Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2526: Chapter 2527: Diversion Strategy

Bai Ruozhu quickly put on the maid’s clothes and altered her disguise a bit, turning into an ordinary-looking little maid.

She wandered around the yard and found the place where the servants went to watch the excitement. She pricked up her ears and listened carefully to the gossip around her.

”It’s actually a male demon. I wonder what he’s up to this time.”

”Was he caught by a Yin Yang Master?”

”I heard the guards caught him just by taking action, so he doesn’t seem all that powerful.”

”Does he look good, or is he particularly hideous? I heard that demons are either extraordinarily beautiful or terribly hideous.”

”You only care about appearances. I just took a glance, and he looks pretty much like a normal person.”

”...”

The onlookers whispered among themselves, and Bai Ruozhu gathered quite a bit of information.

The demon that was captured doesn’t seem very powerful; otherwise, they wouldn’t have needed to use a Yin Yang Master, and just the guards could capture him.

She quietly moved a bit closer and saw someone tied to the biggest tree in the yard. A pile of firewood was already stacked at his feet; it seemed like they were going to burn him alive.

The person’s head was hanging down, and it was unclear if he was unconscious.

Bai Ruozhu’s heart suddenly skipped a beat. Why did those demon’s clothes look familiar?

It’s Zhitian!

She wasn’t familiar with Zhitian, so she didn’t recognize him at first glance, but her memory was good, and upon closer thought, she realized it was the outfit Zhitian was wearing before they parted ways.

”Everyone, quiet down. Today we caught another demon. To serve as a warning to others, the Patriarch has decided to burn the demon alive!” the Fushan Family steward announced.

”Burn him!”

”Yes, burn the demon!”

”Burn him!”

The servants chimed in, although none of the Fushan Family masters were present.

Bai Ruozhu bit her lip. On what grounds did these people conclude that Zhitian was a demon? Clearly, he is a person. If he were caught as a thief, he’d be sent to the Government Office for them to handle. How could they arbitrarily use lynching to burn someone alive?

She didn’t know whether the decision was made by the newly appointed Patriarch or the Crown Prince, or perhaps they saw something and were trying to lure someone else out?

Even if Bai Ruozhu knew it was a trap, she couldn’t just not rescue Zhitian. Not to mention that Zhitian was one of the Astrologer’s subordinates, she couldn’t bear to see someone burnt alive, even if it was just an ordinary person.

Just then, Zhitian suddenly woke up, lifted his head, and his eyes were somewhat bewildered, but he quickly became clear-headed, revealing a look of horror.

”What are you doing? I said I’m not a demon; how can you burn me?” Zhitian shouted.

The steward sneered, ”No demon ever admits they’re a demon. If you’re not a demon, how did you sneak in?”

”I...” Zhitian hesitated, ”I passed by here and heard that the Fushan Family is particularly wealthy, so I wanted to take some things as traveling expenses. I know I was wrong; you can’t burn me!”

”So you’re a thief; you came in to steal things. Burning you is well-deserved!” the steward said unceremoniously.

Bai Ruozhu pondered how to make a move, and after hearing the steward’s words, she became even more anxious. There were so many people in the yard, a large number of guards, and she didn’t know if there were Yin Yang Masters or Ninjas hiding in the shadows. It’s one thing to escape by herself, but rescuing someone from the center of the encirclement was challenging!

Must she watch Zhitian be burned to death?

Although very nervous, fortunately, the more nervous she gets, the calmer she becomes.

While no one was paying attention, she quietly threw out a Qiu Zhi talisman. The talisman transformed into a ray of light and emitted a meowing sound, jumping out with a swoosh.

”Ah, there’s a cat demon!” someone shouted in panic.

The phantom of the talisman ran outside the yard. Where it ran, Bai Ruozhu didn’t know; it was just running randomly, and it would disappear soon.

Several guards hurried out to chase it, and many people scattered in fear.

Bai Ruozhu used this opportunity to quietly slip out of the yard. She used her lightness skill to find a courtyard with no one and took out a fire striker to light up an empty room nearby.

To make the fire bigger and spread faster, she even took some oil from her space and poured it onto the wooden eaves.

After finishing all this, she suddenly saw a woman lying in the backyard of the house.

In normal circumstances, who would sleep on the ground? This woman was probably unconscious, right?

Bai Ruozhu didn’t want to meddle in other people’s business, but she was afraid that if the fire flared up, it would reach the backyard, and if it burned the woman to death, she’d be to blame.

She had no choice but to jump into the backyard to check the woman’s condition.

What she saw gave her a fright. The woman was poisoned with a potent aphrodisiac, a kind of pill. The poisoning had occurred not long ago, and she was afraid that the woman would wake up soon. Once awake, she’d be overwhelmed with desire and likely lose her mind, not knowing what she might do.

”Since I came across this, I might as well help,” Bai Ruozhu muttered, then lifted the woman and ran off.

Soon, someone spotted the thick smoke and large fire, shouting about the fire. Most of the guards who were watching over Zhitian went to put it out, and the onlookers also rushed to help.

Bai Ruozhu touched the woman’s sleeping acupoint and gave her a green pill, then hid with the woman to observe Zhitian’s situation.

Seeing it was about time, Bai Ruozhu carefully hid the woman. As for whether she could escape her fate later, it depended on her own luck. Bai Ruozhu had done all she could.

She sneaked back into the yard, extended her fingers, but soon paused and instead used an ordinary sleeping powder, spreading it into the air.

Using too potent a poison would definitely raise suspicion. If it were something ordinary, it would be harder for them to investigate.

The ordinary powder took effect slowly, and Bai Ruozhu felt that every moment was torment, afraid that too many people would return. Furball wanted to help with illusions, but Bai Ruozhu refused.

Furball’s illusions could only be used once every seven days; such a thing had to be used for critical situations.

Finally, the guards started to fall one by one. Bai Ruozhu hurried forward, pulling out a dagger to cut the ropes binding Zhitian.

”Master, is it you?” Zhitian looked at Bai Ruozhu, his eyes unfocused. Bai Ruozhu waved her hand in front of his eyes, ”What’s wrong with your eyes?”

Zhitian smiled bitterly, ”I’m not blind. They used some spell to seal my power and vision. Master Astrologer can help me break it.”

”Did they use a Yin Yang Master?” Bai Ruozhu’s heart tightened, but she felt it wasn’t Ning Yu. What Ning Yu learned in the Astrology Tower shouldn’t have these effects.

”I didn’t even see anyone, and I was already trapped. I don’t know where the Yin Yang Master is hiding. You should leave first; it’s too dangerous to take me with you,” Zhitian urged.

Bai Ruozhu had already untied him, grabbed him, and said, ”Shut up. I brought you here; I have to take you back. Otherwise, how will I explain to the Astrologer?”
