Chapter 1476: Chapter 1577: Female Doctor Doesn’t Want Unethical People_1

When did Consort Lü begin to feel that the Emperor favored slender waists?

Upon reflecting, she had just entered the palace, and she had always taken pride in her own delicate waist. Once the Emperor caressed her waist over and over, she felt her entire body trembling, and in her heart, she screamed frantically, ”My slender waist has caught the Emperor’s attention, he likes my waist!”

It was from that moment on that she became obsessed with making her waist even slimmer, slimmer still, she could eat less or even not at all, she could tie her waist tightly, outlining even more enchanting curves, all to make the Emperor glance her way one more time.

Yet, even after she had been promoted to consort, the Emperor rarely appeared.

Suddenly, her face turned pale, could it be that the Emperor preferred voluptuous women, and she had been mistaken all along?

Bao Ping watched her expression change agonizingly, and truly could not bear to see her in pain, she spoke up, ”Your Highness, what the Emperor likes is his concern, you are you, stop trying to figure out his preferences.”

”Nonsense, what’s the difference between not receiving the Emperor’s affection and being cast into the Leng Palace?” Consort Lü suddenly yelled like a madwoman, she had tortured herself too harshly, problems were not only arising in her body, but her emotions were also deteriorating.

Quick to anger, paranoid, and full of delusional thoughts, all of these traits had manifested in her.

”Go find out, has the Emperor said anything to the beautiful Xu?” Consort Lü ordered Bao Ping.

”Yes, Your Highness.”

...

The next day came in the blink of an eye, and just as Bai Ruozhu arrived at the Palace Gate, Jianqi appeared before her, saying, ”Madam Bai, the Emperor has assigned me to protect you recently, and allows you to bring a guard along when entering the palace.”

Bai Ruozhu looked at Jianqi in surprise, ”Has something happened? It’s not something that happened to that little maid Dudu, is it?”

”Her arm was dislocated, and she was locked in the dungeon with a pipa bone shackle, yet she still escaped,” Jianqi said almost through clenched teeth.

”How is it that everyone seems to grow wings, and the Imperial Palace has become a place for them to come and go as they please?” Bai Ruozhu said while also thinking of the man in the ghost mask who had an affair with Fu Yiyi in the palace, feeling even more that things were too chaotic inside the palace.

Jianqi bowed his head, ”It is my incompetence.”

Bai Ruozhu did not wish to dwell on it and changed the subject, ”Then I will bring Jianqi with me into the palace.”

”That’s exactly what the Emperor meant,” Jianqi replied.

By the time Bai Ruozhu reached the Imperial Medical Hospital, someone from the Ministry of Internal Affairs came with a message, saying that the announcement had been posted for a few days, and several female physicians had responded to the call. They were asking if Bai Ruozhu wanted to meet them to see if any were suitable.

”Alright, I’ll go have a look right now,” Bai Ruozhu said and walked towards the eunuch from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to exit, hoping to recruit more people quickly. If she could find some with better medical skills, they could also help teach the other female physicians.

Soon, she arrived at the place arranged by the Ministry of Internal Affairs; inside the room sat seven women of varying ages. The eldest had white at her temples, while the youngest was only a year or two older than Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu did not underestimate the younger female physicians, nor did she dismiss those with graying hair; she examined each of the seven carefully, and without considering their medical skills first, all seven seemed clear-eyed and in good health.

At that moment, footsteps came from the doorway, ”I apologize, I hope I am not late,” someone said.

A crisp female voice rose, and Bai Ruozhu furrowed her brows. She turned her head to look and sure enough, it was Hao Baishuang!

When Hao Baishuang saw Bai Ruozhu, she too was taken aback. Quickly, she noticed the Official Uniform on Bai Ruozhu, and a hint of panic flashed in her eyes.

”Doctor Hao, you’ve come at the right time, this is the Chief Doctor Bai from the Female Physicians Institution.” The managing eunuch said with a fawning smile to Bai Ruozhu, ”Honorable Bai, this Doctor Hao is a friend recommended by me. She is a doctor from Fushou Hall, and her Medical Skills are definitely not inferior.”

The other seven female physicians all looked toward Hao Baishuang, their eyes filled with both envy and worry, indicating that being a doctor at Fushou Hall certainly had its reputation.

Hao Baishuang pushed down the tumult in her heart and saluted Bai Ruozhu, ”Honorable Bai, I’ve seen.”

The other seven female physicians also saluted one after another, all of them looking eagerly at Bai Ruozhu, hoping to be selected to become an Imperial Doctor in the Palace.

”I’m not familiar with your medical skills. Introduce yourselves and talk about what you’re most skilled at,” Bai Ruozhu said.

The oldest of the seven female physicians spoke first, followed by the others introducing themselves one by one. Hao Baishuang was the last to introduce herself. Unlike the others, she didn’t mention what she was skilled at but rather said, ”I don’t have any particular area of expertise, but having practiced medicine for many years, I’m virtually proficient in all common illnesses.”

”I will give you an examination, and those who pass can become Imperial Doctors in the Palace, but cannot leave the Palace at will. You will only have two opportunities to leave the Palace and return home each month. Are you willing?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

All the female physicians said they had no objections, but Bai Ruozhu turned her gaze toward Hao Baishuang and said, ”You don’t need to take the exam; you may go back and continue working at Fushou Hall.”

The managing eunuch was taken aback. He hurriedly approached and asked, ”Honorable Bai, what’s the matter? Did Doctor Hao say something wrong?”

Without waiting for Bai Ruozhu to answer, Hao Baishuang glared at Bai Ruozhu and said, ”Bai Ruozhu, you’re just abusing your power for personal revenge. You’re preventing me from becoming an Imperial Doctor in the Palace because of a personal grudge. You, with such a narrow mind, truly aren’t fit to manage the Female Physicians Institution!”

The managing eunuch, in a panic, gestured frantically to Hao Baishuang and whispered, ”Are you crazy? What are you saying? Don’t offend Honorable Bai!”

The other seven female physicians were all bewildered by this turn of events, each standing to one side with their heads hung low, not daring to say more.

Bai Ruozhu looked at Hao Baishuang and sneered, ”The Emperor has ordered me in charge of the Female Physicians Institution, so choosing who to become a female physician is my right. Whether I am fit or not is not for you to decide. As for you, let me make it clear today, the Female Physicians Institution doesn’t welcome those with improper hearts and no medical ethics!”

Clenching her teeth, Hao Baishuang asked, ”How do I lack medical ethics? I was the one who delivered your child; this is how you repay kindness with malice!”

”It’s true that I sought you out to deliver my child, but you stabbed me with a knife. That I didn’t punish you completely is already more than kind and righteous. Because of a personal grudge, after assisting with the childbirth, you stabbed me in front of the mother; did you ever consider the mother’s feelings? Did you think about the safety of the newborn? Is this what you call having medical ethics? If all doctors were like you, seeking revenge for a bit of personal hatred, wouldn’t that be chaotic?” sneered Bai Ruozhu.

Bai Ruozhu laughed coldly, ”Also, I never told you, but I almost died from massive postpartum hemorrhaging, yet you walked away. If I hadn’t encountered a master who saved my life, you would already be embroiled in a lawsuit over someone’s death.”

”How is that possible, you are only mentioning this now to slander me!” Hao Baishuang exclaimed in disbelief.

Bai Ruozhu shook her head nonchalantly, ”Believe what you will, but someone as dangerous as you must never enter the Palace. I can’t guarantee that if an Empress were to upset you, you wouldn’t stab her with a knife. I cannot take that responsibility!”
