Chapter 2356: Chapter 2355: An Oversight Amidst the Frenzy

The elderly man in his sleep suddenly opened his eyes, his expression solemn, and said, ”This smell, the Sea Demon is here!”

Fang Luo awoke abruptly and hurriedly asked, ”What Sea Demon?”

”You quickly notify Ruozhu, tell them to bring people to prepare defense, definitely don’t let the Sea Demon aboard the ship!” The elderly man, because of his frailty, spoke quickly and started gasping.

Meanwhile, two of the five members of the Zhinan Group also woke up, hurriedly waking the others, ”It’s a Sea Demon! Quickly go notify Jiang Daren!”

Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun were not too nervous when they received the news. In light of the whale incident last time, Bai Ruozhu instinctively felt that ancients referred to large sea creatures as demons, but as for this Sea Demon, who knows what it actually is.

At this moment, a scream rang out from the deck, Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun exchanged a glance and hurriedly rushed to the deck.

Under the moonlight, a gigantic tentacle wrapped around a person, suddenly flinging them out to the distance.

”Damn it!” Bai Ruozhu called out, realizing that even someone skilled in water couldn’t survive being flung and dazed, only to end up drowning.

”I’ll organize skilled ship workers to rescue him,” Mo Beishan said.

Teng Liu stepped forward, ”Master, I’ve been on the boat for years, am quite adept in water, let me lead people to save him.”

Rescue is dangerous work too, especially with strong winds and waves at sea. Bai Ruozhu quickly glanced at Teng Ya and her mother; both were worried, but the determination replaced the expression on Teng Ya’s mother’s face, who nodded at Teng Liu.

Bai Ruozhu felt a tinge of emotion in her heart; the Teng Liu family was truly admirable.

Rescue should not be delayed, Teng Liu gathered two proficient swimmers, quickly descended the ropes from the other side of the ship. Bai Ruozhu noticed they were barefoot, their hands and feet agile, understanding why most people on the boat were barefoot.

At this moment, the gigantic tentacle rolled toward the deck again, Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun simultaneously charged forward.

One held a dagger sharp as mud, the other wielded a keen treasure sword, yet as they simultaneously struck the seemingly soft tentacle, it remained unharmed!

Standing elevated, Bai Ruozhu finally saw the true form of the ”Sea Demon” described by the ship workers—a gigantic octopus!

Or perhaps octopus was not entirely accurate, its tentacles seemed more than eight. Several adhered to the ship’s side, and two extended onto the ship to attack people. Due to the night, Bai Ruozhu couldn’t confirm its color, somewhat black, yet seemingly dark rust-red.

But Bai Ruozhu only saw the tentacles until now, not its head and face, likely hidden beneath the ship.

”Jiang Yichun, Elder Ding said earlier, this thing is very strong, its tentacles are highly agile, also poisonous, contact will paralyze you, though it’s definitely afraid of fire.” Fang Luo ran up from the ship cabin, shouting at Jiang Yichun.

Bai Ruozhu’s eyes lit up, calling out to Qiu Zhi, ”It’s your turn to shine, aren’t you fond of slaying demons? Quickly use your Dragon Tiger Gate’s Fire Talisman.”

”Okay, I’m on it!” Qiu Zhi replied with confidence, finally his chance to show off.

He propelled himself up the mast with his light technique, swiftly retrieving a talisman, chanting a curse as he threw it at the Sea Demon’s tentacles.

With a clatter, the Sea Demon’s tentacle ignited upon contact with the talisman, proving far more effective than swords.

A piercing screech arose from beneath the ship, a wail from the ”Giant Octopus,” its tentacle laced with fire writhing in agony, fiercely slapping the deck.

”Everyone move away!” Bai Ruozhu urgently shouted, fearing an ordinary person struck by that flaming tentacle would perish instantly.

”Not good!” Jiang Yichun exclaimed, leaping forward, slicing a tentacle fiercely. Without his interference, the flaming tentacle may have struck the mast, potentially burning the sails.

Qiu Zhi barely had time to relish before spotting a greater peril; should the ship suffer extensive damage, everyone aboard would be at risk.

Not daring to be careless, he leaped off the ship, grabbed hold of the ropes on the ship’s side, shouting at the tentacle monster, ”I’m over here.”

But alas, the tentacle monster had some level of intelligence, paying him no heed, wailing whilst attacking the mast, Mo Beishan and others hurriedly stepped in to assist, Yuan Licheng and Yizi promptly set up a Defensive Array, securing the ship somewhat.

”Qiu Zhi, keep burning it!” Bai Ruozhu shouted loudly.

Qiu Zhi wasted no time, unleashing several more talismans, burning the tentacles more fiercely, unleashing a charred smell, somewhat reminiscent of grilled squid.

On the other side, Teng Liu and his team successfully rescued the person, returning shivering yet safe.

However, the first person to fall into the water was in bad shape, fortunately, Gao Zhou hurried over to perform emergency rescue, allowing him to sputter out water and regain breathing.

This time the tentacle monster could no longer attack the mast, and with the strong ship body, it struggled to destroy anything, eventually fleeing with a scream. Before leaving, Jiang Yichun severed two flaming tentacles, surprisingly, they were much easier to cut after being burned.

The severed tentacles trembled slightly on the deck, some timid people screamed in terror, Bai Ruozhu quickly cut them into large chunks with her dagger.

”What kind of monster is this indeed, if not for our numbers, it would have been tough to handle,” Qiu Zhi remarked upon returning to the deck.

”In fact, it isn’t a demon per se, but a deep-sea beast. The depths harbor many unknown species we’ve never seen, some possess great aggression, we have to be more cautious,” Bai Ruozhu said.

As she spoke, she noticed Fang Luo still on the deck; her expression suddenly changed, ”Why is no one accompanying Elder Ding? Let’s quickly go check on him.”

Her heart was filled with a foreboding premonition, she was the first to rush into the ship cabin, charging towards the room where Fang Luo and his group stayed.

”Elder Ding!” Bai Ruozhu burst into the room, indeed finding the elderly unconscious; she hurriedly went to check his pulse.

”How is he?” Jiang Yichun also came over.

”Poisoned,” Bai Ruozhu’s expression was grave, ”Not extremely difficult to cure poison, but Elder Ding’s physical condition is terrible, now he’s sick on top of being sick.”

As she spoke, she began acupuncture, her hands did not dare pause for a moment.

Fang Luo’s face looked awful beside her, head bowed he said, ”It was my negligence.”

”Can’t blame you, you came to deliver messages on the deck, I should have arranged more people,” Bai Ruozhu said with some regret.

”Don’t worry, we’ll find a way, Elder Ding will be alright,” Jiang Yichun calmly consoled.

Bai Ruozhu gave him a signal, ”You all go out first, I need to treat him with acupuncture, can’t be disturbed at all. You all hurry to investigate, the poisoner is one of those on this boat, they definitely can’t escape, must be the same person who coerced the kitchen maid into poisoning!”
