Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2304: Chapter 2303: Dare to Undergo a Purity Test

Bai Ruozhu smiled nonchalantly, ”I’m not an unmarried woman, and on top of that I am a doctor, so there’s nothing to avoid. However, as a doctor, I do assess people, and Lao Wan, no matter how you look at her, doesn’t seem like someone who hasn’t shared a bed. Which of the elders present can also take a look to prevent me from being accused of speaking nonsense.”

Bai Ruozhu wasn’t speaking recklessly; it was due to her keen sense of smell. Lao Wan’s scent had changed, no longer the refreshing scent of a maiden, but slightly tinged with wantonness. She even suggested she was just a decoration, colluding with Du Zhongshu, claiming Du Zhongshu was too passionate to touch her, portraying herself as pitiable?

”Lord Bai, how can you treat me like this? I, I...” Lao Wan suddenly struggled free from the maid holding her, ”I’d rather die!”

Saying this, she rushed towards the pillar in the house, causing the onlookers to exclaim in surprise. Was there going to be a tragic scene today?

Unfortunately, Lao Wan couldn’t be faster than Fo Lanying, who was quite adept at martial arts. It wouldn’t be appropriate for a man to grab her, but Fo Lanying had no such reservations. She not only held back Lao Wan but also pinched her fiercely and said, ”Is Lao Yi Niang dying to prove her innocence, or is she trying to escape shameful deeds by choosing death?”

At this moment, sure enough, a curious person spoke up, ”That woman definitely isn’t a maiden anymore. I, as an old man, have a knack for judging people.” After speaking, he laughed slyly.

Fo Lanying feigned surprise, ”Ah? Lao Yi Niang didn’t consummate her marriage with Duke Du, yet she’s not a maiden. What is going on here?”

Yuan Licheng looked at Du Zhongshu and said cooperatively, ”Is it that you’re unwilling to touch her because of this? Or perhaps you did, and Yi Niang forgot?”

Du Zhongshu’s face turned red and white in anger. If he admitted he slept with Lao Wan, he couldn’t continue his act. Not admitting it would imply he’s being cuckolded.

”Lady Bai, let’s settle our grievances by ourselves and not implicate innocent people. Miss Lao has already been pitifully shuffled around by you.” Du Zhongshu spoke with an empathetic face.

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”Your words sound as if I’m slandering her. This matter could be big or small. As the leader of the Medical Alliance, Bai Ruozhu definitely won’t carry this reputation. Since that’s the case, send people to find the midwives commonly used by the Government Office to examine Lao Yi Niang and see if she is still a maiden!”

The earlier-speaking lecherous old man said, ”She definitely isn’t anymore. Everyone knows me; how could I be bribed?”

Lao Wan looked sorrowful, ”Lord Bai, why do you insist on driving me to death?”

”Don’t pin such a big hat on me. Before I arrived, didn’t you want to die? Why is it now that I’ve become the one forcing you to death? Wasn’t your previous claim to want death false? I’m just verifying my judgment, so you can’t call it slander and then blame your demise on me. I recall someone publicly declared their heart was dead.” Bai Ruozhu said, giving Fo Lanying a look, and Fo Lanying directly sealed Lao Wan’s acupoint, allowing her to speak but not move.

”What have you done to me? Let me go!” Lao Wan shouted and cried.

”You’re seeking death, so sealing your acupoints will stop you from doing something foolish. Otherwise, relying on your family’s few weak maids who can’t pull you, don’t know how many times you’ve died.” Fo Lanying said, looking puzzled as she muttered, ”Lao Wenshu’s maids haven’t eaten; they have no strength at all.”

Bai Ruozhu slyly chuckled, thinking Fo Lanying was rather in sync with her, at least in terms of backhandedness.

”Duke Du, should I go now to invite someone to verify the body, what do you think?” Bai Ruozhu provocatively looked at Du Zhongshu.

Du Zhongshu was so angry that he clenched his fist hidden in his sleeve, face showing a look of painful hesitation, ”Lady Bai, can’t you spare an innocent girl?”

”How is sparing her? If the midwife examines and she’s still a maiden, if Duke Du doesn’t want to take her as a concubine, she can still marry someone else. This would prove her innocence. Speaking of which, when I sent gifts the other day, Duke Du gladly accepted. How was I to know you weren’t fond? Otherwise, I wouldn’t make Lao Wan so aggrieved.”

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, looking at Du Zhongshu with dissatisfaction and disappointment, ”But after all, since the person was sent out by me, as long as she’s still pure, I’ll immediately arrange a good marriage for her, complete with ten carriage loads of dowry!”

The onlookers gasped collectively. Ten carriage loads of dowry, this Lady Bai truly was wealthy and powerful.

Before Du Zhongshu could speak again, Bai Ruozhu directly said to Jianqi, ”Go find the Chief Officer in the capital, let him arrange two experienced midwives for examination.”

”Yes.” Jianqi replied as he was about to leave, but Lao Wan panicked and shouted, ”Don’t bother, I’ve lost my maidenhood, but it has nothing to do with the Duke. It was before entering the Wang Residence...”

Her voice grew softer, sobbing quietly.

If Bai Ruozhu didn’t know her second brother well, she might suspect he played with her.

Lao Madam, realizing the situation, rushed over to hug Lao Wan and cried, ”My poor child, tell mother your grievances, mother will make it right for you!”

Lao Wan shook her head while crying, sporting a ”can’t say” expression.

This ”can’t say” provided room for plenty of speculation.

”Lao Wan at Bai Residence stayed in a separate yard, apart from me no one else went to see her. Could it be she suffered grievances at Lao Family?” Bai Ruozhu exclaimed in surprise, ”Lao Madam, you must investigate thoroughly and offer her justice. Lao Family is a Powerful and Noble Family; such incidents shouldn’t occur to damage the family reputation.”

Lao Madam was so angry she nearly fainted, glaring at Bai Ruozhu, ”Nonsense, our Lao Family is upright, Wan’er left in good condition. Besides, it’s your Bai Residence not admitting to something you did?”

”Look at your words, our Bai Residence can’t afford to keep one person. If there really was something, we wouldn’t send her away, right? Enough, more talk is useless, quickly find someone to examine her body. I heard experienced midwives can determine the last time a woman shared a bed; that should clarify things, right?” Bai Ruozhu waved at Jianqi, ”Why aren’t you going? What are you dawdling for?”

Jianqi walked quickly away, soon vanishing into the night.

Lao Madam and Lao Wan hadn’t discussed, so they didn’t know Lao Wan’s situation. And Lao Wan, wanting not to ruin Du Zhongshu’s plan, simply blamed it on Bai Family.

She had considered saying Bai Zepei played with her without acknowledgment, being why she was sent away. But seeing Bai Ruozhu’s vibrant face, and recalling Du Zhongshu calling her name in passion, jealousy burned intensely.

She decided to claim Jiang Yichun forced her, and since Bai Ruozhu is a fierce woman not allowing Jiang Yichun to take concubines, that’s why she sent her away under some gift-return rule.
