Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2305: Chapter 2304: It Was I Who Mistook the Person

Lao Wan wanted to say that after encountering such a thing, she felt ashamed to face others, especially feeling guilty towards Lord Du, which is why she thought of shaving her head to become a nun.

But she learned from a young age to feign pity and gain sympathy, scheming little by little. However, she had just hinted to the onlookers, without saying a word, and then Bai Ruozhu already wanted to find the midwife again, claiming she could determine the time of the cohabitation. Her words seemed to be self-defeated!

All her carefully considered words couldn’t be uttered, and now she didn’t dare to speak.

Bai Ruozhu smiled at her, ”Lao Wan should know who it is best, right? If not, just name that beast. With so many people watching, he wouldn’t dare retaliate against you.”

She looked at Du Zhongshu, ”Lord Du, wouldn’t you say so?”

Du Zhongshu’s heart sank to the bottom. If he had known Bai Ruozhu would be so straightforward and direct, he wouldn’t have touched Lao Wan; wouldn’t that be more convincing? But what should he do now?

Has she already realized he was with Lao Wan? He felt somewhat uncomfortable; would she look down on him even more?

He felt it ironic; hasn’t Jiang Yichun been with other women? Even if he doesn’t dare now, hasn’t he ever done it before?

Lao Wan was still hesitating, but Bai Ruozhu smiled and took two steps forward, saying, ”Why doesn’t Aunt Lao dare to speak? Or are you implying that my husband Jiang Yichun forced himself on you, and I, a jealous wife, didn’t allow you to stay in Bai Residence, so I sent you to Lord Du, who, unwilling to refuse me, accepted you reluctantly?”

For a moment everyone was dumbstruck, the inside and outside of the Nunnery Hall became incredibly quiet, and only after a while did someone react: this Bai Chief Doctor really dared to speak, regardless of whether it’s true or false, isn’t it bad for both her and her husband?

Bai Ruozhu slightly raised her chin, her expression confident as she said, ”A clear conscience fears no crooked shadows; naturally I’m not afraid to mention things that never happened. But if anyone tries to tarnish my reputation, I guarantee I’ll present evidence that leaves them crying!”

Lao Wan’s body trembled; she vaguely felt that if she dared to slander Jiang Yichun, she probably wouldn’t make it out alive today.

She was somewhat frightened; she wanted revenge but more importantly, she wanted to live; she didn’t want to gamble with her life.

Thinking of this, she couldn’t help but look at Du Zhongshu, her eyes pleading ”Save me.”

Just then, Jianqi’s voice echoed, ”Master, I found them, fearing delays, I brought them using agility.”

He strode into the Nunnery Hall, carrying a woman in each hand, both women were somewhat pale from being frightened due to the speed.

Du Zhongshu clenched his fists tighter, finally taking a deep breath and said, ”There’s no need to investigate, it was me who, after getting drunk that night, mistook Lao Miss for someone else, I wronged Miss Lao.”

”Lord Du, why didn’t you say so earlier? I’ve exerted much effort along the way, it was really quite a hassle.” Jianqi spoke unreservedly, his face cold while uttering these words, creating a somewhat humorous picture, Bai Ruozhu and the others couldn’t help but laugh.

She glanced at Yizi, understanding her meaning instantly, and her face blushed.

”Alright, alright, now that the situation is clarified, since Aunt Lao has consummated the marriage with Lord Du, she should live her life properly, why become a nun and continue claiming she’s a decoration?” Bai Ruozhu’s voice rang out again, ”It’s said girls like to be petty, but as someone’s concubine, certainly there must be some decorum, wouldn’t you say so, Lady Lao?”

Lady Lao’s face flushed with anger, alternating between blue and white, she glared at Lao Wan, saying, ”This is so absurd, enough! I’m not your birth mother; I can’t control you, I’m heading back to Residence first!”

After speaking, Lady Lao took her servants, leaving as if running for her life, fearing Bai Ruozhu would call her out again.

Bai Ruozhu coldly sneered at her departing figure, thinking if she knew this would happen, why did she act as a fool earlier.

”I’m not being absurd, it’s...”

Lao Wan obviously unwilling, intending to retaliate.

”It’s that Lord called someone else’s name, I truly don’t want to be an eyesore to him anymore.” Lao Wan said as tears began falling again, truly with the pitiful beauty of a Lihua in the rain, evoking little sympathy.

”I...” Du Zhongshu quickly glanced at Bai Ruozhu, fearful of her knowing, instantly giving the gossipers more room for imagination.

Bai Ruozhu’s face turned cold, ”Since it’s come to this, just directly say whose name he was calling, right?”

Lao Wan carefully glanced at Du Zhongshu, who hastily said, ”Don’t speak nonsense lest you harm others.”

”Lord, why don’t you dare let her know your devotion, as Miss Wan can’t bear it, just let Miss Wan be the villain!” Lao Wan resolutely said, ”The one Lord constantly thinks of is Bai Chief Doctor, calling out your name!”

A resounding slap echoed, and everyone inhaled sharply, wow, this Bai Chief Doctor was so enraged she struck someone!

But the next second Bai Ruozhu didn’t target Lao Wan anymore, instead turning around to glare at Du Zhongshu, saying sharply, ”Lord Du, you and I serve in the same court, you actually insult me like this, today I’ll go before the Emperor and demand to know if there’s such reasoning, ask the court censors whether a Lord can covet a married woman, thus tainting a woman’s reputation!”

”Hmph, if Danliang Country’s married women can be insulted in such a manner, then how can Danliang be called a nation of propriety, what happens to the laws and moral principles? I don’t believe the Emperor will favor you as a meritorious officer to allow you to sully me, a female officer, as such. Right now, I’ll enter the Palace to seek justice; everyone present will be my witnesses!”

Du Zhongshu had considered various reactions from Bai Ruozhu, such as refuting Lao Wan’s claim or sneering at him, but he hadn’t expected Bai Ruozhu to be so fierce about demanding an Imperial Decree, elevating the matter to several levels.

Once again, he realized he truly underestimated this woman!

He smiled bitterly; if it weren’t like this, how could he be longing for her?

Du Zhongshu looked at Bai Ruozhu passionately and said, ”I won’t seek to accuse you; I’ll only plead guilty before the Emperor. As you know, I won’t confront you at Court.”

By this point, he didn’t know if he was acting or if his words contained some truth from his heart; he couldn’t ascertain his own emotions anymore.

It is said sometimes when one acts too much, it can become real, and he wouldn’t admit he constantly yearned for Bai Ruozhu, preferring to numb himself with the excuse of acting.

Others seeing Lord Du still deep in love couldn’t help but sigh, while Bai Ruozhu felt utterly repelled by Du Zhongshu’s insincere love; if one truly loved someone, would they do these things? Like she did with Achun, even though Achun pretended to fall for Fo Lanying, she, although unwilling and in pain, never did anything to harm the two.
