Chapter 16: Chapter 16 Silence is Golden (Please add to your favorites!)

”Today, this Taoist Master will properly read your fortune.”

”Your surname is Lu, as in the ’Lu’ written with the ’single ear’ radical on the left. Your ancestors were once wealthy landowners, notorious for their misdeeds. Fearing retribution, your forefather buried all his wealth in the countryside. By your grandfather’s generation, the family had become destitute. It was only by finding the ancestral Treasure Map and unearthing its contents that they began to prosper again.”

”If my calculations are correct, your grandfather’s destiny involved clinging to life unethically, possessing a heavy, ominous presence. He hogged the treasure for himself and murdered his own blood brothers. In your generation, the ghosts of your grandfather’s brothers must often come for you, right? Do you often dream of a middle-aged man? He is your grandfather’s brother, Lu Kui.”

Luo Yan: ”...”

Manager Yue: ”...”

”DING... The Host succeeded in being pretentious and obtained 3 Pretentiousness Points.”

Lu Shen, pointing at Chu Hao with his body trembling slightly, said, ”You... how did you know?”

Chu Hao was thrilled, with Pretentiousness Points flooding in. He didn’t care about anything else, his face inscrutable, hands clasped behind his back, emanating the aura of an otherworldly expert.

”As I’ve said, nothing can escape the Dharma Eye of this Taoist Master. This blood brother of your grandfather, Lu Kui, is quite formidable. Knowing his own limitations and that he couldn’t harm you, he could only target your children.”

Manager Yue looked at Lu Shen with a strange expression and said, ”Lu Shen, you have children?”

Lu Shen grew agitated. He was thoroughly infuriated and said, ”Don’t listen to his nonsense! I don’t have any children!”

Chu Hao sneered, ”Truly devoid of conscience. You’ve been with quite a few women over the years, haven’t you? Weren’t there three who got pregnant? And didn’t various accidents happen? The children were lost?”

Lu Shen was completely dumbfounded. Indeed, these things had happened. He had always dismissed them as accidents. But now, hearing Chu Hao, he realized all three children... were gone.

Manager Yue and Luo Yan looked at him with disdain. They realized that Lu Shen was indeed a liar; nine out of his ten sentences were false. They wouldn’t have known if Chu Hao hadn’t revealed it.

Especially Manager Yue; the thought that such a man had been pursuing her made her sick to her stomach.

Chu Hao sneered, ”Accusing me of talking nonsense? You’re destined to have no offspring in this life. Even if you have children, Lu Kui will do everything in his power to kill them.”

Lu Shen was horrified. He cried out agitatedly, ”You’re talking nonsense! You’re talking nonsense! I don’t believe it! I don’t believe it!”

Chu Hao said indifferently, ”You don’t believe it? Alright then... I’ll let you see Lu Kui’s true face.”

The three people in the office looked at Chu Hao in surprise.

In fact, Chu Hao had seen Lu Kui long ago because he wore the Ghost-Seeing Ring, which allowed him to see ghosts within ten meters.

Chu Hao purchased a Soulrend Talisman from the System store and shouted, ”Emergency Wish-Granting Command!”

The talisman paper ignited, leaving the three of them stupefied. Immediately after, the screams of two women were heard.

Luo Yan jumped up and clung tightly to Chu Hao. Her long, fair legs wrapped around his waist, and a delicate body scent wafted into his nostrils, stirring his heart.

Helpless, he had to brace his stance and hold her firmly by the waist and hips, or else they would have fallen.

Manager Yue was also terrified. She ran behind Chu Hao, her face pale. If Chu Hao weren’t holding Luo Yan, she would have wanted to be in his arms too; that seemed the safest place now.

Lu Shen’s neck was stiff as he slowly turned around.

”GOOD HEAVENS!” he exclaimed, his entire body collapsing to the ground, terrified beyond measure.

Outside the window, a middle-aged man floated. His neck was covered in fresh blood, as if it had been severed, his head lolling as he stared at Lu Shen.

Lu Shen screamed; this was the middle-aged man he often saw in his dreams. Chu Hao hadn’t been wrong at all.

”DING... The Host succeeded in being pretentious and obtained 3 Pretentiousness Points.”

Chu Hao said with a wry smile, ”Sister Luo Yan, could you get down first? You’re quite heavy.”

”No... don’t! I’m scared!” Luo Yan trembled.

Manager Yue was just as frightened.

”It’s okay. With this Taoist Master here, such a minor ghost can’t harm you.”

Luo Yan got down. She quickly hid behind Chu Hao, clutching his sleeve, utterly terrified.

At the same time, both women were extremely shocked. Was this really a Ghost? Compared to the shock of a Ghost’s existence, they were even more astonished that Chu Hao possessed the means to let them see a Ghost in broad daylight.

Chu Hao walked over calmly, opened the window, and said faintly, ”Come in.”

”You can see me?” The Ghost’s voice was hoarse. As it spoke, bloody bubbles frothed from its neck. Although the sight was frightening, it wasn’t quite enough to scare Chu Hao.

Chu Hao pointed at Lu Shen and said, ”Not only can I see you, but he can also see you. I made you visible to let him know that everything I said is true.”

Lu Kui floated into the office, staring relentlessly at Lu Shen, his expression gradually turning fierce.

Lu Shen was utterly terrified and screamed, ”Don’t come any closer! Help! Taoist Master, I beg you, make him leave! Make him leave!”

Chu Hao crossed his arms, shrugged, and said, ”Sorry, this Ghost has always been by your side. How am I supposed to make it leave?”

”I’ll give you money; just make him leave!” Lu Shen cried, hugging Chu Hao’s legs.

At the mention of money, Chu Hao’s eyes lit up. ”How much?”

”Ten thousand! I’ll give you 10,000 yuan!”

Chu Hao was excited. He said to Lu Kui, ”Alright, you can go now.”

Lu Kui’s Ghost, his voice hoarse, pleaded fiercely, ”Heavenly Master, I beg you, please grant me justice!” f|ree(w)ebn\o.vel.com

Chu Hao got irritated upon hearing this. Pointing at Lu Kui’s Ghost, he cursed, ”Justice? My ass! The three children you killed are reason enough for your soul to be scattered into oblivion! Get lost while I’m still in a good mood, or I’ll wipe you out!”

Lu Kui’s Ghost hurriedly drifted up, left the office, and vanished from sight.

”Is it... gone?” Luo Yan and Manager Yue, the two women, were so scared they clung to each other.

”Yeah, it’s gone.”

”DING... The Host succeeded in being pretentious and obtained 3 Pretentiousness Points.”

Lu Shen slumped to the ground. Chu Hao said indifferently, ”Pay up.”

Lu Shen immediately took out his wallet and handed over a card, saying, ”Taoist Master, name your price. How much to resolve this matter for me?”

With 10,000 in hand, Chu Hao felt quite thrilled. This trip had truly been a big win.

Looking at Lu Shen again, his actions were quite swift; he was probably genuinely terrified.

Chu Hao said, ”Alright! This much.”

Chu Hao held up five fingers.

Lu Shen said, ”Five hundred thousand? Alright... Taoist Master, you must help me.”

But seeing Chu Hao motionless, Lu Shen became anxious and said, ”Five hundred thousand is too much; I can’t come up with that much money right away. But... rest assured, I’ll go gather it immediately.”

Chu Hao was speechless. It wasn’t that he wouldn’t speak; he was simply stunned. Five hundred thousand! This... this bastard was truly rich! He’d estimated that 5,000 would be enough from Lu Shen. After all, he had just taken 10,000 from him and hadn’t really done anything but scare Lu Shen a bit. As a result, this fellow Lu Shen himself had bid up to five hundred thousand! You said it yourself; this Taoist Master didn’t say a thing. It seems that silence really is golden sometimes.

Lu Shen hurriedly went off to raise the money. He was genuinely scared, not even bothering to greet Manager Yue as he rushed out. He was incredibly fast.

The two women exchanged glances. Chu Hao was simply god-like; it overturned their worldview and left them profoundly shaken.
