Chapter 2507: Chapter 2508: Overturning the Medicine Box

Bai Ruozhu also didn’t want to inexplicably accept a Fusang disciple, especially when the person was of royal status and the future Emperor. Once involved, troubles would surely arise.

For instance, if someone tried to seize his throne, as his teacher, should you intervene? But intervening would undoubtedly drag you into Fusang’s power struggles.

This time, she saved the second prince to help Master Puru and also because she appreciated Master Pudeng’s kindness. Besides, Master Puru was indeed admirable, but dealing with Royal Family members, she’d rather not get involved.

”Indeed, we won’t be staying long, plus as an envoy of Danliang Country, how can I accept the future Emperor of Fusang Country as a disciple?” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Why not? Mister Shen is just a merchant, but he’s still my teacher,” the second prince hurriedly said. As soon as he spoke, he realized he made a mistake, wanting to explain but unsure how. How could he forget Bai and Mister Shen had conflicts?

In the second prince’s eyes, it was merely a conflict, not a deep hatred.

He even felt there might be misunderstandings in this; he didn’t completely disbelieve Bai Ruozhu, but having spent years with She Zongyi, he always thought him a gentleman. How could he be the head of pirates?

So, he believed it was a misunderstanding, contemplating how to resolve it. Fortunately, he didn’t directly mention this to Bai Ruozhu, or she surely wouldn’t pay attention to him anymore.

”As She Zongyi’s student, I certainly can’t accept you as a disciple either. Now, you should rest well and not mention this again!” Bai Ruozhu said firmly, with an undeniable tone. The second prince opened his mouth, wanting to explain, but Bai Ruozhu had already walked out quickly.

Jiang Yichun, in a good mood, smiled as he glanced at the second prince and then followed Bai Ruozhu out. The second prince touched his head, wondering why he felt Lord Jiang’s gaze was peculiar.

The next day, the Emperor, Shangzi, and Empress Yazi came to see them off, but Princess Ya’an didn’t appear. Empress Yazi explained, ”Ya’an caught a chill. She originally planned to come but was persuaded by me to stay.”

Upon hearing this, the second prince’s face immediately showed concern, instinctively asking, ”Is it serious? Why not let Lord Bai check on her!”

Empress Yazi laughed, ”Your sister just caught a mild cold. There’s no need to bother Lord Bai. I’m just worried she’d get winded again; better she visit Lord Bai after recovering.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”Let the princess rest well and drink more hot water.”

The Emperor bestowed them some items, instructing the subordinates to help Bai Ruozhu and his people carry them to the posthouse.

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun walked side by side, followed by Yizi and Teng Ya, both vying to carry Bai Ruozhu’s medical box, feeling embarrassed to do nothing.

Eventually, Teng Ya picked it up, finding it noticeably heavier than usual but thought nothing of it.

Bai Ruozhu and the others bid farewell to the Emperor and Empresses, following Lord Da Gu leading the way towards the Palace Gate.

Halfway there, a servant carrying the rewards suddenly tripped, falling forward; generally, a fall wasn’t much, but he fell right towards Teng Ya, accidentally pulling the medical box from her hands before hitting the ground.

”Ah, the master’s medicine!” Teng Ya exclaimed, hurriedly picking it up, her voice choked with emotion, ”It’s all my fault; what should I do now.”

Bai Ruozhu squinted and glanced at the fallen servant, while Da Gu turned back, frowning, ”What’s going on? Can’t you even walk?”

The servant fell quite badly, scraping his nose on the gravel, causing it to bleed. He quickly stood up, ignoring the dirt and blood on his nose, kneeled, and said, ”Lord, it’s my fault. Please punish me.”

Da Gu looked at Bai Ruozhu, seeking her opinion. Bai Ruozhu raised an eyebrow, realizing that if she punished the person harshly, she might be labeled as harsh. Moreover, those who executed such deeds often got silenced, not long before he’d be seen as someone driven by her to suicide.

She was far too aware of such tactics to fall for them.

”Lord Da Gu, he was careless and got hurt; let him go back to apply some medicine,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

Da Gu nodded and, to the kneeling servant, ”Lord Bai is kind-hearted; hurry and leave!”

The servant hurriedly kowtowed in gratitude, standing up to leave, but Bai Ruozhu stopped him, ”Well, he fell while helping me carry things. I’m a soft-hearted person. How about letting him stay at the posthouse for a few days so I can tend to his injuries? We are indeed short-handed now; the Emperor wouldn’t mind lending us one, right?”

”Lord Bai, you’re too courteous, and the Emperor would surely agree. You may take him,” Lord Da Gu said, respectful.

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”Thank you very much, Lord Da Gu.”

The servant appeared terrified, kneeling again, kowtowing, ”Please, Lord, spare me. Please spare me!”

”What’s this about?” Bai Ruozhu feigned surprise.

Da Gu also glared at the servant, scolding him in Fusang Language, implying that Lord Bai was kindly offering to treat his injuries; what did his words mean?

Meanwhile, Teng Ya had gathered the belongings, glaring angrily at the man, ”You accidentally knocked over my master’s medical box, and she didn’t blame you. What are you yelling about?”

The servant trembled, evidently guilty and afraid. If Da Gu couldn’t see through the situation at this point, he’d have wasted his position beside the Emperor.

”Speak, what’s the matter!” Da Gu squinted, a Samurai Sword instantly drawn and placed at the servant’s neck.

The servant trembled all over, an unpleasant odor wafting, and Bai Ruozhu covered her nose, realizing the servant had wet himself from fright!

Such a coward might not be She Zongyi’s subordinate, but then why did he topple her medical box?

”L-Lord, I’ll speak...” the servant stammered in Fusang Language, explaining. Bai Ruozhu understood the gist but some words were beyond her comprehension.

After listening, Da Gu kicked him in rage, sheathing his sword.

”Lord Bai, sorry for the disturbance,” Da Gu bowed, ”This guy said he lost too much money gambling, and could only agree to help the other party with one task—today’s incident of knocking over your medical box.”

”Who instructed him? Did he mention why they targeted me?” Bai Ruozhu knew the truth would likely remain elusive, but she wanted to hear how She Zongyi organized this.

”He asked, and the person said...” Da Gu looked embarrassed, ”said he doesn’t like Zhongyuan people and wanted to cause you trouble.”

Bai Ruozhu raised her eyebrows, ”This excuse really is perfunctory.”

Luckily, she had prior foresight, placing many items inside the medical box. Otherwise, had it been publicly spilled, it would have confirmed she possessed an item capable of storing treasures?

Chances were high that She Zongyi orchestrated this because he still didn’t know what her treasure was.
