Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2376: Chapter 2375: No One Has Ever Treated Us This Well

Gao Zhou and the others came upon hearing the news. Gao Zhou was a doctor in modern times, so he completely agreed with Bai Ruozhu’s approach.

Tang Feng looked terrified and said, ”When I was in elementary school, classmates spread it to me, and eventually almost half the class got sick. The school simply gave a week off.”

The others were confused by what they heard, such as ”elementary school” and ”classmates.” Why were the Champion’s words so peculiar?

”This isn’t a serious illness, but it’s terrifying when it spreads. I certainly don’t want to come on deck one day and see everyone with red eyes; one might think it’s a disaster movie.” Bai Ruozhu sighed and said, ”Moreover, there’s bad news: the conjunctivitis on the boat is more severe than what we have encountered before, both in terms of its contagiousness and its impact on human health.”

”It’s a kind of virus; could there be a similar poison?” Gao Zhou asked, as he wasn’t very familiar with the use of poisons.

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, ”It doesn’t seem like someone is poisoning anyone; the boat is damp and hot, and with water being scarce, the outbreak of bacteria and viruses is normal.”

Wa Wei and the other two listened in shock. They hadn’t heard of these things before; it seems there’s still much to learn.

Having said enough, everyone discussed and divided their tasks accordingly.

Bai Ruozhu took three apprentices to prepare preventive decoction and medicines for oral administration and eye drops for the patients. Gao Zhou was responsible for examining those on the boat, quickly discovering other patients and temporarily isolating them.

Jiang Yichun and Fang Luo were responsible for guidance and watching over the people on the boat to prevent anyone from taking advantage of the chaos. Meanwhile, Fo Lanying and Yuan Licheng were responsible for conducting hygiene education for the people on the boat.

Soon everyone got busy. Bai Ruozhu first led the three apprentices to the storeroom to gather medicines and asked someone to cook the medicine soup for cleaning and preventing eye disease, then had it sent to the deck. Jiang Yichun arranged for people on the boat to go to the deck in batches, receiving medicine and hygiene education before letting the next batch come up.

After preparing the eye drops and oral medicine, Bai Ruozhu had them delivered to Mother Liu and others who showed signs of infection.

”Sister Ruozhu, do we need to prepare so much medicine? Aren’t there just a dozen people infected?” Wa Wei saw Bai Ruozhu working so hard that sweat was dripping, yet she refused to stop, particularly with the eye drops she insisted on preparing herself. Wa Wei was concerned she would exhaust herself.

”Don’t just look at the dozen or so infected; that’s only an initial count.” Bai Ruozhu sighed, ”Didn’t I tell Mother Liu that this illness has an incubation period? It’s hard to detect during the incubation period, so it will take two to three days to see how many people are truly infected. Additionally, using medicine can only reduce the chance of transmission, not isolate it completely, so there may be more infections later.”

When evening came, Bai Ruozhu divided the medicine liquid because the production was limited. She first distributed it to the Kitchen staff, which made Li Jin dissatisfied when he failed to obtain the eye drops; he couldn’t understand why, as an official of the Shipping Department, he was lesser than the Kitchen servants. Lord Bai seemed to disregard him.

Unfortunately, what he didn’t know was that in Bai Ruozhu’s eyes, a patient is a patient, regardless of status.

Of course, Li Jin only grumbled to himself; he had witnessed Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun’s formidable nature and wouldn’t dare to provoke them easily. Just look at what happened to Zheng Xin.

Reflecting on this, Li Jin discreetly rubbed white wine on his hands, because Lord Bai said alcohol can disinfect...

In the room, Jiang Yichun gently massaged Bai Ruozhu’s shoulders and tenderly rubbed her hands, saying, ”How about you tell me what to do and I’ll do it tomorrow?”

”No way, your hands are meant for wielding a sword. At times like these, we cannot afford to relax; you must keep a close watch on the boat.” Bai Ruozhu replied.

In truth, she worried for her man; he didn’t like fiddling with medicinal materials. Although he had learned medical skills to treat injuries and stop bleeding for survival, he really did not enjoy it. She couldn’t bear to make him do something he disliked. Who said she didn’t care for her man? She cared for him silently.

Jiang Yichun smiled, switched hands, and continued to massage her, ”Then let me help you grind the medicine; you’re working so hard.”

”I have three apprentices, don’t fight with them for work. They finally have a chance to intern; if you compete with them, they’ll end up crying secretly.” Bai Ruozhu joked.

Jiang Yichun couldn’t help but laugh, ”Alright, I’ll do as you say.”

They chatted for a while longer before laying down to sleep.

Just after sleeping for less than two hours, there was a knock at the door outside, and Teng Ya’s voice sounded cautiously and nervously, ”Madam, Mother Liu has a fever and is speaking nonsensically.”

Bai Ruozhu woke with a start; she had been worried that some patients might develop additional symptoms, so she arranged for someone to watch over and notify her regardless of the time. To facilitate getting up in the middle of the night, she hadn’t even removed her clothes.

”I’ll go with you to check.” Jiang Yichun got up, but Bai Ruozhu pressed him down, ”You need to sleep a bit; you’ll be busy during the day. Besides, don’t get too close, you might catch it, and I don’t want to see you with red eyes.”

”No way, if you go down alone, I won’t be at ease.” Jiang Yichun was adamant this time, not listening to her, getting up to put on his shoes and stepping out the door first.

Bai Ruozhu shook her head helplessly, not bothering to argue with him, and followed Teng Ya to the ship cabin.

The Kitchen steward stood outside Mother Liu’s room, looking anxious. Upon seeing Bai Ruozhu, he asked, ”Lord Bai, could it be that because the sick people are together, the illness gets worse?”

”No, this eye infection virus is peculiar; it can bring on other symptoms, like a fever.” Bai Ruozhu said while checking Mother Liu’s condition, immediately asking for a cloth to administer physical cooling.

Bai Ruozhu took a medicine pill and dissolved it in water, waking up Mother Liu and personally feeding her.

Mother Liu, still somewhat delirious, realized that Bai Ruozhu was helping her with the medicine after drinking half a bowl. Shocked, she said nervously, ”Lord Bai, this isn’t right; don’t let me pass the infection to you!”

Bai Ruozhu smiled at her, ”Don’t worry; I’m immune.”

Nearby patients who were also awakened gazed at Bai Ruozhu’s actions with their red eyes, all deeply moved.

They were merely servants on the boat, and when they got sick, no one cared. If Zheng Xin had been the helmsman, those who got sick would have been thrown overboard to feed the fish to prevent infection.

But Lord Bai not only treated them but also came personally in the dead of night to administer medicine. No one had ever been so kind to them.

For a moment, some felt their eyes hurt, and tears involuntarily fell. They had red eyes, making it hard to tell if they were crying. It wasn’t until Bai Ruozhu asked Mother Liu to lie down and rest that she noticed the sobbing in the room.
