Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 781: 780 No money, I’ll make do at your place for one night

Just ten minutes later, Wen Ran and Mo Xiuchen arrived at a barbecue restaurant.

Without asking what Mo Xiuchen liked to eat, Wen Ran ordered half meat and half vegetable dishes. While waiting for their food, Wen Ran poured Mo Xiuchen a glass of water. Seemingly remembering something, she asked, “Can you eat barbecue? If not, there’s a health porridge shop nearby.”

“It’s fine, I can eat it.”

Mo Xiuchen shrugged it off with a smile. Although he wasn’t particularly fond of barbecue, he was willing to share it with her since she enjoyed it so much.

But he was mistaken.

When the barbecue arrived, Wen Ran did not allow him to eat any, “I didn’t actually order any for you. I haven’t had barbecue in a long time, so all of this is mine.”

...
Mo Xiuchen laughed at her, “Ranran, can you eat this much all by yourself?”

He had not expected that she had ordered everything for herself when she was ordering the barbecue. Had she tricked him into thinking she invited him for a barbecue dinner?

“I’ll eat half and pack the rest away,” Wen Ran replied with a smile.”

Mo Xiuchen, looking at her playful smile, felt an unexpected throb in his heart. A flicker of emotion passed over his eyes as he leaned back into his chair and casually responded, “Alright, I wasn’t really that hungry anyway. I’ll accompany you with your barbecue first, and then you can accompany me for supper.”

“Sure, no problem.”

Wen Ran readily agreed. Initially, she thought that he did not like barbecue, without considering whether he could eat it or not.

Only after ordering did she suddenly remember that he had undergone surgery three months ago, and his body might not be suitable for barbecue. She asked the waiter to pack half of the food, and planned to eat the other half herself.

Mo Xiuchen sat across from her, watching her eat with gentle eyes. Wen Ran was neither shy nor pretentious about being watched. She didn’t attempt to mimic Mo Xiuchen’s elegant eating, yet, in his eyes, he seemed to find it amusing.

He discovered that he really liked the woman in front of him.

Even though he had met her only once, and she had hastily escaped that time.

But that did not prevent him from developing feelings for her. Being with her made him happy. He did not need any other reason nor did he have to put any effort. He simply felt happy.

He felt a warmth, satisfaction, and security in his heart.

Unlike the time when Cheng Jia was by his side, all he felt then was irritation. Even when she spoke a few more words, he felt disgusted and wanted her to stay far away from him. He simply couldn’t stand her being around.

After munching on a couple of skewers, Wen Ran looked up, met gazing eyes of Mo Xiuchen with hint of smile, and apologized somewhat, “If you’re hungry, you can go to the porridge shop next door first. I’ll join you in a bit.”

Mo Xiuchen shook his head, elegantly took a sip of his water and answered, “I’ll wait for you. What if you run away while I’m gone?”

Wen Ran didn’t know whether to laugh or be annoyed, “You’re afraid I’ll run away, but not afraid I’ll sell you off?”

“You won’t be able to.”

Mo Xiuchen replied seriously, Wen Ran was taken aback, how could a good-looking man like him not sell?

“Don’t worry, you are so handsome and dashing. I just need to shout once, and I guarantee everyone will rush to buy you.” Wen Ran looked at him mischievously and teased.

Mo Xiuchen gave a faint smile, gently caressing his glass and patiently explained, “What I mean is, the price I’ve set for myself is so high, nobody can afford it. Which means you can’t sell me.”

Wen Ran coughed awkwardly, “Alright, I misunderstood. Since you can’t be sold, I won’t even think about it.”

“Yes.”

Mo Xiuchen nodded satisfactorily. His gaze and expression gave Wen Ran an illusion as if he was saying that since he couldn’t be sold, she should keep him for herself.

“Did you, uh, book the hotel?”

Wen Ran wrinkled her eyebrows, trying not to overthink, she changed the subject.

Mo Xiuchen had been expecting her to ask this question. He had called her right after arriving in City C and asked her to pick him up, without giving a thought about booking a hotel.

She hadn’t asked about it all the way, but now she finally remembered. He couldn’t help but laugh, but he held back and furrowed his brows, lowering his voice as he said, “Ranran, I don’t have any money on me. I don’t think I’ll stay at a hotel. Tonight, I’ll just make do sleeping on your couch.”

“Cough…”

Wen Ran was in the middle of swallowing food when she heard Mo Xiuchen’s words and started coughing uncontrollably.

Seeing her from the opposite side, Mo Xiuchen felt guilty. Without thinking, he got up, moved to the seat next to her, and started patting her back gently while handing her the water from the table, “Ranran, have some water.”

His hand came down on Wen Ran’s back, and he could clearly feel her tense up a bit.

Wen Ran paused, looked at him and said, “I’m fine.”

Mo Xiuchen didn’t stop patting her back. Each pat was gentle, his gaze on her held an unexpected warmth, even he wasn’t aware of.

Wen Ran took the water and sipped it twice. She coughed a few more times, then slowly stopped.

“I’m alright now.”

Wen Ran’s voice softly filled the space, implying that he should remove his hand from her back. But Mo Xiuchen surprisingly felt a twinge of reluctance. As he lifted his hand from Wen Ran’s back, warmth vanished and his heart instantly grew cold.

“Ranran, do you have a boyfriend?”

Before Wen Ran could resume her meal, Mo Xiuchen asked another question. Wen Ran averted her gaze, avoiding his question and turned to ask the waiter to box her meal.

Seeing her not responding, Mo Xiuchen didn’t press on. He simply chuckled and said,”Ranran, don’t misunderstand, I just think that a lot of men must be pursuing you since you’re so pretty and cute. If you have a boyfriend, he’d be jealous if I stay overnight at your place. But, you probably don’t.”

Wen Ran’s eyebrow raised slightly, “Why?”

“Hehe!”

Mo Xiuchen laughed as he clarified, “If you had a boyfriend, you wouldn’t have picked me up from the airport this late and invited me for supper. So I’m guessing you don’t have a boyfriend and I don’t need to worry about anyone getting jealous.”

Wen Ran incredulously stared at Mo Xiuchen, wondering about his logic, and also to confirm, had she agreed to let him stay at her place for the night?

Initially, she didn’t think there was anything inappropriate about it, but after hearing his explanation, she realized that picking him up at such a late hour might not be such a good idea.

But still, she couldn’t bring herself to leave him stranded at the airport.

She lowered her eyes and sighed silently.

In this lifetime, she was never Mo Xiuchen’s equal. From the moment he first called her, she was always disguising herself. But no matter how well she hid herself, there were always traces left behind.

Because, the person on the other side was Mo Xiuchen.

A man who was attentive, shrewd, and cunning.
