I Married the President

Chapter 329: Chapter 329: Utterly in His Grip

Having spent so much time with Henry Hartwell, Claire Sinclair could tell right away that he was trying to brainwash her.

’I have to admit,’ she thought, ’Teacher Hartwell’s brainwashing skills are as masterful as ever...’

Claire Sinclair muttered under her breath, ”Teacher Hartwell, if you keep this up, I’m going to start taking you seriously.”

”Haha... You should take me seriously. That’s my stance. What’s yours?”

”I just want to be a quiet little reporter. I haven’t thought about much else.”

”What if Young Master Quincy gets taken out by his competitors? You wouldn’t care?”

”He’s so capable. How could he possibly be taken out so easily?”

Henry Hartwell said with a serious expression, ”Don’t be so casual about it. If you’re only thinking about putting food on the table, then Young Master Quincy was wrong about you, and I’ll be very disappointed in you too.”

Claire Sinclair was at a loss for words.

It was true that her work in journalism was about more than just making a living, but if she stayed out of this, it would amount to the same thing.

’Does someone as all-powerful as Adrian Quincy really need my help?’

Henry Hartwell pointed to the marital status on Adrian Quincy’s profile on the computer screen. ”Young Master Quincy’s publicly disclosed marital status is ’Unknown.’ I don’t have to tell you that he did that to protect you. But even if you divorce him now, you’re still his wife in name during these two years of separation. Claire Sinclair, you can no longer stay out of this.”

”I...” Claire Sinclair bit her lip, not knowing how to argue.

’He listed his marital status as ’Unknown’ because he agreed to the divorce. But at this critical juncture, if news of our divorce were to break, countless people would surely start investigating the reason for it.’

’At that point, every private detail of my life would be magnified until I had no secrets left.’

’Including my ex-boyfriend being a rapist, my father’s domestic abuse, and the news of my miscarriage...’

’And what about Adrian Quincy? His record is clean as a whistle. Not only is there no dirt on him, but his list of achievements is illustrious.’

’People would absolutely blame me for the divorce. Given my current mental state, I’d probably be torn to shreds by public opinion until I wanted to die, right?’

’In any case, even with a divorce, I can’t jump ship just yet.’

’He’s really got me cornered...’

”After I get off work tonight, I’ll go talk to him.”

”What about the crayfish you promised?”

”Next time.”

”...”

Henry Hartwell sighed. ’Getting a crayfish meal really isn’t easy.’

...

After work, Claire Sinclair couldn’t wait to leave the office.

But when she arrived at the entrance to Quincy Manor, she hesitated.

’I already asked him for a divorce. In what capacity should I be going in to see him now?’

Just as she was hesitating, a guard at the gate suddenly shouted, ”You there! Unauthorized personnel are not to loiter at the manor entrance!”

Claire Sinclair’s heart tightened. She looked up at the guard who had spoken—a new face she had never seen before.

’Well, it’s perfectly normal that he doesn’t recognize me.’

Claire Sinclair spoke timidly, ”I’m looking for Mr. Quincy.”

”Who are you?”

”I’m his wife.”

The guard shot her a harsh glare, clearly thinking she was delusional, and ignored her.

Claire Sinclair wondered, ’How could the new guard not recognize me?’

’Oh well, why make things difficult for him? Standing guard is tiring enough.’

”I’ll just wait for him over to the side, then...” Claire Sinclair turned and walked to a large tree a couple of properties down, planning to stand there and wait for him to come out.

Seeing that she had moved to a safe distance, the guard said no more.

Claire Sinclair didn’t know how long she waited. Her legs grew sore and weak, feeling like they were about to give out, when she suddenly remembered something.
