I Married the President

Chapter 347: Chapter 347: The Boss Behind the Scenes

Claire Sinclair raised an eyebrow. ”Nancy, what are you doing here?”

Nancy rolled her eyes at her. ”What are you doing, going into a place like this?”

”I’m just going in to buy something.”

”Young Master Quincy wouldn’t want you going into a place like this. I’d advise against it.”

Claire Sinclair laughed. ”You don’t work at Quincy Manor anymore. Why do you still care what I do?”

”Don’t flatter yourself. I’m only following you in secret because I want to get my job back with Young Master Quincy. I just didn’t expect you to still not use your head.”

No one likes to be told they aren’t using their head. Claire Sinclair snapped, ”I think *you’re* the one who’s deluding herself. I don’t need your protection, so please stop following me.”

She paused, then turned to Landon Winston. ”And you too, Winston. Stop following me.”

Landon Winston was unmoved. ”Young Madam, forgive me, but I cannot comply.”

’These two had an almost incomprehensible loyalty to Adrian Quincy. Even if she tried to send them away, they wouldn’t listen to her.’

’Whatever. It’s not worth wasting my breath.’

”Fine, follow me if you want. I’m going in.” With that, Claire Sinclair walked straight into The Bitter Sea.

-

In the daytime, The Bitter Sea didn’t look much different from an ordinary flea market. The most obvious distinction was the crowd. The people milling about were all good-for-nothing thugs, their eyes lazy and their bodies radiating a roguish aura.

The moment Claire Sinclair stepped into The Bitter Sea, countless hostile eyes swept over her.

Soon enough, a sharp-eyed individual recognized her. He immediately gathered a few others and blocked her and the two people behind her.

”Aren’t you that reporter from the Astoria Daily, Claire Sinclair? What are you doing here?” the leader of the thugs asked, his voice and attitude dripping with contempt.

If she were alone, Claire would have certainly been nervous. But with Nancy Lockwood and Landon Winston there, she felt emboldened. Unfazed, she replied, ”What, is The Bitter Sea not open for business?”

”What are you looking to buy?”

”I’m looking for a 1982 Lafite.”

”1982 Lafite” wasn’t an actual wine, but the codename for a mysterious hacker. Everything they sold was top-shelf.

Claire Sinclair only knew about this mysterious hacker because she had stumbled upon them by chance using her own hacking skills. She had purchased most of the special components for her custom-modified computer and phone from ”1982 Lafite.”

However, the item she wanted to buy this time wasn’t available for shipping. ”1982 Lafite” had specified it was for in-person pickup only, which was why she had no choice but to make the trip herself.

When they heard her mention ”1982 Lafite,” all the thugs looked surprised.

What outsiders didn’t know was that ”1982 Lafite” was actually the secret boss of The Bitter Sea.

The only outsiders who dared to walk into The Bitter Sea and ask directly for ”1982 Lafite” were either undercover agents with a death wish or special clients personally invited by ”1982 Lafite” themselves.

Whether Claire Sinclair was an agent or a special client, the fact that she knew the codename meant the lookouts had to take her to see ”1982 Lafite” immediately.

Before that, however, the leader of the thugs felt it necessary to ask, ”And what about the two behind you?”

He was referring to Nancy Lockwood and Landon Winston.

Claire Sinclair answered bluntly, ”They’re my friends. They were worried about me, so they insisted on coming along. Don’t worry, they won’t cause any trouble.”

”See that they don’t. Follow me.” With that, the thug turned to lead the way.

After a walk of four or five minutes, the leader of the thugs led the trio into a high-end coffee shop that looked completely out of place among the surrounding junk shops.
