Chapter 1478: Chapter 1579: Human Acupoint Map_1

”Certainly,” Bai Ruozhu nodded and said.

Tian Fang walked over to the Little Eunuch happily and said, ”Open your mouth and let me have a look.”

At this moment, a smile had already appeared on Bai Ruozhu’s face. There was a reason she allowed Tian Fang to pass first.

The Little Eunuch blushed and opened his mouth. Tian Fang dodged a bit as it seemed the Little Eunuch had bad breath. However, there was no look of disgust on Tian Fang’s face. She carefully examined the Little Eunuch’s mouth, then said, ”He also has mouth ulcers, and his gums are red, swollen, and eroded.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded with a smile, ”Correct.”

The other six gathered around to look as well and all could not help but show expressions of shame—they had not noticed the Little Eunuch’s mouth condition.

Previously, because Bai Ruozhu had allowed Tian Fang to pass first, without having her take the final question of the exam, the other six felt somewhat resentful. But by this moment, while they might not be entirely convinced, they could no longer voice any objections.

The other six felt nervous, thinking they might be eliminated, but then they saw Bai Ruozhu pointing at them and saying, ”You, you, and you, go register your information.”

In the end, Bai Ruozhu selected four out of the six and then said to them, ”Although you have been chosen, you are not yet officially enrolled. I will give you three months. After three months, those who pass the evaluation will become official Imperial Doctors. If you fail the evaluation, you will have to leave the Female Physicians Institution.”

”Yes, my lord,” Tian Fang and the other four hurriedly answered earnestly.

The two who had not been selected were somewhat depressed. One of them was far behind in the medical theory section; the Palace already had five female physicians who were way behind, and Bai Ruozhu already had a headache from that. She did not want to lower the standards to admit a batch of trainees who needed immediate availability.

The other one seemed more astute and was not convinced, saying, ”Lord Bai, my skills are not far off from theirs. Why didn’t you choose me?”

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”The most taboo thing for a doctor is to irresponsibly blurt out and diagnose without accountability. Just now, to pass the exam, you immediately said he had excessive stomach qi and often belched, on uncertain grounds. What if I had asked you to prescribe medication? Would you have prescribed Qi-regulating medicine? But his condition is not as such, and Qi-regulating medicine would further affect his gastritis, wouldn’t that be a misdiagnosis?”

The others nodded silently in agreement. They had examined the Little Eunuch and indeed it was true.

”I, I was just saying, I didn’t prescribe any medicine,” the female doctor said defensively.

Bai Ruozhu laughed, ”You should go back and make more effort to stabilize yourself. Treating illnesses is no laughing matter, and even without prescribing medicine, you can’t speak carelessly. The Female Physicians Institution will continue to recruit; when you have improved, you will still have opportunities in the future.”

The female doctor’s face turned red, ”Thank you for your guidance, my lord.”

Soon, the managing eunuch recorded the information of the five selected women. Bai Ruozhu told them to go back and prepare, and to report to the Female Physicians Institution in the Palace three days later.

”Lü, given the complex situation in the Palace recently, can you arrange for someone to check the backgrounds of these five women?” Bai Ruozhu asked Lü.

”Lord Bai has been thorough in thinking. I will arrange for it to be done immediately,” Lü said with a bow.

After Bai Ruozhu arrived at the Female Physicians Institution, she informed the five female physicians that new members would be arriving. Upon hearing that the new people were carefully selected, they began to worry.

They were naturally aware of their own abilities, and after studying under Bai Ruozhu in recent days, they felt even more keenly their own shortcomings. With the new female physicians having been selected by Bai Ruozhu, they were certainly not inferior, which made them fear being compared unfavorably.

Bai Ruozhu saw their concerns and said, ”They have their advantages, and you have your strengths, but in the time to come, everyone must learn together. I’ll divide you into groups, each with a group leader and deputy leader. Everyone will have the chance to compete for these positions, and I hope you’ll seize the opportunity to continuously improve yourselves.”

”Yes,” the five answered in unison.

At the Imperial Medical Hospital, Mao Xingcai and Wei Pengbo were whispering to each other. Wei Pengbo said that Bai Ruozhu hadn’t been to Consort Lv’s side, wondering if she had given up?

Mao Xingcai suddenly slapped his head, ”That’s really possible. She might just want to call it a draw, wouldn’t that mean another contest?”

”That can’t happen!” Wei Pengbo said angrily, ”When the time comes, they must insist on it. If she dares to lose and not admit it, we’ll report it to the emperor. If the emperor favors her, we’ll all resign collectively.”

”Alright, go and rally the people below, make sure Jiu Sheng doesn’t sway them.” Mao Xingcai instructed.

Just then, a noisy commotion suddenly came from the inner hall of the Imperial Medical Hospital. Mao Xingcai and Wei Pengbo exchanged glances and walked back.

They saw a group of Imperial Doctors gathered around a wall, excitedly pointing and discussing something.

”What’s this about? Why such a commotion?” Mao Yanshi asked with the authority of his position.

Unfortunately, everyone was so engrossed that no one paid attention to his words.

”Ahem, what are you all doing? What is the meaning of this?” Mao Xingcai mustered all his strength and bellowed, startling the crowd into silence.

Then one of the Imperial Doctors turned around and said excitedly to Mao Xingcai, ”Chief Doctor Mao, come quickly and look. Jiu Sheng has posted a human acupoint map drawn by Chief Physician Bai, we just asked him to put it up. Come and see if it’s accurate.”

Mao Xingcai made everyone disperse, and only then could he clearly see the map on the wall, densely filled with labeled acupuncture points.

He couldn’t help but inhale sharply, this map not only labeled the acupuncture points but also provided illustrations; it simply went against the norms of the practice!

On closer inspection, the figure in the drawing was unclothed. Although it was only outlined with single lines, one could see it was a naked man, which was simply...

”Simply indecent!” Mao Xingcai expressed his thoughts and moved to tear down the acupoint map, but Jiu Sheng reacted faster and took down the map before him.

”It’s even better if Chief Doctor Mao doesn’t let it be posted. If it weren’t for everyone’s request, I wouldn’t have wanted to release it,” Jiu Sheng said disdainfully as he rolled up the acupoint map, ”This is medical knowledge, how is exploring the human body indecent? By what Chief Doctor Mao is saying, male doctors shouldn’t look at female patients, or else that would also be considered indecent?”

”A woman drawing the body of an undressed man, if this is not indecent, what is? Allowing such a person to teach at the Female Physicians Institution would surely corrupt its ethos!” Mao Xingcai said, stomping his foot in anger.

Jiu Sheng found it pointless to argue with such a stubborn old man. He took the acupoint map and walked away, ”Academic research does not concern itself with what you just mentioned. Forget it, anyone who wants to discuss can find me privately in the future.”

Soon, the quarrel over here reached the ears of those at the Female Physicians Institution. Bai Ruozhu shrugged helplessly, thinking this really was an obstinately unenlightened old conservative.

However, Jiu Sheng had privately told Bai Ruozhu that two-thirds of the Imperial Doctors in the Imperial Medical Hospital didn’t hold such outdated ideas and greatly admired her acupoint map, hoping to borrow it for study.

Bead’s eyes rolled thoughtfully, and she said, ”Don’t hurry, I’ll submit a request first, then ask the Printing Office to make more copies.”
