Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2508: Chapter 2509: Breaking the Leg

”Lord Bai, about this matter...” Lord Da Gu felt it was a bit difficult to handle. If this wasn’t investigated clearly, it would seem disrespectful to these noble guests from Zhongyuan.

”I’m not a petty person, and Lord Da doesn’t need to worry too much. It’s just that I’m afraid there might be some kind of spy involved. I’ve just cured the second prince’s illness, and I don’t know what this move is aimed at. You can report this matter to His Majesty for investigation, and we won’t meddle in it further,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Lord Da Gu’s expression changed several times, seeming to consider the matter more seriously. He hurriedly saluted Bai Ruozhu, ”Lord Bai, Lord Jiang, I will take my leave first to report this matter to His Majesty.”

Jiang Yichun returned the salute, ”Lord Da Gu, feel free to attend to your duties. You may take this person with you, and have our servants send the other items for us.”

”Alright, thank you.” Lord Da Gu saluted, instructed his subordinates to arrest the servant who had knocked over the medicine box, and hurriedly left.

Bai Ruozhu and her party exchanged glances without much conversation until they returned to the posthouse, where they started discussing the matter.

”I suspect it’s She Zongyi. He might have sent someone to hide in the shadows, probably wanting to see what’s inside my medicine box,” Bai Ruozhu said with a cold smile.

The group seemed to have different ideas. Tang Feng, Jiang Yichun, and Gao Zhou, who knew she possessed Space, immediately realized what She Zongyi was after, while Fo Lanying and others assumed he wanted to see the unique medicines in her box.

Teng Ya evidently had the same thought and quickly said, ”Madam, when I picked up the items just now, I counted them, and nothing was missing. However, some pills got dust on them; I’m not sure if that affects them.”

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”You are indeed meticulous and did a great job. I’ll go back and check the medicine to ensure nobody tampered with it.”

”Huh? But no one touched it just now. Could it still be tampered with?” Qiu Zhi asked, puzzled.

”You’re really dense. Think about it: what if someone had done something to the ground, causing the medicinal materials to pick up something bad like Poison Powder or something that affects their properties?” Tang Feng rolled his eyes at Qiu Zhi, thinking this young Daoist really doesn’t get out much.

Qiu Zhi scratched his head, ”These twists and turns are so complicated. If I went out alone, I’d definitely fall into someone else’s trap.”

His expression suddenly turned somber, ”Actually, I once had a senior brother who was supposed to be the next head of Dragon Tiger Gate, but he went out to help catch a Ghost once and never came back.”

Bai Ruozhu hadn’t expected Qiu Zhi to suddenly mention this and was puzzled, thinking perhaps the person no longer wanted to be a Daoist and decided to live freely.

Unexpectedly, Qiu Zhi continued, ”Later my master took me to search for him, only to find that he had been maliciously harmed. We searched everywhere and finally found his body at the Chaotic Burial Ground. It was only because of the injury on his shoulder and the Dragon Tiger Gate token on his body that we recognized him.”

Everyone was a bit moved and didn’t know what to say for a moment.

”My master was both grief-stricken and furious and immediately took me to investigate. That’s when we found out that my senior brother wasn’t killed by bandits but by the family he was helping to catch Ghosts for!” Qiu Zhi said, his eyes red with emotion. ”They were afraid my senior brother would expose their misdeeds, so they secretly tampered with the food. But my senior brother was a vegetarian and didn’t touch their food, only eating the dried food he brought with him, so they sent a servant to knock over his dried food.”

Bai Ruozhu suddenly understood, no wonder Qiu Zhi was so emotional. She sighed and said, ”What happened then? Did you help avenge him?”

”My master and I were both extremely angry. My master even said he wanted to wipe out the entire family, but in the end, he only killed the patriarch who plotted against my senior brother, and the steward, servant, and the Young Master who knew about it but assisted in the evil deed. He didn’t harm anyone else,” Qiu Zhi said with a note of respect, ”We have Sect Rules at Dragon Tiger Gate; even in his fury, my master had some compassion.”

Gao Zhou, who hadn’t spoken, suddenly asked, ”What kind of disgraceful business was that family involved in?”

Qiu Zhi’s face turned to anger, ”The patriarch was a pervert; an old man who enjoyed molesting underage girls, many of whom were tortured to death by him. The youngest was only eleven years old!”

The group exclaimed in shock and began cursing, with Lan Ying even gritting her teeth, ”Killing him just like that was too lenient!”

”So, my master performed a ceremony to make him experience being haunted by Ghosts and then helped those lost souls pass on. But because the girls’ resentment was so strong, my master suffered serious injuries and even lost half of his cultivation base. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have lost to...” He quickly glanced at Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu really hadn’t known about Qiu Daoist, but after hearing this story, her impression of him improved somewhat.

”Your master was indeed serving justice and did a good deed. But his focus on Master Pudeng stemmed from his obsession,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Unexpectedly, Qiu Zhi didn’t argue but nodded and said, ”My master eventually came to understand.”

”I didn’t expect that when I passed through Fuzhou a few years ago and heard the story of a high-ranking person eliminating evil, it turned out to be your master. It truly was a good deed,” Gao Zhou nodded as he spoke, as he respected Master Pudeng and was particularly displeased with Qiu Zhi’s master, but his view had now changed slightly.

After they all shared their sentiments, it wasn’t long before Sa Tian came to visit.

”Lord Bai, the soldiers sent by the General searched but found nothing. The informant tried to argue but was eventually whipped thirty times by the General, almost costing him his life,” Sa Tian said with a smile, his tone much lighter.

Bai Ruozhu breathed a sigh of relief, ”Luckily, Lord Xinye isn’t entirely foolish. He’s safe for now, and General Chisong hasn’t released him?”

”He has been released and said he will host a luncheon for him at noon. I came first to deliver the message,” Sa Tian said with a smile.

”It’s good that everything’s fine. Let him come here for a visit when convenient; I have something to ask him,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Jiang Yichun frowned slightly. He was somewhat displeased with Bai Ruozhu wanting to meet Xinye, but he knew his woman really had important business; otherwise, she wouldn’t have made a point of seeking Xinye.

So, by the next day, before Xinye could come over, Sa Tian came back with more news.

”Lord Bai, Lord Xinye has had his leg broken. Please hurry to check on him!” Sa Tian said in a rushed manner.

Bai Ruozhu was startled, ”Didn’t he just get out of prison? How did he end up with a broken leg?”

Jiang Yichun interjected, ”Does Fusang not have doctors? Find a doctor to look at him; it’s inconvenient for Ruozhu to go. Even if General Chisong knew, he wouldn’t be pleased, right?”

Sa Tian was taken aback, and after a moment said, ”Lord Jiang is sensibly cautious; I was too hasty.”
