Chapter 1480: Chapter 1581: Places You Shouldn’t Touch_1

A squad of Shadow Guards disguised as Quanrong tribesmen charged towards Yang Tianhua, murder evident in Jiang Yichun’s eyes as his sword thrust straight towards Yang Tianhua.

”Protect the lord!” Yang Tianhua’s personal guard cried out, blocking his path, while the troops behind him quickly took out their crossbows, swiftly notched their bolts, and fired towards Jiang Yichun and his men.

Jiang Yichun dodged two crossbow bolts and had already charged to Yang Tianhua’s face, whose bloodthirsty expression finally showed signs of panic. He drew his sword to fight, but Jiang Yichun exerted his full inner strength, and with a clang, Jiang Yichun broke the sword in his hand!

Yang Tianhua lost his balance and fell from his horse. As Jiang Yichun attacked him again, the crossbowmen from Lingzhou threw hidden weapons behind him, instantly reducing the opposing force’s firepower.

Jiang Yichun’s sword struck down towards Yang Tianhua again, who was now in a complete daze and couldn’t avoid it. Immediately, his head was severed from his body, rolling to one side.

This scene was extremely familiar, much like the commoners who had been beheaded before. Yang Tianhua’s head, with eyes wide open, rolled next to the commoners’ heads. Without his luxurious attire, without his general’s armor representing his status, and his helmet having fallen aside, what difference was there between his severed head and those of the common people?

Originally, there was no difference—they were all born equal.

”Lord Yang!” Yang Tianhua’s personal guard’s eyes were about to split open, and he howled in rage, ”Fire, don’t leave a single one alive!”

The crossbowmen behind him quickly drew their bolts, and one after another, the cold gleaming bolts flew towards Jiang Yichun and his men.

”Retreat quickly!” Jiang Yichun hoarsely shouted, fleeing with his men. As he escaped, he used arrows to block several incoming bolts. At this moment, Yang Tianhua’s personal guard squinted at him, remembering it was he who had slain Yang Tianhua.

The personal guard drew his bow to its fullest, and three arrows whistled towards Jiang Yichun, when suddenly, a slender figure rushed in front of Jiang Yichun, ”Be careful!”

Ling yelled out, using her body to shield Jiang Yichun. She swung her sword, deflecting two arrows, but still, one arrow struck her in the chest.

”You...” Jiang Yichun looked at Ling, who now stood in front of him with a great patch of blood reddening her chest, and for a moment, he didn’t know what to say. He quickly picked up Ling, and with her, he fled rapidly towards a distant location.

They only stopped upon reaching the pre-arranged rendezvous point. Jiang Yichun finally relaxed and carried Ling inside a house, laying her on the bed. Irritated, he said, ”Are you crazy? Why did you block that for me?”

Ling’s face was deathly pale at this moment, and she spat out a mouthful of blood.

She struggled to reach out her hand, wanting to touch Jiang Yichun’s cheek, but unfortunately, he wasn’t close enough, hard-heartedly denying her the opportunity.

”How could I bear to see you hurt? Aren’t I ridiculous?” she said with a wry laugh, her lips blossoming into red petals of blood, ”From the moment I saw you, I fell in love with you. It’s a pity that my status doesn’t allow me to be close to you, but if I can die in your arms, I will have no regrets.”

Jiang Yichun’s brows furrowed, ”Don’t talk nonsense, you’re not going to die.”

Although his medical skills were not as good as Bai Ruozhu’s, they were definitely on par with those of a proper doctor.

He quickly pressed several of Ling’s acupuncture points, temporarily stopping the bleeding. Then he reached out to help her pull out the arrow and tend to the wound, but his hand paused mid-air.

The location of this wound... he shook his head, feeling that Ling had risked her life to save him and was injured because of him. If he didn’t save her, he truly couldn’t be at peace with his conscience. But if he went to save her, he would inevitably see parts of her chest that he shouldn’t, and would he then owe Ling an explanation? Wouldn’t this be unfair to Ruozhu?

On one hand was his troubled conscience, and on the other was his love and promises to Bai Ruozhu, which made him tangled in indecision, not knowing how to proceed.

Luckily, at this moment, others followed in, and a Shadow Guard named Jue rushed in. He asked anxiously, ”How is Ling doing? Should we go find a doctor?”

Jiang Yichun looked at Jue as if he was looking at a savior and said, ”No need, I know medical skills. But now I need your help. You will have to pull out the arrow from her chest for me later, and then apply the hemostatic Drug Powder.” As he said this, he handed the Yunnan Baiyao that Bai Ruozhu had prepared to Jue.

”What if I mess it up with my clumsy hands?” Jue suddenly became nervous, no longer bearing the demeanor of a Shadow Guard but more like a panicking young boy.

”So should I do it instead? I’m a married man; it’s not convenient for me to bandage and treat her. Just be careful and do it,” he said as he forcibly stuffed the medicine into Jue’s hands, ”I’ll go boil some water for her. Hurry up and stop dallying.”

Jue’s face color changed. He had always been paying attention to Ling. He had noticed before that Ling often looked at Lord Jiang, and he started to worry inside. But he had been comforting himself all along, saying that as Shadow Guards, they couldn’t afford to get involved in emotions, so he thought he was just being paranoid.

But when he saw Ling risking her life to take an arrow for Lord Jiang, his heart turned cold in an instant. He hadn’t guessed wrong; Ling did like Lord Jiang, and yet he had feelings for Ling.

Naturally, he did not want Jiang Yichun to be the one to bandage Ling’s wound, so he gritted his teeth, carefully followed Jiang Yichun’s instructions, tore open her clothes, carefully pulled out the arrow, and began to dress her wound with medicine.

In the process, he inevitably touched parts that he shouldn’t have. His face turned crimson, but the feeling inside was inexplicably pleasant, to the point where he subconsciously ”accidentally” brushed against those areas a few times.

”Lord Jiang... don’t leave me...” Ling’s mind was somewhat fuzzy, and she weakly muttered those intermittent words.

Jue was jolted, his body instantly felt as if doused with cold water, cooling down.

Finally, he finished bandaging Ling, and dressed her, but her phrase, ”Lord Jiang, don’t leave me,” kept revolving in his mind.

Afterwards, the Shadow Guards gradually returned, among them four were seriously injured, and Jiang Yichun personally treated each of them, showing his impartiality.

Ling had a good constitution, and the arrow had not hit her heart, so she was safe through the night. The next morning, she woke up.

When she saw the bandages on her chest, her cheeks flushed instantly. Just then, Jiang Yichun came in with medicine soup and said, ”It’s good that you’re awake, now drink this medicine.”

Ling obediently took the medicine and started drinking it sip by sip. However, during the process, she couldn’t help but steal glances at Jiang Yichun, the more she looked, the more attractive she found him, causing her cheeks to grow increasingly red.

She knew he was the only one with medical knowledge here, so it must have been him who treated her wound. In her hazy state the previous day, she had indeed seen him looking at her affectionately and touching places he shouldn’t have.

”Lord Jiang, I will ask the Emperor to let me leave the palace when I go back. I won’t be a Shadow Guard anymore,” she said softly, so ashamed that even the roots of her ears turned red.

Jiang Yichun didn’t know what she was thinking and nodded, saying, ”You’re so badly injured, it’s probably best that you leave the Shadow Guards.”
