I Married the President

Chapter 315: Chapter 315: You Came Back Without a Word

First, she investigated every courier company that had delivered a threatening letter to her. She found that the sender always scheduled a pickup service, but would leave the package and money in a crowded public area, never making face-to-face contact with the courier.

She found all this by hacking into the courier companies’ chat groups. For every threatening letter a courier picked up, they could get a cash bonus of at least ten thousand, placed together with the package.

No wonder the courier companies were so willing to deliver anonymous packages to her. So that’s how it worked.

The police were ignoring her. Just waiting around was a dead end, so Claire Sinclair had to take matters into her own hands—

She hacked into the security systems of a few shopping malls and finally found the person sending the letters. She never would have guessed who it was: a high school dropout who was living at home...

An indescribable feeling washed over Claire Sinclair. She was silent for a long time before finally sending a message to the man, asking for help: Mr. Quincy, I need to borrow some of your people.

Adrian Quincy: How many?

Claire: The ones you sent to grab me for our wedding the first time.

Adrian Quincy: Alright.

Claire: I’ll need them tomorrow night at 7. Have them wait for me at Quincy Manor. I’ll go over after work.

Just as she sent the message, she heard footsteps outside the door.

Claire Sinclair’s heart clenched. ’Who could that be so late at night?’

’Could it be the person sending me the threatening letters?’

’Or is it an assassin sent by The Prankster Alliance to kill me...’

’This is terrifying! I have to hide!’

Claire Sinclair quickly snapped her laptop shut, scrambled into the closet, and carefully pulled the doors closed.

She pulled the gun Adrian Quincy had given her from her pocket. It had belonged to her sister, and ever since he’d given it to her, she’d kept it on her person at all times—even though she still didn’t know how to fire it...

Just then, the door opened.

Adrian Quincy scanned the spacious bedroom but saw no one. He checked the bathroom doorway, but he didn’t find her there either.

”Claire?” the man murmured.

The words had barely left his lips when the girl burst out of the closet and crashed into his arms, her hands wrapping tightly around his lean, strong waist.

”You didn’t even tell me you were back! I thought a burglar broke in!”

”I’m sorry,” Adrian Quincy murmured.

He felt a pang of guilt for accidentally scaring her.

Claire Sinclair pulled away from his embrace and looked up at him. ”Why are you back?”

A gentle look filled the man’s eyes. ”I saw your post online. I was worried, so I came back to check on you.”

His gaze caught on the gun in her hand, and his brows furrowed slightly. ”Claire, you don’t have to be so tense at home. If an intruder ever gets in, the security system will automatically trigger an alarm. You’ll get an alert on your phone and computer.”

”Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” All that anxiety for nothing!

For the past few nights, Claire Sinclair hadn’t dared to sleep soundly, waking up countless times. If he had just told her how amazing the new security system was, she wouldn’t have had to be so exhausted.

His heart ached for her, and he gently ruffled her hair. ”Claire, why don’t you move in with me?”

”No. I don’t want to live with you.”

”Claire...” Adrian’s heart stung.

Claire Sinclair let out a soft sigh, put the gun back in the drawer, and returned to her desk. She sat down and turned the computer back on.

Adrian Quincy came up behind her. ”If you run into any trouble you can’t handle,” he said in a low voice, ”tell me. Don’t try to shoulder it all on your own.”

Claire Sinclair looked up at him. ”We’re getting a divorce. I want to learn to be independent as soon as possible. I can’t keep running to you for every little thing.”

’I’ll be living on my own in the future. I have to learn to protect myself.’
