Caught in Affairs with Superstar

Chapter 14: Chapter 14 The Beginning of the Scandal: 14

Zhou Yun had no intention of analyzing the pros and cons of the changes brought about by the times.

Caught in the tides, there’s no tracing back, only to do one’s best to ride the waves and break through.

Upon arrival at the destination, she got off the car, met the host for the live broadcast in advance, exchanged pleasantries, and then went to redo her styling and make-up.

The make-up artist was arranged by Zhou Lan, hired by the company, waiting for her in the resting room here.

As soon as Zhou Yun arrived, the make-up artist immediately got to work.

Zhou Lan went over the script with Zhou Yun on the side, informing her of the live broadcast’s process.

While Zhou Yun silently memorized it, she contemplated what kind of demeanor she should present during the live broadcast.

Any opportunity to show one’s face is a chance to present oneself to everyone; in this age of information, no one knows which moment might resonate with the pulse of this era, leading to overnight fame.

Therefore, one must always be prepared, to not miss the opportunity when it arrives.

Zhou Yun had always had this attitude when she was studying.

As the live broadcast began in the evening, Zhou Yun only had to read from the script and answer some questions in coordination with the host. The host was very experienced, and also one of the most popular hosts currently. Zhou Yun maintained an enthusiastic demeanor, jokingly introduced products while laughing with the host, and completed her work tasks.

The contract stipulated that she would participate in the live broadcast for thirty minutes.

By the twentieth minute, the scripted process had almost been completed.

Her work was done, and Zhou Yun’s tension relaxed a bit, knowing that after playing a few games with the host she could wrap up.

”Xiao Yun, being such a great beauty, you must have many people pursuing you, right?” the host suddenly asked.

This question was not on the script. It took Zhou Yun by surprise, leaving her momentarily stunned and at a loss.

”I—”, with the live broadcast camera right in front of her, any reaction would be exposed to the viewers, Zhou Yun dared not speak recklessly. In a flash, she smiled sweetly, her eyes shimmering with clarity like ripples on water, and teasingly asked back, ”What’s up? Are you trying to ask if I’m single? Are you planning to confess your feelings to me?”

Now it was the host’s turn to be caught off guard.

Zhou Yun’s response was clearly beyond what the host expected. The host laughed awkwardly and said, ”I... Xiao Yun, your joke left me speechless.”

Zhou Yun’s smile was radiant, ”Well then, it seems I was too presumptuous. Here I thought you’d fallen for me at first sight.”

Host: ”...”

In the end, Zhou Yun ended the live broadcast with grace and wit.

As soon as the broadcast ended, the brilliant smile on Zhou Yun’s face faded, and she turned to look for Zhou Lan in the crowd.

Zhou Lan was talking to someone, arguing emphatically, with a serious expression, as if in a dispute.

”Zhou Yun, today’s live broadcast was very effective. My live broadcast room’s fans all said you looked even better than in photos,” the host said to Zhou Yun while packing up the microphone.

Zhou Yun smiled lightly and said, ”Thank you.”

Her attitude was somewhat distant.

At this point, Zhou Lan seemed to have finished arguing with the person, came over, saw the host, immediately frowned, but said nothing, and simply told Zhou Yun, ”It’s over. There’s other work to do. Let’s go.”

Zhou Yun hummed an acknowledgement and waved goodbye to the people present with a smile.

After getting in the car and closing the door, Zhou Lan said with a serious face, ”The question that person asked you during the live broadcast wasn’t on the script. It was his improvisation. I’ve already discussed it with the person in charge of their company. However, it didn’t violate any terms of the contract. They said it was normal improvisation, nothing out of the ordinary during a live broadcast. I will report this to our company and suggest that our artists should try to avoid going to this person’s live room in the future.”

After hearing this, Zhou Yun smiled lightly.

She knew, and so did Zhou Lan, that this was unlikely.

After all, it was a small matter; Zhou Yun wasn’t substantially affected by it. Even if it didn’t follow the script, it wasn’t a big deal.

The current entertainment mediums, whether it’s variety shows or live broadcasts, all value an element of surprise.

If this incident got out, viewers would only criticize Zhou Yun for being fussy, acting like a diva without actual star status; they wouldn’t care they had gone over the script beforehand nor that the other party had promised to follow it.

That host was one of the hottest at the moment; for artists, it was already a great platform for exposure. How could the company blacklist this live room just because of this incident?

”In the future, we just won’t go ourselves,” Zhou Yun said in an indifferent voice.

Her entire tone softened, no longer as radiant and lively as during the live broadcast, her voice filled with vigor and vitality.

Zhou Lan looked down at her phone and said, ”During the live broadcast, the audience in the live room spoke highly of you, all complimenting your beauty.”

”They’re just passers-by.”

Zhou Lan looked back at her.

Zhou Yun smiled faintly and said, ”Passers-by compliment your beauty; real fans would shout ’hubby’ straight away.”

Zhou Lan wore an amused and helpless expression, ”I thought you were going to say something else, but honestly, your reaction just now was really good; a lot of people praised you for keeping calm under pressure.”

”Keeping calm under pressure? Haha.” Zhou Yun nodded, her eyes curving into a smile, ”I like this compliment.”

”I plan to promote this, focusing on how you cleverly turned the tables on the host.”

Hearing this, Zhou Yun hesitated.

”Promoting this now, wouldn’t others think I’m always marketing men? First Song Chi, then this host,” Zhou Yun instinctively shook her head, ”Sister Lan, I don’t really want to keep marketing myself tied to men; this would give the public the impression that I’m always entangled with men.”

Zhou Lan nodded, agreeing, ”There is that downside, but right now is when your popularity is at its peak. If we don’t strike while the iron is hot, this chance will pass by. You should know, just these few days your earnings are comparable to your entire last year’s income.”

Zhou Yun was silent.

Money was always her Achilles’ heel; she was in dire need of it now.

Marketing brings popularity, popularity can be exchanged for money.

This is the irrefutable rule in the current showbiz, even top stars can’t avoid the word ’data’.

After a long pause, Zhou Yun nodded and said, ”Alright, go ahead and do it.”

Zhou Lan said, ”I’ll try to steer clear of romantic implications and guide the focus on your quick-witted response.”

That night, under the operation of Zhou Lan, Zhou Yun appeared in the trending searches for the second time with the topic: Zhou Yun counters Xiao Hu by asking, ”Do you like me?”

Xiao Hu was the popular live broadcast host, fairly handsome, with many female fans.

After finishing her work, Zhou Yun soaked in the bathtub for a long time until her skin turned red before she got out.

There was an unread message on her phone from an unknown number.

——Do you know who I am?
