I Married the President

Chapter 319: Chapter 319: You Tricked Me Again

’I want to leave a good memory behind. That way, when I look back on this, I can savor it instead of just feeling regret.’

”Alright, I’ll stay here tonight.”

A faint smile touched Adrian Quincy’s lips, his heart already bursting with joy.

...

「That night.」

While Adrian Quincy was in a last-minute meeting, Claire Sinclair quickly went into his room. She packed up the things she planned to take, ready to leave the next morning.

As it turned out, after packing everything up, there wasn’t much she could take—just a few outfits.

’Come to think of it, that made sense. Besides sharing a marriage certificate, there was nothing else connecting them.’

’Once divorced, they would go their separate ways, owing each other nothing. That would be for the best.’

Claire Sinclair put the clothes into her suitcase and then placed the suitcase in the corner. Her mind was made up.

Not long after, Adrian Quincy finished his meeting and walked in, full of excitement and about to share some important news with her. But when he saw that she had already packed her things, his heart sank to rock bottom.

’Since she’s set on leaving, there’s no need to tell her about that matter anymore.’

’It seemed this ship of his could no longer keep her aboard.’

”Claire.” Despite everything, he maintained his graceful composure as he walked to her side, looking down at the girl lying on the bed, clearly wide awake.

”Mr. Quincy, I’ve finished packing. Would you like to check my things? This is Quincy Manor, after all. It would be troublesome if I accidentally took something confidential.”

”You have indeed taken something confidential.”

”What secret?” ’She didn’t remember taking anything else.’

Adrian Quincy slowly leaned down in front of her, lifted her small hand, and placed it over his heart. ”You’re taking this with you. What am I supposed to do then?”

He was talking about his heart.

Claire Sinclair’s breath caught, and a sharp, twisting pain seized her heart. Unable to meet his gaze, she said in a low voice, ”You’ll meet a woman who’s right for you.”

”Claire...”

”So, when are you free to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau with me to get a divorce?”

”According to national law, a first-rank official seeking a divorce requires a two-year separation period. A judge will only grant the divorce if the non-political spouse has a clean record for those two years.”

’You’ve got to be kidding me!’

’What’s the difference between this and retired military personnel being forbidden from going abroad for five years!’

”You tricked me again!”

”Claire, no one is above the law. You should understand that. Not even me.”

Claire Sinclair pouted, thoroughly frustrated. ”Fine, a two-year separation it is. Just please don’t bother me for these two years. I’m going to sleep!”

Adrian Quincy wanted to add that the separation period would only officially begin after they signed a separation agreement at the Civil Affairs Bureau, but seeing she had already closed her eyes, he ultimately decided against saying it.

’Let her find out on her own someday. Then she’ll have to come find me to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau.’

Adrian Quincy turned and walked into the bathroom.

Only when she heard the sound of running water did Claire Sinclair open her eyes.

’I thought I could get a smooth divorce, but it turns out I have to wait two years. I just hope these two years pass smoothly and happily.’

’I just don’t want to be with him anymore...’

Although that’s what she thought, she couldn’t escape her own feelings.

’In truth, she couldn’t bear to part from him. But she was just too tired, too insecure. She didn’t want to go on living with him in this state of mind.’

’If she wasn’t happy no matter how hard she tried, how could he be happy?’

Claire Sinclair thought about many things, and by the time Adrian came out of the shower, she still hadn’t fallen asleep.

Adrian Quincy climbed into bed and lay down beside her. This time, however, he didn’t pull her into his embrace, but simply closed his eyes and lay there peacefully.

Her body stiff, Claire Sinclair secretly glanced at him.

’Is he just going to sleep like that?’

”Mr. Quincy...”

”Mm.”

’So he’s not asleep.’

”Um...”

”Mm.”

”Never mind. Good night.” ’I should just go to sleep.’
