I Married the President

Chapter 301: Chapter 301: I Must Pry It Out of Him Today

The doctor took the signed form and left. Another round of surgery was about to begin.

The thought of her daughter’s leg being amputated made Mrs. Quincy feel as if a piece of her own flesh was being torn away; the pain was unbearable.

The more she thought about it, the sadder she grew. Her sadness turned to indignation, and her indignation to fury. Finally, she pulled out her phone to call the ”main culprit” and confront him—

”Adrian, you’ve ruined Yara!” Mrs. Quincy accused him through a flood of tears. ”You ungrateful son, you’ve ruined your own sister, do you understand? *Sob, sob, sob...*”

Adrian Quincy’s brow furrowed slightly. ”Mother, what are you talking about?”

”You ungrateful son... You’re making me so angry... I’m furious... My Yara... *Waaah*... Give me my Yara back!”

Adrian Quincy remained silent.

Mrs. Quincy cried and cursed for a long time before finally getting to the point. ”It’s all that Claire Sinclair’s fault. If it weren’t for that business with her miscarriage, Yara would never have tried to run away. She wouldn’t have gotten into a car crash, and she wouldn’t need an amputation... Adrian, I don’t care what you feel for that woman. With what’s happened to Yara, if you still insist on pressing charges against her, then I will disown you!”

CLICK...

The line went dead.

Adrian Quincy calmly put his phone away, saying nothing.

But Claire Sinclair still read something unusual in his microexpressions. ”Adrian, what’s wrong?”

”It’s nothing.” Adrian Quincy had no intention of telling her about it. ’At least, not yet.’

’There’s obviously something wrong!’

Driven by a sudden curiosity, Claire Sinclair decided to press him. ’No matter what, I’m going to get him to talk today!’

”Last time, when you were suddenly deployed to The Southern Frontier, I waited and waited for you to call, but you never did. I only found out where you were from your sister, and the price for that was a beating from her. Do you think that was fair?”

”Sorry,” Adrian Quincy apologized instinctively.

”I don’t need your apology. If you really care about me, then stop hiding things from me for my ’own good,’ especially things I have a right to know.”

Adrian Quincy still chose to remain silent.

Claire Sinclair rolled her eyes at him. ”Fine, suit yourself. If you won’t talk, then don’t.”

With that, she leaned her head against the car window, putting distance between them.

Adrian Quincy gazed at her averted, shimmering eyes, a struggle unfolding within him.

”Claire, do you like kids?”

”What kids?”

”Our kids.”

”Why are you asking that all of a sudden? I have no desire to have children with you.” ’She was only twenty-two, the prime time to build her career. It wasn’t the right age for childbearing, and she didn’t want kids anyway.’

’Besides, they were going to get divorced in the end anyway, which was all the more reason not to even consider having his child.’

A dull ache started in Adrian Quincy’s heart. He just couldn’t find the courage to tell her about the miscarriage right now, so he just said, ”If you don’t want to, I won’t force you.”

”I don’t want to talk to you anymore. I’m going to sleep. Don’t bother me!”

With that, Claire Sinclair closed her eyes, pointedly ignoring him.

Adrian Quincy took the hint and said no more. He waited until she had fallen asleep, then gently pulled her into his arms so she could rest more comfortably in the moving car.

...

This was the first time Claire Sinclair had ever been on Adrian Quincy’s private jet.

The plane, rumor had it, had quite a backstory. The same year her sister had died in the line of duty, Adrian Quincy had apparently performed some great military service, and then-President Arthur Lockwood had rewarded him with this jet, codenamed ”Divine Eagle 001.”

In other words, the plane was a ”trophy of war.”
