I Married the President

Chapter 316: Chapter 316: I’m Sorry, We’re Not Right for Each Other

Adrian Quincy said nothing. There was nothing he could say.

Her mind was still set on divorce, while he was desperately trying to figure out how to save their marriage.

If she remained insistent, there was nothing he could do.

’In the end, I’m still going to lose her...’

Adrian Quincy couldn’t bring himself to meet her gaze. He feigned indifference, looking away. ”Get some sleep. I just came to grab something. I’ll be on my way now. Good night.”

With that, he turned and left.

In truth, he hadn’t come back for anything. He had seen her post on Weibo about being threatened and, seeing that she hadn’t told him, choosing to bear it all alone, he thought she might need him.

But since she didn’t want him here, there was no point in staying. It would only make him look more pathetic.

As if sensing his dejection, Claire Sinclair instinctively followed him out and called, ”Mr. Quincy.”

Adrian Quincy turned in surprise, his eyes filled with anticipation.

Claire Sinclair paused for a moment before managing to think of something to say. ”How’s your sister? When are we officially pressing charges?”

”She was just transferred to a general ward before I came over. We can press charges whenever you’re ready.”

”Let’s do it tomorrow, then. What do you need from me?”

Claire Sinclair just wanted to get this over with as quickly as possible so she could be free.

Adrian Quincy suppressed the pain and reluctance in his heart, doing his best to remain a gentleman. ”If you don’t want to appear in court, you can leave it to the legal team.”

”Is appearing in court a big hassle?”

”Not at all.”

”But will a lot of people see me?”

”Yes.” Adrian Quincy nodded.

Claire Sinclair cupped her chin in thought before finally saying, ”In that case, I won’t appear in court. Having a miscarriage isn’t something to be proud of. I don’t want to be publicly humiliated.”

On that note...

Claire Sinclair couldn’t help but ask, ”Will word of this get out?”

Adrian Quincy said in a low voice, ”For cases involving the family of a martyr, we can request privacy protection. Your name will automatically be replaced with an alias, and my identity isn’t suitable for public disclosure either. So no, word won’t get out.”

”That’s a relief...” Claire Sinclair finally let out a sigh.

This way, even if people found out she was divorced, they wouldn’t know who she had been married to, let alone that she had suffered a miscarriage.

”Claire...” Adrian Quincy began suddenly.

Claire Sinclair looked up instinctively. Seeing the hurt in his eyes, she knew what he was about to say and cut him off coldly. ”If you’re trying to get me to change my mind, then just forget it. I’ve thought this through completely. I just don’t want to be with you anymore.”

Adrian Quincy gave a slight nod. He said nothing more, simply turning and heading downstairs.

Claire Sinclair watched his back disappear down the stairwell, her heart slowly sinking into a bottomless feeling of loss, sinking deeper and deeper.

’Adrian Quincy, I’m sorry. We’re just not right for each other.’

...

「The next day was bright and sunny.」

Claire Sinclair was late again. She had somehow slept through her alarm; it hadn’t woken her up at all.

When she arrived at the office, her colleagues were giving her strange looks. Several of them seemed like they wanted to say something but held back.

Sensing something was off, Claire Sinclair couldn’t help but ask, ”Why is everyone looking at me like that?”

One of them gave her a kind tip, ”You should go online and see for yourself.”

Phoebe Lockwood, however, said it outright. ”If you don’t want people to find out, you shouldn’t have done it in the first place. Claire Sinclair, I never thought you were that kind of person. Heh...”

’This woman, with her sanctimonious, holier-than-thou attitude again. She must have pulled some dirty trick.’

Claire Sinclair opened her laptop. Whenever something happened, her first instinct was to check Weibo; she could usually find something about herself there.
