Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 768: Don’t make life hard for yourself

Hotel

When Gu Kai opened the door and saw Wen Ran with red and swollen eyes at the doorway, he immediately frowned.

He pulled her into the room, squinted his eyes, and gazed at her carefully, “Ranran, why have you been crying again?”

Wen Ran bit her lip upon hearing Gu Kai’s words with three parts concern and two parts reprimand.

Her swollen eyes welled up with tears involuntarily again. She said softly, “Brother, I want to go back home.”

Gu Kai was taken aback, “Ranran, we have just arrived here today. Why do you want to go home again? Is it because of Mo Xiuchen?”

As he spoke, he brought her to the couch and poured her a glass of water.

Wen Ran took the glass of water and placed it on the coffee table. Facing Gu Kai’s concerned gaze, she said softly, “Bro, I only came to D Country to take a glance at Mo Xiuchen and to see if he is doing well. Now that I have seen him and know that he is doing well, I am content.”

Gu Kai sighed, sat down next to Wen Ran, lifted her hair away from her ear, revealing her pretty, clear, and fair face.

He spoke gently, “Ranran, Mo Xiuchen doesn’t know you. You don’t have to be scared or worried as long as we don’t tell him about those things. You’re not breaking your promise to Cheng Jia. Furthermore, what happened earlier was just a coincidence. You don’t need to rush back.”

Wen Ran lifted her small face slightly, her tear-filled eyes shimmering brightly under the crystal lamp, “Bro, Mo Xiuchen just sent me a message. He already knows that I was the owner of that number, and that I have been communicating with him through messages these days.”

“Mo Xiuchen is clever, it is normal for him to find out. Ranran, it’s nothing strange for Mo Xiuchen to know you’re the owner of that number. Even if he finds out the connection between you two in a short amount of time, and knows about your past, it’s not strange.”

Gu Kai hesitated for a moment, and analyzed all the possible events that may occur to Wen Ran, to prevent her from becoming unsettled.

Under the light, Wen Ran’s already fair face turned even paler.

Seeing the flicker of pain in her eyes, Gu Kai felt a twinge in his heart. He pursed his lips and asked softly, “Ranran, if Mo Xiuchen remembers the past, or if he falls in love with you again, are you really going to keep rejecting him?”

“Bro!”

Wen Ran’s voice trembled slightly.

Her eyes were filled with tears, her lips quivering. Whether Mo Xiuchen fell in love with her again or he remembered their past, were all things she had been hoping for these days.

However, she was scared at this moment.

She was extremely conflicted. She wanted to love but dared not to. She wanted to see him but dared not to. She wanted to acknowledge him but dared not to…

All these things seemed to be only speculations and aspirations, but when they actually occurred, she was like a turtle, immediately retracting her head into the shell.

Gu Kai knew of her conflict and her pain. He smiled gently and said, “Ranran, you don’t have to torment yourself like this.”

“I’m not.”

Wen Ran’s voice was choked with emotion.

She was not only hurt, not only sad. She also had moments of joy. She came to D Country for Mo Xiuchen, and never expected to meet him so soon. Yet, she did.

Moreover, in a way she could not have foreseen. As she recalled the moment when she saw Mo Xiuchen walking towards her from a few meters away.

Her heart was taken aback, and for a moment, her heart seemed to stop beating.

“When do you want to return? Should I book the tickets now?”

Gu Kai gently stroked her head and asked softly.

Watching her tormented and conflicted, he even had a thought of wanting her to forget about Mo Xiuchen.

He knew what Ranran was afraid of. If they could never be together, it would be better for her to forget about Mo Xiuchen.

Wen Ran pursed her lips and said softly, “Book the tickets for tomorrow.”

“Alright, I will make a phone call and book the tickets for tomorrow.”

Gu Kai said as he took out his phone. As long as Ranran felt better, he would support whatever she wanted.

Meanwhile, in the apartment, Mo Xiuchen was leaning lazily on the couch. He asked casually, “How is your foot? Has it gotten better?”

“Xiuchen, I sprained my foot again.”

The moment Cheng Jia heard Mo Xiuchen’s concern, her voice on the phone started to sound aggrieved.

She almost told him that she had been slapped twice on her first day back home.

“How did you sprain your foot?”

Mo Xiuchen leaned forward, put his phone on speaker, and placed it on the coffee table. He picked up a glass of water from the side and drank elegantly.

“Xiuchen, I want to come back to D Country.”

Cheng Jia gave a non sequitur, her tone full of longing for him. Mo Xiuchen responded indifferently, “Didn’t you just sprain your ankle? How are you going to come? How about this, I’ll come back and see you in a few days.”

“Xiuchen, are you coming back to see me?”

Cheng Jia was pleasantly surprised, almost not believing her own ears.

Mo Xiuchen’s mouth curved into a cold smile, his voice emotionless, “Yes, a company under the MS Group has a competitor, Haochen, in a bidding process next week. I will come back to check it.”

He said it casually, but Cheng Jia was taken aback. Just a second ago, she was happy that Mo Xiuchen cared about her.

That he was going to come back to her. But the next moment, she said in a bit of panic,

“Xiuchen, never mind. You’re not fully recovered yet. You shouldn’t be traveling back and forth so much. As for Haochen, didn’t the Chairman say to wait until you are done with your work in D Country before we acquire their company? You don’t need to rush back.”

Mo Xiuchen’s eyes flashed with a cold light, his tone suddenly turned stern, “I know what to do.”

**

Gu Kai and Wen Ran flew directly back to G City.

Not seeing Bai Xiaoxiao for several days, after getting off the plane, Gu Kai instructed the driver to first drop Wen Ran off at Bai Xiaoxiao’s company before going home.

When Wen Ran appeared in Bai Xiaoxiao’s office, Bai Xiaoxiao was buried in her computer, working diligently.

She only said “Come in” when she heard the knock on the door. She only looked up when the door opened.

When she saw Wen Ran standing at the door, her eyes immediately brightened.

She cheerfully exclaimed ‘Ah’ and ran out from behind her desk to pull Wen Ran to sit on the sofa.

“Ranran, why are you back?”

Wen Ran smiled at her brightly. “I missed you, so I came back.”

“Ranran, didn’t you say that you’re busy this week? By the way, I heard from Zhou Lin that she went to City C to look for you, is that true?”

Bai Xiaoxiao asked curiously. She had met Zhou Lin that day and heard from her.

Wen Ran nodded. “It’s true. She did come to look for me before she left. Xiaoxiao, I didn’t come back from City C, I came back from D Country.”

“D Country?”

Bai Xiaoxiao exclaimed, staring at Wen Ran with a stunned face. Was she saying she came back from D Country?

Wen Ran gave her a you-didn’t-hear-it-wrong expression. “Get me a glass of water, thanks, let me quench my thirst, and I’ll tell you after.”

Bai Xiaoxiao’s movements were swift. She got up to pour Wen Ran a cup of water.

It was just the right temperature, too.

Handing her the cup of water, she said pleasingly, “Ranran, have a drink and tell me. What were you doing in D Country? Did you see Mo Xiuchen?”
