Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 785: After 784, can you stop hiding from me, okay?

Wen Ran pursed her lips and forced a smile. “It’s fine, I am just a bit surprised that you knew me before that.”

“Hmm, I’m surprised too.”

Mo Xiuchen said, smiling, his gaze always warm as he watched Wen Ran. Just looking at her made him feel warm and secure.

It was a world of difference from the days he had spent alone in D Country.

Wen Ran did not respond but lowered her eyes to quietly eat her breakfast.

Mo Xiuchen gave a soft chuckle and didn’t say anything else. He picked up a box of dumplings and started to eat. For a while, there was only the sound of eating, no conversation.

...
Even so, the atmosphere wasn’t awkward or odd. On the contrary, there was a warm, comfortable feeling in the air. From afar, it looked like an enchanting painting.

After breakfast, Wen Ran got up to wash the dishes. Mo Xiuchen put the breakfast box into a trash bag and took it outside.

When Wen Ran was done washing dishes and came out, Mo Xiuchen was already sitting on the living room sofa, casually flipping through a magazine. He wasn’t really focused on it. As soon as he saw her, he looked up and smiled at her.

He didn’t seem to think it was impolite at all to act like the master of her home. Neither did he see anything inappropriate about his actions.

Just now he had even asked her if Qin Mu was her boyfriend.

“You’re free today?”

Wen Ran walked up to the sofa but didn’t sit down. Instead, she stood by the coffee table calmly looking at Mo Xiuchen.

He had finished breakfast already, why was he still not planning to leave?

Was he planning to stay at her place all day?

Mo Xiuchen’s mouth curved into an attractive smile as he gestured for her to sit. “I’m free today. Lucky for me, you’re not working either, so I won’t be lonely.”

Wen Ran’s mouth twitched a little, “I have something going on later.”

“What is it?”

Mo Xiuchen inquired further, gazing at her as if trying to figure out if she was lying.

“Private matters.”

The look on Wen Ran’s face suggested she had no intention of elaborating. Someone with a little common sense would understand to leave at this point, but Mo Xiuchen was not such a man.

A thoughtful look crossed his eyes as he composed himself and asked seriously. “Ran Ran, did I ever do something to hurt you in the past?”

Wen Ran’s face changed, and she immediately denied it subconsciously. “No, you were a friend of my brother’s. You and I… aren’t close.”

A hint of melancholy spread across Mo Xiuchen’s features as he looked down. “Is that so? But why do I feel like I’ve known you for a long time? Back when I was in D Country, Cheng Jia claimed she was my fiancée, and said we were very much in love before. But I didn’t believe it.”

Wen Ran, who stiffly stood in front of the sofa, pursed her lips and quietly listened to him continue. “I feel like I’ve forgotten about someone very important, and that person is definitely not Cheng Jia. Whenever I look at her, I just feel annoyed.”

“One night I woke up from a dream and remembered your phone number. I called you then, and you said it was a wrong number.”

Mo Xiuchen’s voice was deep and carried a hint of sadness. He looked up and met Wen Ran’s gaze, noticing the sadness in her eyes. This made his heart tighten.

“Ran Ran, don’t be upset. I won’t force you to tell me.”

Hearing his comforting words felt like a stab in the heart to Wen Ran. As she held back her tears, she quickly turned around so he wouldn’t notice her getting emotional.

Noting her body’s stiff posture, Mo Xiuchen’s mouth set in a determined line.

With her back to him, Wen Ran tried to control the waves of grief rising within her. After a few moments of silence, Mo Xiuchen rose and laid a hand on her wrist, pulling her around to face him.

Wen Ran let out a gasp as she was caught off guard, her eyes wide.

As soon as she met the deep look of heartache in Mo Xiuchen’s gaze, her heart skipped a beat. She quickly averted her eyes. His gentle voice brought her attention back to his handsome face.

“Ran Ran, I don’t know what I may have done in the past to hurt you, to the point that you’re avoiding me and refuse to acknowledge any connection between us.”

“You didn’t.”

Wen Ran retorted crisply.

But Mo Xiuchen just laughed softly, his tone gentle. “Since I haven’t, then don’t avoid me. Okay?”

“I have a boyfriend.”

Wen Ran reminded herself and lowered her gaze to avoid looking at him.

Mo Xiuchen didn’t get mad or upset. Instead, his grin deepened, and he arrogantly countered, “That’s okay, you just have a boyfriend, you’re not married. Ran Ran, if we truly didn’t know each other before, be prepared because I’m pursuing you now.”

Wen Ran was taken aback. She stared at Mo Xiuchen in disbelief.

How could he be so domineering? She said she had a boyfriend and that they hardly knew each other. But none of this seemed to matter to him.

He said that he’d pursue her.

And he told her to be prepared.

She tried to pull her hand away from his grip. But as soon as she tried to pull away, his grip tightened, preventing her from withdrawing.

Wen Ran inwardly took a deep breath, feeling annoyed. “Don’t make jokes like that. We’ve only met once or twice…”

“Ran Ran, I’m not joking. I’m serious. I’m telling you that I like you. Regardless of what our relationship was in the past or whether I may have hurt you, that’s all in the past. I’ve forgotten it all, and you can’t keep resenting me for it.”

Mo Xiuchen cut her off, his tone serious and firm.

From his observations the night before, he was sure that the woman in front of him was genuinely avoiding him.

He was sure of his feelings for her, perhaps it was love at first sight. Whether it was her heartbreaking sorrow or her voice, he just liked her.

No reason, no rationale. He just did.

Speechless, Wen Ran didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Mo Xiuchen might have lost his memory, but his domineering ways hadn’t changed. Seeing him taking the matter so seriously, for a moment she didn’t know what to say.

Mo Xiuchen was pleased by her silence. He stared at her for a moment. His features softened a bit as he was about to say something else when his phone suddenly rang.

“Ran Ran, let me answer this call.”

With that, he released her hand and took out his mobile. As Mo Xiuchen glanced at the caller ID, his brows furrowed instinctively. His face hardened as he pressed the answer button and said coldly, “Hello?”

“Xiuchen, I heard you’re back in the country. Why didn’t I see you come home? Where are you?”

Mo Jingteng’s voice came through, showing a hint of annoyance. Clearly, he wasn’t pleased with Mo Xiuchen’s sudden return, and even more with Xiuchen’s mysterious disappearance after that which made him hard to locate.
