Chapter 2377: Chapter 2376: Giant Sea Monster

”Why are you crying? This is not a serious illness. Madam Liu’s fever is just an isolated case. Don’t worry too much, we caught it early and treated it promptly; she will get better soon.” Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but think back to when she went to treat the plague. Everyone was in despair, and there were cries and wails everywhere.

She couldn’t help but feel a bit heartbroken, and continued, ”I have cured the plague patients of Guangqi Town before; that was an epidemic, there won’t be any issues. Rest assured about this minor illness.”

”Thank you, Bai.” A kitchen maid said as she wiped her eyes.

Bai Ruozhu glared and said, ”I told you not to rub your eyes with your hands. Why did you forget again?”

Her voice was especially stern, just like a doctor educating a patient. The kitchen maid quickly put her hand down but felt warm inside.

”I won’t rub anymore; I’ll definitely remember this time.”

”Alright, hurry up and rest. You don’t need to work these two days. Let’s focus on getting better first,” Bai Ruozhu finished, then instructed the Kitchen overseer to monitor Madam Liu’s temperature before she left.

Madam Liu also began to cry, reaching out to wipe her tears, but remembering Bai Ruozhu’s instructions, she quickly put down her hand and said with a choked voice, ”Bai is truly a good person. If it were before, Officer Zheng would have probably thrown me into the sea.”

”Exactly, last year when we went out to sea, Ameng, who was laboring, had a scraped arm that festered, then he got a fever and developed boils. Didn’t Officer Zheng just toss him overboard?” Someone joined in.

Bai Ruozhu hadn’t walked far. With her keen hearing, she clearly heard the conversation, which made her even more sympathetic to the ship workers.

When she returns to Danliang, she is determined to write a memorial to the Emperor, to properly regulate the order on official ships, for fear that Zheng Xin isn’t the only one behaving this way.

The Ameng they mentioned likely had a wound infection causing the fever and skin ulceration. The ship has common medications prepared, and if he was treated right after his injury, such a situation would be greatly reduced.

Seeing their recent reaction, Bai Ruozhu already guessed their previous treatment, and she couldn’t help but feel some regret in her heart.

Over the next two days, indeed, several people developed conjunctivitis, but thankfully it was discovered early, and with everyone educated about hygiene, the condition was quickly brought under control.

A few people also developed fevers, but fortunately, Bai Ruozhu had already prepared medication and emergency measures, so none of the feverish patients suffered any mishaps.

On the third night, however, a storm suddenly arose from the sea, jolting Bai Ruozhu awake from her nightmare, filling her heart with an uneasy feeling.

”What’s wrong?” Jiang Yichun woke up, worriedly asked.

Bai Ruozhu reached out to entwine her fingers with his, apologetically saying, ”Probably a nightmare, and I woke you up with it.”

Jiang Yichun smiled at her, and for a moment, it was as if an entire grove of flowers bloomed.

”How are you going to compensate me? Since we’re awake, let’s do something?” He said mischievously.

Bai Ruozhu’s face flushed with heat, though her heart still palpitated with unease, she glared at him and said, ”Don’t mess around, I’ve got a bad feeling.”

Jiang Yichun set aside the playful demeanor because he knew his wife wasn’t joking; perhaps tonight wouldn’t be peaceful.

Suddenly, Qiu Zhi’s voice came from outside: ”Master, come quickly, there’s a Sea Demon! It’s really a Sea Demon, a huge one!”

Qiu Zhi was so terrified that his voice cracked.

”Let’s go have a look.” Jiang Yichun got up swiftly, put on his outerwear and shoes, grabbed his sword, and went out.

Bai Ruozhu also donned an outer coat, quickly tied her hair into a bun, secured it with the silver hairpin Jiang Yichun gave her, and followed out.

Gao Zhou, Mo Beishan, and Tang Feng also arrived quickly, but as everyone saw the thing beside the ship, their faces suddenly changed with shock.

”What the hell is that!” Gao Zhou completely lost his dignified image as a Divine Doctor and shouted in surprise.

Bai Ruozhu was frightened too, an enormous eye appeared beside the ship’s edge, and the eye was bigger than a human!

Since the weather was bad, the moon hid behind the clouds, and the deck lights were out. As they went out, all they could see was darkness, with the huge eye emitting a glowing green light, making it extremely conspicuous.

”What kind of demon is this?” Tang Feng hurriedly asked Qiu Zhi, he no longer wanted to consider the marine creatures he had seen in his previous life.

Qiu Zhi, looking ghastly pale, said, ”How would I know? But it surely is a demon.”

The monster let out a sharp cry, making everyone cover their ears. Though Jiang Yichun stood in front of Bai Ruozhu, he could not shield her against the sound; it was indeed ear-piercing.

”Mo Beishan, have people light more torches, those proficient in light flying should come close but be cautious and dodge carefully.” Jiang Yichun instructed.

Mo Beishan arranged for people to do so, but just then, with a boom, something fell on the ship, causing the vessel to suddenly shake violently, nearly making those on deck lose balance.

Bai Ruozhu was startled, ”No, if this continues, it could capsize the ship.”

”Bai Ruozhu, Elder Ding says it’s the scent of the Midnight Sea Monster!” Fang Luo’s voice came from below the Ship Cabin, and Bai Ruozhu quickly realized Elder Ding referred to the previous appearances of a similar octopus-like deep-sea monster!

At this point, the torches were lit up, bringing some visibility. The next moment, a huge tentacle slammed onto the ship, breaking one side of the ship’s edge.

”Damn, so big!” Yuan Licheng shouted in fright, he dared not delay any longer, swiftly arranging an array with Yizi still trembling in fear, yet gritting her teeth to help with the arrangement.

Without a defensive array, the ship would be smashed by this large monster.

Bai Ruozhu, supporting her forehead, couldn’t help but mutter, ”Along with the previous octopus? Could deep-sea monsters also large and small, young ones come seeking revenge?”

”It looks similar to last time but several times larger, let’s try the fire attack first.” Jiang Yichun said, turning to Qiu Zhi, ”It’s your showtime, use the Fire Talisman.”

Qiu Zhi quickly composed himself, recited the spell of Dragon Tiger Gate, and launched a talisman towards the giant eye.

Bai Ruozhu nodded inwardly, Qiu Zhi wasn’t foolish after all, knowing to attack the vital points.

Unfortunately, before the fire talisman reached, it was quickly deflected by the monster’s huge tentacle; the talisman ignited the tentacle, yet the monster was so large that the fire seemed like merely scratching an itch.

”Let’s go!” Bai Ruozhu shouted and jumped in; her target was the spot on the monster’s tentacle previously touched by the fire talisman, she wanted to see if she could inflict substantive damage.

Before Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun reached, two other tentacles simultaneously rose, and fiercely smashed towards the deck.

”Array is still forming, hold on for a while!” Yuan Licheng yelled.

He had set an array on the ship earlier, but many materials needed were prepared on-site; those planned in advance often became ineffective.

”Be careful!” Bai Ruozhu suddenly screamed.
