill allow his beloved’s soul to be captured by demons or devils?”

”Although this will surely make Hill’s battle very difficult, even at the cost of half his life... but in the eyes of this passionately loving, foolish woman, being able to brave life and death for their love just proves her exceptional vision, their love is monumental and moving!”

”If the Evil God can’t fulfill it, then her worst outcome would be her soul returning to the Styx.”

”And she hardly thinks that, with her luck, her result would be the worst.”

”Fortunately, Hill never sees anything worth cherishing about crazy love, Ellie’s wager was wrong from the start.”

”Moreover, those romance novels where men only realize the loss and regretfully try to win back the love after the beloved leaves or gives up, exist only in the dreams of silly women.”

”Not loving is not loving, and even trivial people like ’Mobi Chenxin’ won’t be moved, rather, they’ll bravely act... and abandon the house, directly running away.”

”Let alone Hill, who is steadfast and intelligent.”

”’Snow Cloud Peak’ always thinks that those novels and TV dramas where ’only repenting after losing, but it’s too late’ men are like they were drugged by those women before they left.”

He shook his head, smiling as he asked Lind, ”So, do you think that thing is with Paris?”

”In my mother’s secret chamber,” Lind replied, ”Paris’ truly important things are never placed elsewhere.

”Especially when she would choose to seal things in the Mental Sea, certainly it must be there.”

”’Snow Cloud Peak’ fixed his gaze on him: ’So, have you seen any special weapons?’”

”Paris likes collecting daggers, I remember when I was young... before the age of 6, my mother would occasionally take me into that secret room... I saw several dozen daggers displayed in a splendid crystal cabinet.”

”Although my memories aren’t very clear, there’s one I could never forget, with a handle engraved with a beautifully naked woman, her golden hair extending into the blade.

”It was twisted, like snake-like hair.”

Lind turned slightly, speaking somewhat desolately, ”Later, I also felt something was off, after all, at my age, I shouldn’t be so young yet allure to such beauty.

”Even felt a deeply compelling urge.”

”Unfortunately, I was too young, couldn’t control that impulse, directly showed a desire.”

”Paris was somewhat troubled, but my mother decisively refused, thoughtfully said ’Lind, you seem to sense something, tomorrow we should take him to the Silvermoon Temple’, ’Ah, no, better go to the Sun God Temple too’... Ha, Silvermoon Holy Water is cold, Sun Holy Water is scorching, so hot it burns the tongue, was my first impression of holy water.”

”Never changed since.”

”Then, I was never brought into that room again.”

”’Snow Cloud Peak’ blinked, nodding slightly: ’Ah, so, you simply spent quite a bit of time, investigating the ins and outs of this matter.

”Moreover, your mom had no sense of it at all.

”Hmm... indeed, Road Eunuch fancying you has its reasons.’”
