I Married the President

Chapter 303: Chapter 303: Our Baby Is Gone

’Claire Sinclair, you useless thing...’

’Can’t someone just come and kill me!’

’Even if they don’t kill me, I’d rather be crippled, broken, or beaten senseless. Just don’t let me live in peace.’

’Really, I don’t want to live in peace...’

”SOB... SOB... What am I going to do? How am I supposed to face our baby? How am I supposed to face him?”

At that moment, Claire Sinclair was completely lost, overcome with a despair that left her unable to live, yet unable to die.

When Adrian Quincy returned from his call, he saw her curled up in a corner, her body wracked with sobs. Her tear-streaked face held a despair he had never witnessed before.

”Claire!” His heart twisted in agony. He rushed over and pulled her fiercely into his arms. ”It’s alright. We’re still young. We’ll have another child.”

”WAAAHHH...” She cried even harder, like a lost child unable to find her family.

Adrian’s heart bled for her. He held her even tighter, uttering words of comfort that even he found unconvincing. ”This isn’t your fault. It’s mine. It’s my fault for not protecting you and the baby. It’s all my fault...”

”WAAAHHH...” She kept her head down and wailed, wishing she could cry herself to death on the spot.

’It’s gone. My baby is gone...’

’And there will never be another...’

’I didn’t take proper care of myself at all during that time. My health fell apart. I’ll definitely never be able to get pregnant again, not when my body is in such awful condition.’

’I’m a wreck, a moron. I don’t deserve to be a mother.’

’I was so stupid that even Heaven couldn’t bear to watch, so it stripped me of my right to be a mother.’

’I have no right to be a mother at all...’

’I couldn’t even protect a tiny embryo. Am I even human?’

As if sensing her despair, Adrian quickly spoke up. ”Claire, don’t let your imagination run wild. Remember that full-body check-up I took you for at the hospital? The doctor said there were no major issues with your health. As long as your periods are regular, you can conceive again. We still have a chance to have another child.”

Hearing this, Claire finally showed a slight reaction, lifting her eyes, which were clouded with tears, to meet his gaze.

”Really?”

”It’s true. I swear on the name of Quincy Manor, I’m not lying to you this time.”

”But our baby is gone. I didn’t protect him... I’m too weak...” Overwhelmed with grief, she burst into tears again.

”It’s alright. Why don’t you think of a name for the baby first? We’ll buy him a burial plot and give him a proper funeral, so that his coming into our world wasn’t in vain. How does that sound?”

Claire nodded repeatedly, her voice choked with emotion. ”O-Okay... We can’t let our baby become a wandering spirit. We’ll give him a little house, and we can go visit him when we have time.”

”So, will you think of a name for him first?” Adrian prompted gently, hoping not only to pull her out of her self-recrimination but also to soothe the sorrow in her heart.

”I don’t know what name to give him. I can’t think of anything.” In her current state, she was simply unable to think about anything at all.

Adrian was silent for a moment before saying in a low voice, ”Why don’t we call him Ren? Like ’reborn.’ It reminds me of the line from a poem: ’Wildfires cannot burn it all; the spring wind blows, and life is born again.’ It symbolizes an undying soul, that in the future, he will come back to be our child.”

’Ren... Ren Quincy.’

It was a beautiful name with a wonderful meaning. Claire was very pleased with it and nodded. ”Then let’s call him Ren. Ren Quincy.”

”Alright, Ren it is.” As he spoke, Adrian slid his arms beneath her, slowly lifting her up. He took a couple of steps to the bed and gently set her down.
