Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 790: 788 Your acting skills are really good

Thinking of this, Cheng Jia steeled herself, deciding to go all in.

If she could win over Mo Xiuchen’s heart, enduring little spiciness was nothing.

Picking up her chopsticks, she smiled gently and said softly, “Xiuchen, don’t be upset, I’ll join you.”

“You don’t have to.” Mo Xiuchen didn’t even look at her. He was eating gracefully. In reality, he wasn’t sure if Cheng Jia couldn’t eat spicy food or not. During their two-plus months in D Country, Cheng Jia never ate spicy food. Also, because of his physical condition, he always avoided eating spicy food.

Compared to today, where he ordered a whole table full of intensely spicy Szechuan dishes, only one dish was non-spicy.

This non-spicy dish was placed in front of him, and it was the one he was eating.

...
Cheng Jia had wanted to suggest changing the restaurant because he couldn’t eat spicy food and she dared not to eat spicy dishes. However, seeing Mo Xiuchen’s displeasure, she didn’t dare to voice out her idea.

“You do not need to eat much, just as long as you don’t waste these dishes, you can try a little of everything.” Mo Xiuchen finally lifted his gaze towards her. Seeing her hesitation, he put down his chopsticks, picked up the communal ones and started putting food into her bowl.

If it was any other time, Cheng Jia would have been moved to tears.

However, right now, even before she tasted the food in her bowl, she started sweating profusely. She struggled to maintain the smile on her face: “Xiuchen, you don’t have to serve me, I can do it myself.”

“That’s fine, I’ll serve whatever you eat, so as not to waste my effort.” Mo Xiuchen stirred up a smile, seemingly in a very good mood.

From the moment Cheng Jia saw the full table of Szechuan dishes, he knew he had made the right call.

She was indeed afraid of spice; her fear justified his wasted of money on ordering a table full of Szechuan dishes.

Cheng Jia forced a smile, though it appeared uglier than if she were crying. She took a bite of the spicy pork tripe that Mo Xiuchen placed in her plate. As soon as it entered her mouth, her smile instantly disappeared, her pale face turned red as if she was drunk, and her eyes welled up with tears.

She attempted to swallow the spicy tripe, the burning sensation travelled down her throat into her stomach.

“How’s the taste?”

Mo Xiuchen saw her restrained reaction; the smile at the corner of his mouth spread, lighting up his handsome face, making him appear even more charming.

While seeing him smile, Cheng Jia felt that everything was worth it. She quickly put on a bright smile, stating, “Delicious.”

“If it’s delicious, then eat more.” Mo Xiuchen continued to serve food into her bowl till it was full before he put down his chopsticks and took a sip of his water.

Cheng Jia braced herself and continued to eat. With every bite, she felt the burning sensation in her stomach increased. It felt like she was not eating food but swallowing bombs which would explode in her stomach at any moment.

However, the man seated opposite her had such a charming smile. She had never seen him this happy. She would gladly do anything he asked, even if it cost her life.

“Xiuchen, when did you return to our country?”

Cheng Jia asked as if she just thought about it.

After having a few bites, her mouth went numb, making her voice sound off.

Mo Xiuchen saw her trying to hold back the tears while smiling. He found it quite amusing. He knew she was fighting against her fears but he didn’t feel sorry for her. If it were Wen Ran instead of Cheng Jia, Mo Xiuchen would never allow her to challenge herself in such a manner.

Thinking about this, a cold glint flashed through his eyes, his expression turned indifferent. “I returned yesterday.”

“Yesterday? Xiuchen, than were you at home yesterday night?”

Cheng Jia hesitated before she asked again.

“You eat and I’ll tell you slowly.” Mo Xiuchen’s narrowed eyes and increased smile captivated Cheng Jia’s heart, making her continue to eat the spicy food.

Mo Xiuchen leaned back into his chair and said lightly, “A few days back, I dreamed of a phone number, and when I dialed it, a woman answered. So, yesterday, I went to find her.”

“Ahem, ahem, ahem…”

Once Cheng Jia heard that, she started coughing violently. She had just been eating spicy food and the sudden shock made her feel like dying.

Mo Xiuchen, sitting across from her, was completely indifferent. He didn’t offer her water nor patted her back as he would have done for Wen Ran. Instead, he was enjoying himself.

Mo Xiuchen was in an exceptionally good mood when he saw Cheng Jia’s embarrassment and agony.

Cheng Jia coughed for a while, and when she finally stopped she was teary-eyed, looking unbearably pitiful. However, she was facing the wrong person and could not gain any sympathy.

“Cheng Jia, why are you so worked up?” Mo Xiuchen hid his smile when she raised her eyes to meet his. His face was cold, his gaze chilly. The corner of his mouth was slightly raised in a cold smirk.

Cheng Jia’s heart skipped a beat.

Her first reaction was that Mo Xiuchen might have recalled something, or perhaps he already knew about the past. That might be why he invited her out and ordered a full table of dishes, all just to mock her.

Once this idea appeared, she quickly denied it.

It’s impossible. Even if he remembered a phone number, even if that number belonged to Wen Ran, and even if he went to City C to find Wen Ran, Wen Ran would not have told him anything.

Nor would anyone else around her tell Mo Xiuchen.

Mo Xiuchen had forgotten Wen Ran. It was unlikely that he would fall in love with her or start liking her just based on a phone number or one meeting.

“Xiuchen, you said earlier, you remembered a phone number. Whose number is it, did you find that person?”

Cheng Jia tried her best to conceal her true feelings. She told herself as long as Mo Xiuchen didn’t remember, she had nothing to fear. So she expressed joy instead of panic.

Mo Xiuchen didn’t answer, only watching her with sharp eyes. Cheng Jia felt a tremor of fear amidst the oppressive feeling he emitted. She felt stiff.

Her hand, which was holding the chopsticks, tightened. “Xiuchen, why are you watching me like this?”

Unable to withstand the immense pressure from Mo Xiuchen’s gaze, her voice seemed a bit tense.

Mo Xiuchen’s gaze remained firm and sharp. He only spoke when Cheng Jia’s forced resistance was gradually dissolving, his voice dripped with sarcasm. “Cheng Jia, you truly are a good actress!”

“Xiuchen, I don’t understand what you’re saying.”

Cheng Jia’s heart pounded. Her beautiful face turned pale.

For a moment, she couldn’t think clearly, and her mind went blank. The only phrase stuck in her mind was Mo Xiuchen’s words, “Cheng Jia, you truly are a good actress!”
