Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2368: Chapter 2367: Misjudged Her

Liu Si’s wife looked at Bai Ruozhu in shock and asked, ”Didn’t you say he was fine? How could he still lose his life?”

Bai Ruozhu’s face turned grim, ”I’m not trying to scare you, but a head injury is always serious. Now that the wound has been torn open again, it’s like aggravating the injury. If not careful, it could lead to death.”

Liu Si’s wife started to cry bitterly, ”Who is the heartless person doing this to my husband Liu Si? If there’s a grievance, come after me directly, what kind of skill is it to stab someone in the back?”

Wa Shu listened anxiously and hastily called several women to console Liu Si’s family, also instructing nearby neighbors to take extra care of Liu Si’s family.

Afterwards, he nervously said to Bai Ruozhu, ”Sir Bai, everyone on our island are honest folks. If Liu Si is fine, let’s leave it at that to avoid complications.”

Bai Ruozhu suddenly stared at him and asked, ”Without rules, nothing can be done properly. Is this how the village chief manages Luili Island?”

”Well...” Wa Shu cried out in distress; surely, he wouldn’t distinguish right from wrong this way, but this time it’s about the witch doctor, and he must be cautious.

”The witch doctor is here, the witch doctor is here!” Someone outside shouted.

Bai Ruozhu frowned. How dare this person come here? Truly fearless.

The witch doctor quickly approached, glancing at the unconscious and pale Liu Si, her expression changed.

She pointed at Liu Si, screaming at Bai Ruozhu, her expression full of skepticism, as if questioning why Bai Ruozhu hadn’t healed him.

Bai Ruozhu coldly stared at her, ”Liu Si’s wife left for a while, and someone tore Liu Si’s wound open. I wonder who’s so evil!”

The witch doctor widened her eyes and quickly understood Bai Ruozhu’s implication, angrily pointing at Bai Ruozhu, screaming for a long time, but could only make ’ah ah’ sounds.

In frustration, she started jumping and swiftly picked up a tree branch to write on the ground.

”I came to see Liu Si. Heaven and earth as my witness, how could I harm him? Isn’t it you making excuses for failing to treat him? Sewing human flesh with needle and thread, how could there not be a problem?”

The witch doctor scribbled a lengthy passage rapidly, making Bai Ruozhu’s neck sore from reading it. She truly felt too merciful towards the witch doctor, thinking maybe she should just let her go insane.

Thinking about it, her fingertips slightly moved, and fine powder floated into the witch doctor’s mouth.

”If my medical skills had issues, why was everyone recovering days ago but suddenly bleeding now? Clearly, someone wants trouble with me, choosing Liu Si as a target.” Bai Ruozhu stated.

Before the witch doctor could write, her face suddenly contorted, drooling and screaming madly.

The surrounding people were startled, and just as someone tried to support her, she grabbed and bit them hard.

”Heavens, what’s wrong with the witch doctor, why is she going mad biting people?” Wa Wei exclaimed in shock, ”Sir Bai, should you have a look at her?”

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, ”I can’t help her. Let her rest and calm down.”

Several people went up and after a lot of effort managed to subdue the witch doctor and take her back to her place.

Wa Shu said with a worried expression, ”What’s wrong lately? The Holy Spring dried up, the witch doctor’s acting odd, could the island really be in trouble?”

Bai Ruozhu said nothing, prescribed some medicine for Liu Si, and left.

Jiang Yichun and the others already knew what had happened, but since there were many people, Bai Ruozhu did not mention poisoning the witch doctor when she went back.

”It’s strange, the witch doctor wouldn’t harm the islanders.” Old Ding suddenly spoke, ”As I know, Luili Island’s witch doctors are passed down through generations, but not within families directly. Instead, the island’s most outstanding women learn from the old witch doctor to succeed her position. It’s said if they harm their own, they’ll face divine punishment.”

Bai Ruozhu felt these words couldn’t serve as evidence; divine punishment is merely a saying, and anyone could have ill intentions.

While they were speaking, Wa Wei rushed in anxiously.

”Sir Bai, Fu family’s second aunt just said after the witch doctor left Liu Si’s house, she took the witch doctor to see a patient, and in between, the witch doctor didn’t go anywhere. Liu Si’s wife also said when the witch doctor left Liu Si’s house, he was fine.” Wa Wei said hurriedly, still slightly out of breath, ”If it wasn’t the witch doctor, then who? Might they harm Liu Si again?”

Bai Ruozhu’s face changed slightly, could she have misunderstood the witch doctor?

”Do you think Fu family’s second aunt might be helping the witch doctor forge evidence?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”No, she swore an oath.” Wa Wei replied.

Jiang Yichun went over and patted Bai Ruozhu’s shoulder, ”I think I know who it is.”

”You mean...” Bai Ruozhu regretted, as the witch doctor’s actions had annoyed her, leading to preconceived notions and affecting her judgment. Poisoning the witch doctor and making her go mad seemed too much.

Wa Wei, unsure who they meant, eagerly asked, ”Who? Did you already guess?”

”It shouldn’t be someone from your island. I’ll send someone to protect Liu Si. You go back and tell your grandpa.” Jiang Yichun said.

”Alright, I’ll go right now.” Wa Wei turned and ran off.

Bai Ruozhu rubbed her temples, took out a small bottle of medicine, and handed it to Jianqi, ”Later, quietly detoxify the witch doctor. Don’t let anyone find out.”

”Yes.” Jianqi replied.

”You mean the person who poisoned me on the boat?” Old Ding asked.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”He seemed to cause trouble occasionally, by aggravating Liu Si’s injury, making islanders doubt me.”

”I feel he’s more specifically targeting you.” Old Ding said, ”Perhaps your enemy?”

”He hides so secretly but misses chances to attack me, also strange.” Bai Ruozhu thought if someone hated her that deeply, they should seize the opportunity to trap her.

Jiang Yichun clenched his fist tightly, ”No matter whose enemy he is, this time we must uncover him!”

...

Late at night, Wa Wei quietly left her house. Passing by the witch doctor’s home, she still heard cursing inside, smirked secretly, not believing in the witch doctor because if she were capable, her father wouldn’t have died.

Tiptoeing, she cautiously made her way towards the beach. After walking a short distance, she quickly turned her head, scrutinizing her surroundings, evidently very cautious.

The seaside echoed with the sound of waves crashing onto the beach, and not far away, gentle sounds of water splashing emerged. Wa Wei’s face broke into a smile as she hurriedly followed the sound.

”Why have you come again? What if you get caught?” Her voice had a tone of chiding but couldn’t hide her subtle joy.

A young man floated in the water, smiling at her with neat teeth, under the moonlight he resembled a sea sprite.

”I came to see if you’ve been crying.” The young man’s voice was light yet melodious.
