Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2329: Chapter 2328: Highway Robbery

The group immediately left Xunyang City, Bai Ruozhu felt a bit bad for not saying goodbye to Tang Feng, so he wrote a letter at the next post station and sent it to Xunyang City.

Since leaving home, Fang Luo hadn’t spoken a word. Bai Ruozhu was a bit worried and hinted for Jiang Yichun to talk to him, but Jiang Yichun, having a cold nature, just casually said, ”It’s fine.”

That evening, the group found an inn to stay, and while gathered for dinner, Bai Ruozhu worried that Fang Luo was too unfamiliar with everyone and struck up a conversation with him, but the dialogue was as follows:

”Fang Luo, have your bloodline awakened?”

”Mhm.”

”Noticed any special abilities?”

”No.”

”What’s your birth month?”

”Ten months left.”

”How’s your martial arts?”

”Average.”

...

Eventually, Bai Ruozhu also felt powerless, the longest thing he said was that he had ten months left to live; is this person unwilling to talk, or just can’t communicate?

Yizi also curiously asked, ”Your mother’s illusory realm was amazing, even my array-breaking method didn’t work.”

”Oh.” Fang Luo replied even more simply.

Yizi felt a bit embarrassed and chose not to say anything further.

Soon the meal was over, and everyone returned to their rooms; the night watch was assigned to Jianqi and Qiu Zhilun alternately.

The next morning, Qiu Zhiyi shamefully said to Bai Ruozhu, ”Master, I was on watch last night, but accidentally fell asleep. When I woke, I found Fang Luo was helping me keep watch. As soon as he saw I awoke, he quietly returned to his room.”

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”So Fang Luo may seem indifferent on the surface, but actually has a sense of responsibility and knows how to care for others.”

Qiu Zhi nodded, ”I also wanted to say that, worried everyone would misunderstand his arrogance.”

”Then you should talk to him more in future, he’s not familiar with others, pay extra attention to him,” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Alright, I understand.” Qiu Zhi agreed earnestly, he was young and had a baby-face, seriously nodding made him seem like a well-behaved little boy, making Bai Ruozhu laugh.

Jiang Yichun came downstairs and saw this scene, feeling somewhat displeased, thinking this Qiu Zhi kid sure needs some discipline.

Afterwards, everyone checked out and continued their journey on horseback. Passing a mountain ridge, Jiang Yichun noticed something unusual.

”Everyone be careful, there might be bandits,” he said solemnly.

Qiu Zhi lowered his head and said, ”What’s there to fear with bandits, I can scare them away with a charm.”

Bai Ruozhu gave him a disapproving look, ”Never be careless when out and about, even with bandits, we must be cautious.”

”Yes, yes.” Qiu Zhi hurriedly replied.

As they spoke, a group of bandits charged out from hiding, wielding swords and axes, rushing toward them.

”This road was opened by me, and this tree planted by me, if you want to pass, leave your money for the road!” someone hollered fiercely, though the line was quite cliché.

”There are people daring to rob us; later on, give them a lesson.” Jiang Yichun sneered.

”Oh, we have a few who can’t see well, brothers, get them!” the bandit leader shouted, and the group of bandits charged at Bai Ruozhu and others.

In less time than it takes to drink a cup of tea, all the previously shouting bandits fell to the ground, each one groaning painfully, including the leading man who clutched his stomach because Fang Luo had kicked him.

”Nowadays mountain bandits are so rampant, might as well send you all to the government office,” Jiang Yichun sneered.

The leader groaned and said, ”This has nothing to do with my brothers, I’m in urgent need of money and dragged them along. Just capture me for the government, give them a chance.”

”Chief, we’re brothers, sharing fortune and hardship. What’s all this talk? Is it just round in prison? At least there’s food!” A burly man said, laughing.

Bai Ruozhu tugged on Jiang Yichun’s sleeve and quietly said, ”They don’t seem like mountain bandits, this area is too close to the Capital City; how can there be many mountain bandits?”

Jiang Yichun nodded slightly, also noticing something suspicious, but no matter their identity, they were robbing in broad daylight, they must face punishment.

”Jianqi, tie them all up and deliver them to the government office,” Bai Ruozhu said.

The leader’s expression changed slightly. Jiang Yichun thought he was scared, deliberately saying, ”Who are you people? As long as someone speaks clearly, I will spare their life.”

Unexpectedly no one opened their mouth, each clenching their teeth, showing great loyalty.

”Let them go, this was all my doing,” the leader sighed heavily, saying, ”My name is Wu Ke, I’m the escort leader of Jinmen Escort Agency...”

”Boss, you can’t say that! What about the escort agency?” A young man with a thin face called out.

The leader shook his head, ”We’re at this point, if you’re all caught, what’s the use of the agency? I’ve brought bad luck, the agency’s never had good fortune under me, I’m the one who implicated everyone.”

After speaking, he suddenly knelt and kowtowed to Jiang Yichun, saying resolutely, ”They’re not mountain bandits, just my escort agency’s escort masters. Because my wife is pregnant and poisoned by a poisonous insect, I urgently need a large sum of money to hire a poison expert to cure her. In desperation, I chose this action. They’ve never done anything wicked, just wanted to help me. Please only send me alone to the government office!”

”Boss, what nonsense! You go to the government office, what about sister-in-law? She’s waiting for you to save her!” The others called out one after another.

Bai Ruozhu watched them, increasingly feeling they’re not mountain bandits, but how could ordinary people be poisoned?

”Did you offend any poison masters?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”We always take escorts north, never south, and never encountered poison masters. But my wife was pregnant, soon her face turned dark, unconscious, I sought medical help everywhere to no avail until an old doctor said she might be poisoned by a poisonous insect.” Wu Ke, seeing Bai Ruozhu had no malice, explained honestly.

”I was desperate, when an elder poison master came to our agency, saying he heard my wife’s condition from doctors outside. He looked at her and said we just needed the right medicinal materials to resolve the poison, not only would my wife be fine, but the baby inside would be unharmed. However, he said the materials are precious and hard to find, needing ten thousand silver.”

Wu Ke revealed a pained expression, ”Even selling the agency wouldn’t yield more than a few thousand, far from enough, and where would I find a buyer quickly? Thus I thought of the robbers we often encountered on escorts...”
