Chapter 1468: Chapter 1569 Dangerous Person_1

Dengdeng was still too young after all, and his little hands didn’t have enough strength, which made him unsuitable for learning to make parts of various shapes, so he could only follow Ning Yu to learn how to disassemble and assemble mechanical devices. However, his comprehension was really high, and his talent for disassembling things was even higher.

Bai Ruozhu was reading a book by the side, occasionally glancing over at them, seeming rather leisurely.

At that moment, a young servant came in to report that someone from the palace had arrived, saying there was an urgent matter that required Ning Yu’s attention.

”Let them come in to speak; there are no outsiders here,” Ning Yu said.

The visitor was an Inner Attendant, whom Bai Ruozhu remembered having seen by the Emperor’s side.

”Greetings to Young Master Ning and Lord Bai,” the Inner Attendant bowed and then hastily said, ”The Emperor has captured the person who previously committed crimes in the palace. Today, he even went to Cining Palace and almost succeeded.”

Bai Ruozhu’s body tensed, ”Who was it?”

”He calls himself Duanyan, claiming to be the National Master’s senior fellow disciple. The Emperor has already imprisoned him in the prison. His Majesty said it would be better if Young Master Ning personally conducted the interrogation,” the Inner Attendant replied.

Ning Yu suddenly jumped up, his expression immediately becoming extremely nervous, losing the calmness he had before.

Bai Ruozhu looked at him in surprise. Duanyan? The National Master’s senior fellow disciple? It seemed the situation was not simple.

”Please tell His Majesty I will be there shortly,” Ning Yu said before going inside to fetch some items. When he reappeared, he was holding a sword and a compass, and a gold crown was placed on his head.

Bai Ruozhu had seen Ning Yu many times but had never seen him dress so formally. She couldn’t help but ask, ”What’s the deal with this Duanyan? Hasn’t he already been captured?”

Ning Yu’s brows were tightly furrowed, ”Do you think the Sky Prison can hold Duanyan? Even at my master’s peak, he was wary of him.”

”Then let’s hurry to the palace and see,” Bai Ruozhu said, but then fretted over Dengdeng and decided to have Jianqi take him back to the Bai Residence first.

The two of them made their way to the palace gate, and on the way, Ning Yu started to talk about Duanyan.

”As I told you before, my master’s physique was special, which made him unable to cultivate the Sect’s Heart Method. But he didn’t lose heart, instead, he created a special Heart Method, and later became the most outstanding among the disciples. The master passed on all his life’s knowledge to him and even intended to give him the position of Sect Leader. But, my master faced opposition and ostracism from many within the Sect, so he left and came to Danliang Country, where he established the Astrology Tower.”

As Ning Yu spoke, his face grew solemn, ”Apart from my master, Duanyan was the most talented amongst our contemporaries, but he was narrow-minded, not generous enough to accept others, so the master didn’t want to pass the Sect Leader position to him. To the end, he resolutely believed it was my master’s doing, and has harbored a deep hatred for my master ever since. The last time he caused trouble was five years ago, my master seriously injured him, and he disappeared for a few years until now...”

”This man is malicious at heart; to achieve his goals, he’ll disregard all morals and principles. Now that he has resurfaced, we’re likely in big trouble,” Ning Yu took a deep sigh.

The corners of Bai Ruozhu’s mouth twitched as she noticed Ning Yu referred to ”we” not ”I,” suggesting that Duanyan was seeking revenge on all of the National Master’s disciples, even if she was only one in name.

”If he’s so formidable, why didn’t he just confront you directly instead of going to such lengths to ambush Diao Bin?” Bai Ruozhu asked, puzzled.

”That’s just his nature; on one hand, he holds grudges, and on the other, he’s extremely suspicious and cautious. He probably wanted to test my strength since in the past years, it was my master who dealt with him; I never made a move.” Ning Yu said, showing a shade of embarrassment. Did his own strength need to be tested? He felt like he was about to bring shame to his master.

Bai Ruozhu felt some urgency upon hearing this, ”Then you definitely can’t show yourself now. At least if he’s unsure of your strength, he won’t act rashly. Won’t you just be exposing yourself if you appear?”

Ning Yu’s face turned even more awkward, ”It’s my fault for ending up like this, but even in my normal state, I’m far from his match. My talents are too far behind Master’s.”

Seeing him so disheartened, Bai Ruozhu couldn’t bear it and softened her tone to persuade him, ”Don’t go to the Sky Prison to see him later on. I’ll go take a look. You can take action if there’s an emergency.”

Ning Yu thought about it and could only nod in agreement.

The two headed straight for the Imperial Study Room. Tang Yin briefly explained the situation, then had Wang Shun take them to the Sky Prison. Ning Yu handed over the compass he had brought to Bai Ruozhu, saying, ”Take this with you. This is Master’s compass. He will be somewhat wary when he sees it. Moreover, it can withstand some magic techniques to ensure your safety.”

”Alright.” At this point, Bai Ruozhu wouldn’t be polite with him.

The compass felt heavy in her hands, so she could only carry it with both hands as she followed an Inner Attendant inside.

The Sky Prison was dark and damp, a sight she was already familiar with. She followed the Inner Attendant deeper into the dungeon, only to find that the Prison Cell where Duanyan was being held was the same one the Emperor had angrily thrown her into last time.

Before she could react with surprise, she saw a black-clothed elder sitting cross-legged on the ground. His hair was not tied up but strewn messily behind his head. Because the light was too dim, it covered his face, making it very hard to see clearly.

”Duanyan, I am National Master’s disciple, Bai Ruozhu. Each debt has its creditor, if you only wanted to cause trouble for us disciples, why did you infiltrate the palace and set a trap for others?” Bai Ruozhu spoke up. She felt that Ning Yu’s analysis wasn’t without reason, but it seemed not entirely correct. She vaguely sensed that Duanyan wanted to test Ning Yu on one hand, and on the other hand, he was targeting Diao Bin.

Let’s not forget, there was another hidden faction wanting to stir up chaos from the shadows.

The sitting Duanyan did not speak; he seemed as if he had entered meditation, ignoring Bai Ruozhu or perhaps not having heard her at all.

Bai Ruozhu felt that his presence had vanished, blending in with the surroundings as if they were one, and she inwardly admired how powerful his Cultivating Heart Method was.

However, she soon sniffed the air and realized something was amiss!

”This is not Duanyan, it’s a body double, hurry and inform the Emperor!” Bai Ruozhu shouted. She had picked up the scent of freshly cut wood. This was a dungeon, there should only be the smell of damp decay, so why was there the scent of fresh wood?

She remembered a book from the Astrology Tower, which mentioned a ninjutsu-like Puppet Technique that could use a piece of fresh wood to create a body double to deceive the enemy.

And the Duanyan in front of her was indeed a puppet made of wood!

Just as Bai Ruozhu discovered the problem, she suddenly felt an overwhelming sense of danger. Instinctively, she moved backward, followed by a loud bang. ”Duanyan” suddenly exploded, the powerful force of the blast bursting out of the cage and heading straight for Bai Ruozhu.

The slower-acting Inner Attendant was thrown out by the blast, severely coughing up blood. It looked like Bai Ruozhu was about to meet the same fate!
