Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2392: Chapter 2391: Worrisome Clear Skies

Bai Ruozhu began weaving the tale with trepidation.

”In the end, he started to become like a spider, for instance, he could emit spider silk from his palms, and he even grew spider legs on his back...”

Duannian’s mouth twitched, ”Spiders are really gross, aren’t they? But I’ve never been bitten by a fish.”

Bai Ruozhu was sweating profusely, ”The point isn’t here, okay? Besides, Spider-Man is really awesome.”

Of course, the part about growing spider legs on his back was a detail she threw in herself.

”The person was quite worried, but soon he discovered certain triggers, like he would only transform into Spider-Man at night, but not during the day. So I was wondering, if you were away from water, would there be any changes?” Bai Ruozhu continued fabricating.

Duannian was completely unmoved, ”I’ve tried before, nearly turning into dried fish. You saw yesterday’s surgery, my fish tail was almost drying up.”

”Or maybe clipping the tail fin might change your condition, otherwise, why not try it? Anyway, today we have to check the wound and apply medicine.” Bai Ruozhu suggested.

Without much thought, Duannian instantly agreed, as trying wouldn’t cost him anything.

But Bai Ruozhu was worried again; what if Duannian’s fish tail turned into legs, those would be bare legs, right? Seeing them wouldn’t be appropriate.

Although she quite enjoyed looking at handsome guys, a friend’s husband was off-limits; she certainly didn’t want to see Wa Wei’s man.

Thinking of this, Bai Ruozhu called Wa Wei to help, saying: ”Dry his tail, use the hourglass to record how long he can last now being away from water, this change is crucial for his future, try it once every day and record it.”

”Okay.” Wa Wei hastily replied.

”I’ll go prepare some medicine liquid for his wound care, I’ll be back soon.” After saying this, Bai Ruozhu left the room, assured that Wa Wei watching over things meant there would be no problems.

Bai Ruozhu rushed back to her room, Jiang Yichun immediately asked when she returned, ”How’s it going?”

”I told Wa Wei to watch him; it’s not appropriate for me to see him, what if he really changed, he’ll be naked.” Bai Ruozhu said hurriedly.

Jiang Yichun jumped up suddenly, ”You are not allowed to go, I’ll go and check it out.”

Bai Ruozhu scoffed, did he think she was willing to go? But she was really curious whether Duannian would grow legs after leaving water.

This curiosity was clawing at her heart like a cat.

Luckily, Bai Ruozhu was a person of restraint; she chose to distract herself by preparing medicine for Duannian.

Actually, the medicine was already prepared, she just formulated some anew.

By the time she finished, half an hour had passed.

Her heart tightened; surely, there should be an answer by now, right?

If Duannian couldn’t be away from water like before, wouldn’t his fish tail be all dry and painful by now?

She took the medicine and opened the room door; no matter what, she had to deliver the medicine.

At that moment, Jiang Yichun rushed over like a gust of wind.

”Ruozhu, it really worked!” Jiang Yichun said excitedly.

”His legs transformed?” Bai Ruozhu almost shouted.

”Yes, but there’s a layer of blue-green scales covering his legs, a bit strange. Wa Wei was anxious and went to find my dad, we’ve been examining him for a while, haven’t had time to call you.” Jiang Yichun explained.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, knowing she was not suited to be present.

”Also, he can’t stand up.” Jiang Yichun showed some regret.

”Probably because he’s not used to it. Didn’t you also struggle to balance and sink into the water?” Bai Ruozhu said quietly.

Jiang Yichun’s mouth twitched, could she not bring up his embarrassing incident from yesterday? His wife showed no mercy for him.

”I don’t know, my dad said it seemed like he didn’t have bones, but he’s not as dependent on water as before, which is a good result.” Jiang Yichun said.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, it meant Duannian and Wa Wei could be together more.

”Have you told your dad?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Jiang Yichun shook his head slightly, ”Haven’t found an opportunity yet.”

Bai Ruozhu noticed his demeanor, obviously not wanting to tell.

She didn’t ask any further; her man knew his limits.

Before Bai Ruozhu could find an opportunity to check on Duannian’s condition, Teng Ya ran over to her, saying: ”Madam, Grandpa Ding wants to see you, are you available now?”

”I’ll go see him; his health isn’t good so better for him not to move about.” Bai Ruozhu promptly left with Teng Ya, while Jiang Yichun was lost in thought in the room, contemplating his own tail transformation when encountering water.

When Bai Ruozhu arrived at Grandpa Ding’s room, she found the selected five people all present, each with worried faces, not knowing what happened.

”What’s going on, Grandpa Ding?” Bai Ruozhu stepped forward to ask.

Grandpa Ding sighed, saying: ”The weather has been sunny for a while, the sun quite intense, I checked, it seems like many days ahead will be clear skies, what should we do?”

Bai Ruozhu was puzzled, wasn’t a storm dangerous? Why fret about sunny weather?

Luckily, Grandpa Ding explained, ”The boat has limited fresh water storage, generally replenished through collected rainwater. But if it doesn’t rain for many days in a row, there will come a day when all the fresh water is exhausted, then we’ll be in trouble.”

Bai Ruozhu instantly felt the crisis; imagining survival without water for everyone on the boat.

”Previously, how did those official ships deal with such situations?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”There are usually a few approaches, start saving water throughout the ship, reducing overall fresh water usage. Alternatively, find an island to dock and replenish fresh water, or pray for rain from the heavens.” Grandpa Ding said, shaking his head, ”Also, from my memory, there aren’t good islands nearby to dock at.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but frown, ”Start saving water immediately; everyone including ourselves must lead by example.”

”We might find a deserted island nearby with some fresh water.” Bai Ruozhu suggested.

Grandpa Ding shook his head, ”Usually uninhabited due to the lack of fresh water.”

”We’ll look around first, hoping for rain soon.” Bai Ruozhu actually had a plan; even on the day of total water shortage, she had a way to last a few days, the water in her space’s fish pond could hold up for several days, but it’s not a sustainable solution.

Bai Ruozhu quickly gathered everyone and explained the gravity of the situation, hence the boat began a comprehensive water-saving campaign, apart from eating and drinking, no other use of fresh water was allowed, and everyone’s daily fresh water ration was halved.

Bai Ruozhu ensured not to cut down on the hardest-working sailors’ water supply, as they controlled the sails on the deck, constantly exposed to the sun, and drinking too little water could easily lead to dehydration.

Further, Bai Ruozhu contemplated how to purify fresh water herself; she thought of distillation, but deemed it impractical as firewood on the boat is also limited.

If they could find an island with vegetation, even without fresh water, they could figure out a way to distill some fresh water using fire, albeit very slowly.
