Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1490: Chapter 1591 A Crack in the Heart_1

”Achun!” Bai Ruozhu called out excitedly, leaping up suddenly. She knew that even if there was an impostor Jiang Yichun nearby, she could still recognize him at a glance, just as she always used to spot him in a crowd before they got together.

She leapt from her chair and quickly walked towards him.

Jiang Yichun’s eyes also showed longing and excitement, but he quickly suppressed the frenzy in his eyes and shook his head slightly at Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu caught on and slowed her steps. Indeed, it wasn’t a joyous reunion; he had been at home all along. She couldn’t afford to lose composure upon seeing him, especially at the Imperial Medical Hospital—what if they were seen by others?

Although she soon understood, her heart couldn’t help but feel a touch of disappointment. After all, she had missed him dearly and it felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over her head, making her feel a bit irritated. Even though it wasn’t his fault, she was still somewhat annoyed with him.

It was just like a young lady throwing a little tantrum, Bai Ruozhu thought resentfully. After all, wasn’t it normal for a woman in love to get moody?

”There’s something at home; come back with me first,” Jiang Yichun said softly, and then mouthed the words to Bai Ruozhu: rescue.

Bai Ruozhu’s heart skipped a beat. Someone needed rescuing? Were they in danger? Bai Ruozhu wanted to ask if he was hurt, but the sound of footsteps outside forced her to hold back her words.

The attendants outside saw Jiang Yichun and hurriedly saluted. Jiang Yichun waved them off and left the Imperial Medical Hospital with Bai Ruozhu.

Once they were out of the Palace and on the horse carriage, Jiang Yichun pulled Bai Ruozhu into his arms and planted a burning kiss on her.

Bai Ruozhu’s body grew hot from the kiss, feeling as if he was sucking all the air from her chest, leaving her dizzy and almost forgetting where she was.

It took a while before he let her go and, staring into her eyes, said, ”Ruozhu, I’ve missed you.”

Bai Ruozhu started smiling, the earlier discontent vanishing like smoke.

”I’ve missed you too, every single day,” she said with a smile, her lips feeling numb and sore.

Jiang Yichun inhaled sharply and hugged her again, kissing her.

”It’s not just every day; I think about you even more at night,” he whispered in her ear, his warm breath tickling her ear and making her whole body tingle.

”Stop messing around, tell me if you’re hurt? Did things go smoothly this time?” Bai Ruozhu asked as she began to feel around his body for any bandages that would be there if he were injured.

Jiang Yichun chuckled, ”My lady, are you taking advantage of me? Are you really that eager?”

His teasing tone made her blush, but she kept searching.

He caught her hand, ”Stop moving, or I really won’t be able to hold back from devouring you!”

Bai Ruozhu shrank her neck and pulled back her wandering hand.

”I’m not injured,” he said, his voice a bit dry. The image of the moment he almost fatally injured Yang Tianhua flashed through his head... but...

Bai Ruozhu sighed in relief but failed to notice his abnormality, ”Who did you just say saved the person?”

”It’s a Shadow Guard. To reveal her vulnerabilities, she couldn’t be sent to the Palace to find an Imperial Doctor for treatment. Moreover, I was told that only you could save her.” Jiang Yichun’s expression grew dimmer, and after hesitating for a moment, he added, ”She took two arrows for me and aggravated her injury by rushing on the road. She’s struggling to hold on now.”

Bai Ruozhu had not heard that ”she” was a woman. She had subconsciously assumed that Shadow Guards were all men, so she didn’t think too much about it.

”She saved your life and can be considered your benefactor. I will do my utmost to save her!” Bai Ruozhu said earnestly.

At this time, the horse carriage arrived at the gate of Bai Residence. Jiang Yichun jumped off the carriage, then helped Bai Ruozhu dismount, whispering, ”I had someone take her to our yard without alerting anyone else in the family.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded. They had to be cautious now. If the injured person’s identity was exposed, people might discover that Yang Tianhua was killed by someone sent by the Emperor, potentially leading to a massive uproar.

When they returned to the yard, Bai Ruozhu’s heart grew uncomfortable the instant she saw Ling, who was on the brink of death. After being apart for so many days, he had come to her in such a hurry, unable even to have a proper private conversation with her, all for the sake of saving another woman?

The displeasure that had dissipated earlier climbed back into her heart, especially considering she had just called the person Jiang Yichun’s ”benefactor.” She felt even more uncomfortable.

However, Bai Ruozhu was a doctor after all. She did not glance at Jiang Yichun again and rolled up her sleeves to begin treating Ling.

”She was shot in the back. The injury had started to heal on the road, but the jostling was too severe. As we approached the Capital, the wound worsened. I wasn’t in a position to treat her, so other Shadow Guards applied medicine to her, but they’re not doctors, so there were some delays.” Jiang Yichun noticed Bai Ruozhu’s displeasure and, afraid that she would misunderstand, hurriedly explained.

Bai Ruozhu, without looking up, said, ”There’s no need for you to explain further. I will examine her myself. I’m going to inspect her wound now, don’t you know to stay out of the way?”

”Ruozhu, I...” Jiang Yichun, with a pained expression, tried to explain further but was interrupted by Bai Ruozhu, ”Go out. Or do you want to see her body?”

Jiang Yichun didn’t dare to delay any longer and rushed out of the room.

Bai Ruozhu turned Ling over, cut open her clothes, and the poorly wrapped bandage to reveal her wound.

The wound was deep, already severely injured. If it wasn’t for the strong constitution of the woman before her, she wouldn’t have survived. Moreover, with the hot weather causing the wound to be inflamed and festering, it’s no wonder her condition had worsened.

Bai Ruozhu had no choice but to give Ling a needle to temporarily relieve the pain, then she cut away the rotting flesh and disinfected the wound with alcohol.

Perhaps feeling the pain, Ling, who had been unconscious, frowned and started to talk deliriously.

”It hurts... Lord Jiang... stay with me...”

Bai Ruozhu tensed, realizing this woman had not only saved Jiang Yichun but also harbored feelings for him. She grew even more upset. Wasn’t the other person a Shadow Guard? So, during this mission with Jiang Yichun, she had fallen for him in just a few days?

Aren’t Shadow Guards supposed to be disciplined, not falling in love easily? What is this now?

”Lord Jiang... I would rather die... than let anything happen to you... I’m so cold... hold me...” As Ling continued her delirious chatter, seemingly dreaming about something, she suddenly clutched Bai Ruozhu’s hand.

Bai Ruozhu felt a wave of aversion and forcefully shook off her hand. She did not like the woman before her; no woman would like someone who has her sights on her husband. Moreover, a Shadow Guard, who is supposed to be close to the Emperor, would surely know that Jiang Yichun was already married, yet she still harbored feelings for a married man, likely not being a good person.
