Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 683: 547 has an ambush

In the evening, Yang Zhenshan and Yu Qingyi were chatting leisurely in the main house of the residence.

”Southern Border Town seems pretty good, much better than Chongshan Town!” Yu Qingyi said.

”Yes, although Southern Border Town is mountainous, it enjoys spring all year round and has beautiful scenery, which is indeed much better than Chongshan Town!” Yang Zhenshan replied with a smile.

The geographical environment of Southern Border Town is actually quite good, with mountains, water, and many fertile fields, and it is possible to grow rice twice a year.

”I was worried that Wanqing might not be able to withstand the environment of Southern Border Town, but now it seems my concerns were unnecessary!” said Yu Qingyi.

Yang Zhenshan shook his head slightly, ”Southern Border Town can’t compare to the Capital City, Wanqing has gotten used to the hustle and bustle of the Capital City, and I estimate it will be hard for her to adapt to the quietness of Southern Border Town.”

In the Capital City, Yang Wanqing has many family members to accompany her and lots of friends; however, everything in Southern Border Town is so unfamiliar, and she needs time to familiarize herself with the environment.

While Yang Zhenshan and Yu Qingyi were talking, on a deserted hillside outside Guard City, several figures in plain clothes were looking towards the direction of Guard City.

”My lord, we have confirmed that the wedding party that has ties with the Qu family has entered the city this afternoon.”

Among the men, a tall figure is clearly the leader, his face marked with black patterns that look like some kind of script or maybe talismans.

Under the dim moonlight, his face appeared extremely terrifying.

”Daring to form ties with the Qu family, this time they will certainly go without return!”

”Keep a close eye on them, and the moment they leave the city, get ready to ambush!”

The man with ghostly facial marks spoke in a hoarse voice.

An underling nearby then reminded, ”Sir, General Ai Benhou will definitely escort them personally, we may not have enough manpower!”

The man sneered, ”Then let Ruan Hongjin come!”

”Fearing he might not agree to act!”

”If he dares to disobey, then kill him!” the man said chillingly.

”Yes!”

The voices gradually faded away as the figures disappeared into the forest.

...

Yang Zhenshan rested for a day in Guard City of Southern Border, and on the third day, Ai Benhou led two hundred soldiers to personally escort the Yang family members towards Nanhua City.

Traveling from Guard City to Nanhua City, they had to pass through Mist Ridge Mountain, which is famed for its feature of different weathers every ten miles.

Standing on the summit, looking north toward the undulating mountains, which are vast and filled with dense forests, lush and luxuriant, whenever clouds and fog rise, the peaks appear ethereal, as if in a fairyland, a view of flowers through fog. Observing the sunrise in the morning, the sun bursts forth, the glow spreads ten thousand ways, and when the fog disperses, the air is as clear as jade, and peaks lushly green, as if the air has been filtered, refreshing.

Even just passing through Yunwu Mountain, Yang Zhenshan still feels refreshed by the scenery, as if his soul has been cleansed.

”This mountain is truly enchanting!”

Ascending a mountain ridge along the official road, Yang Zhenshan couldn’t help but exclaim.

”If the Marquis is interested in this place, after completing the wedding we could tour here!” Ai Benhou riding a horse beside Yang Zhenshan, suggested with a smile.

”Haha, that was exactly my intent!” Yang Zhenshan laughed.

”Then when the time comes, I will accompany the Marquis to tour Yunwu Mountain!” Ai Benhou said.

Yang Zhenshan shook his head slightly, ”No need, I am a man of leisure, with plenty of time to travel around, General Ai has many military duties, no need to accompany an old man like me!”

He planned to enjoy a good time with Yu Qingyi, it had been over a decade since they wed, and they had never traveled together; with such a rare opportunity at hand, he naturally wanted to enjoy some time alone with Yu Qingyi.

Although they were an old couple, who said that old couples didn’t need to enjoy their own world.

Ai Benhou did not insist, since Yang Zhenshan said so, he could only comply with Yang Zhenshan’s wishes.

The convoy descended the hillside, and then turned left and right in the mountains. Although there is only a hundred miles straight distance from Guard City of Southern Border to Nanhua City, the winding paths through the mountains stretched nearly three hundred miles.

This was different from Chongshan Town; although Chongshan Town also had a thousand miles of heavy mountains, the terrain of Chongshan Town was relatively flat, only the mountains on the West Road were a bit more rugged.

The official roads of Southern Border Town often have cliffs on one side and precipices on the other, and at narrow spots, only one person and one horse can pass; but the Yang family was also carrying over a dozen carts of dowry, so it was not easy to pass through these official roads.

For this, Yang Zhenshan had to personally move the carts back and forth on the treacherous paths.

If there were no one around, he could have put the carts into the Spiritual Spring Space, making it easy to carry them across, but under everyone’s eyes, he could only have everyone manually move the carts.

Two Postnatal Martial Artists carrying a few hundred pounds of cart was not a problem; in a crunch, they would unload the stuff from the cart and carry it across separately.

Luckily, this narrow path was not long, only about a hundred yards.

After the convoy had passed, Yang Zhenshan looked back at the narrow path beneath the cliff and asked, ”Do you also use this path for transporting materials on regular days?”

Ai Benhou reluctantly nodded, ”Yes, but we usually let soldiers carry the load over. There is a fort on the other side, materials could be stored there first, and then transported slowly!”

Yang Zhenshan nodded slightly, the terrain of Southern Border Town was even more complex, quite different from Chongshan Town, this trip had certainly been an eye-opener for him.

After passing through the narrow path, the convoy continued to move forward, they rested for the night inside the fort, and set off again early the next morning. Today, they would leave Yunwu Mountain, once outside of Yunwu Mountain, the road was much flatter, and further ahead lay a boundless plain.
