“Ranran, why didn’t you answer Mo Xiuchen’s call yourself?”

Bai Xiaoxiao hung up the phone and handed back the phone to Wen Ran, her voice tinged with concern.

She obviously knew the reason but she felt sorry for Wen Ran and didn’t want her to suffer this way.

Wen Ran managed a weak smile, placing her phone on the coffee table. Mo Xiuchen’s call had come in when she had just arrived back at the apartment with Bai Xiaoxiao, with Qin Mu heading directly to the company.

At this moment, it was only her and Bai Xiaoxiao in the living room.

...
Wen Ran held her phone, a flash of struggle in her eyes, and said softly, “Xiaoxiao, I made a vow not to be with Mo Xiuchen. Before, he didn’t know who I was, didn’t know the relationship between me and him, I still held a bit of hope, maintaining contact with him as a stranger.”

“Ranran?”

Bai Xiaoxiao uttered her name with a tone full of heartache.

Wen Ran smiled to reassure her, “Don’t look at me like I’m so pitiful. Xiaoxiao, Mo Jingteng called me.”

“Mo Jingteng called you again? What did he want?” Bai Xiaoxiao was instantly angry, her voice tinged with fury.

“He said, he knows I’m not happy with Cheng Jia and Xiuchen together, now that Xiuchen has fired Cheng Jia, I can feel relieved. He also mentioned, he wants to find a well-matched woman to marry Xiuchen, to be the lady of the Mo family, the wife of the president of the MS Group. And advised me not to forget my vow and not to harm Xiuchen and all the people I care about.”

“That old man Mo Jingteng, on what ground does he say these things to you, Ranran, Mo Xiuchen will not listen to Mo Jingteng’s arrangements, you can be assured, and don’t ignore Mo Xiuchen because of his words.”

“It’s not because of his words, it’s because of the vow I made myself. Xiaoxiao, when I made the vow, I really felt that as long as Xiuchen was alive in this world, even if I could never see him again, it didn’t matter.”

Even now, every time she thought about that moment, her heart would ache sharply.

That was when she had just gotten rescued, even though Qin Mu had protected her back then, jumping off such a high cliff, she was bound to be injured.

When Mo Jingteng’s call came, she had just regained consciousness, her body still weak. However, Mo Jingteng and Cheng Jia informed her over the phone that Xiuchen had been discharged from the hospital, and what’s worse, had a tendency to get infections…

If she didn’t agree to their demands, they wouldn’t admit Xiuchen back into the hospital, making her regret forever.

Xiuchen was the man she loved the most, how could she possibly let them lead him to his demise.

So, she made a vow to never be with Xiuchen again, nor to bother him or reveal anything about the past. Not only that she can’t say, but those around her also wouldn’t.

She thought that should be enough, but Cheng Jia didn’t believe her, she didn’t want her to swear upon herself but demanded her to swear on the name of all her relatives and Mo Xiuchen.

If in the future she were to betray her promise…

At that time, she was not alone in the ward, Gu Kai and Wen Jin were there too. Her father, Gu Yan, was also there, watching over her. The phone was on speaker, so everyone heard what Cheng Jia said.

Wen Jin and Gu Kai simultaneously said, “Ranran, do not agree with her.”

Gu Yan didn’t finish, his eyes were full of guilt and self-condemnation. He blamed himself for letting Xiuchen get taken away by Mo Jingteng and he failed to protect the man his daughter deeply loved.

Wen Ran held back her tears, her lips tightly clamped together as she made a hard choice. As long as Xiuchen was alive, she would agree to anything.

When she made her vow, she didn’t really care about it and believed she would reveal the truth to Xiuchen once he recovered. She was not bothered to validate the vow.

“Ranran.” Bai Xiaoxiao didn’t know what to say as any comforting words felt weak. Wen Ran’s love for Mo Xiuchen was no less profound than Mo Xiuchen’s love for Wen Ran.

Mo Xiuchen had once exchanged his own health for hers, and now, she was paying the price of never being with him, just for him to live well.

In fact, being able to love someone so deeply, even if they can no longer be together every day and night, is better than those who spend their lifetimes together but fail to understand what love is.

“Ranran, do you really want Mo Xiuchen to be with another woman?”

Bai Xiaoxiao pursed her lips and asked softly.

Wren Ran gave a bitter smile, realizing the pain in her heart was not completely numb after all. It felt as if someone was cutting a slice out of her heart, “Xiaoxiao, I’m not a saint.”

She pressed her lips together tightly before adding, “Not only am I a coward, but I’m also very selfish. I’m afraid of validating the vow, afraid of harming my relatives. I don’t want Xiuchen to be with another woman, yet I know this is just wishful thinking. If Xiuchen hadn’t lost his memory, he might have been willing to reject everyone else for my sake.”

“Ranran, if Mo Xiuchen knows why you’re avoiding him, maybe he would be willing.”

As Bai Xiaoxiao’s words slipped out, Wen Ran paled and the bitterness on her lips intensified, “Whenever I think of this, I tell myself that I can’t be so selfish. I can’t let Xiuchen live a lonely life for my sake, so I can’t see him.”

“So, you would rather suffer yourself.” Bai Xiaoxiao felt suffocated, seeing Wen Ran in such pain, she genuinely wanted to tell Mon Xiuchen everything.

The love story between Mo Xiuchen and Wen Ran was known by everyone in G City.

However, why they divorced, the real story was only known to a few, outsiders had no idea. Therefore, even though Mo Xiuchen found some information from the media.

Being smart, he was naturally able to discern the truth from the lies.

He learned how much he used to love Wen Ran and although he couldn’t remember, he knew he loved her now.

“Ranran, if you have truly decided not to return to Mo Xiuchen, then you should try to let go of this relationship and start a new life. Only then will he stop contacting you and restart a life with another woman.”

Bai Xiaoxiao hesitated for a moment before saying it out seriously.

“Start a new life?”

Wen Ran blinked in confusion, heart heavy with pain, she became slow in her reactions.

She didn’t understand what Bai Xiaoxiao meant by a new life. Wasn’t living alone also a new life already?

Bai Xiaoxiao nodded, explaining softly, “Given Mo Xiuchen’s character, he won’t give up on you even if you ignore him unless you have a boyfriend and plan to get married in the future.”

“Even if one day he remembers the past, as long as you are happy, he will not disturb your life anymore.”
