Chapter 1453: Chapter 1554: Why Favor the Second Brother_1

”Alright, be good, I will be back as soon as possible.” he whispered, pecking her on the lips, which made her hurriedly turn her head away. What kind of tone was that, did he think she was so easy to coax like a child?

”What if Dengdeng realizes his dad is an imposter? When he didn’t know you were his father, he was so close to you, do you think he can’t sense it?” Bai Ruozhu asked worriedly.

”By then, Jing Lei will often be out on missions, or he will stay near the Emperor, so he will rarely come home,” Jiang Yichun said.

Bai Ruozhu pursed her lips, ”What about at night? Won’t he be suspected if he doesn’t return to his room?”

”Once inside this yard, there’s nothing to worry about; he can stay in the Ear Room,” Jiang Yichun’s expression darkened as he spoke. He suddenly didn’t want Jing Lei to pretend to be him anymore. He hadn’t minded it before, but now why did it feel so intolerable?

”I’m telling you, you better come back safe and sound, or else I’ll have to pretend no more,” Bai Ruozhu said fiercely.

”You dare!” His voice suddenly deepened, carrying a dangerous edge, ”It seems I need to teach you a proper lesson!”

Before his words even faded, he had already pressed against her, and Bai Ruozhu’s resistance was futile. The room was filled with a romantic charm...

The next day, Jiang Yichun, along with Chen Feng and Shan Dian, all in disguise, quietly left the Capital City with a large group of Shadow Guards.

As they passed through the City Gate, his gaze caught a glimpse of a man wearing a hood, dressed like someone from the River Jiang, from his angle he could only see the back, but it felt extremely familiar, yet he couldn’t remember why exactly at the moment.

The man vanished into the crowd entering the city in a flash, and since Jiang Yichun was in disguise and couldn’t delay, he had to push the thought to the back of his mind for the time being.

...

No one at Bai Ruozhu’s side knew that Jiang Yichun had left the Capital; she felt somewhat down but couldn’t show it, so she simply stayed in her own room, fussing with herbal medicine and such.

Unexpectedly, a maid soon came to convey that Miss Leng from the Leng Family and Miss Gu, along with a few other aristocratic young ladies, had come to congratulate her.

”It’s true I haven’t visited them since I came back; it really wouldn’t be right not to,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile. She changed her clothes and followed the maid to the Flower Hall.

Before entering the room, she could hear the laughter of the young ladies, their voices full of youthful vitality.

She also heard her mother saying with joy, ”Ruozhu, it’s wonderful that you have such friends. Stay and have a meal today; your aunt will tell the kitchen to prepare more dishes for you.”

Bai Ruozhu knew her mother was hospitable, but she was obviously even happier today. Bai Ruozhu felt it strange until she walked in and saw some unfamiliar faces.

Included among them was Si Yihuan, the third Miss of the Prime Minister’s family, and Xue Xue, the daughter of the Marquis Xue.

Lin Ping’er saw that Si Yihuan was knowledgeable and gentle, with a pleasant appearance, and her smile deepened as she seemed quite taken with Si Yihuan.

Bai Ruozhu greeted everyone with a smile, and seeing this, Lin Ping’er stood up and said, ”Go on and have fun, girls, I’m going to instruct the kitchen to serve you the newly developed Dimsum.”

Once Lin Ping’er had left, Leng Wanhua leaned over and whispered to Bai Ruozhu, ”Xue Xue insisted on coming over, and it’s also quite strange that Miss Si came to find us.”

Very few people knew about the Prime Minister handing petitions to the Emperor, so Leng Wanhua and the others didn’t know that the Si Family wanted to marry their daughter to Bai Zepei. Since the outcome was still unknown, Bai Ruozhu didn’t plan to spill the beans to avoid embarrassing Si Yihuan.

”Didn’t everyone get to know each other at the last banquet? We got along quite well,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

Leng Wanhua nodded, ”That’s true.”

Bai Ruozhu stared at her rosy cheeks and suddenly remembered Leng Bin drunkenly asking his second brother if he fancied his sister. What if Leng Wanhua became her sister-in-law?

”Why are you staring at me? Could it be that my skin has been looking bad recently?” Leng Wanhua nervously took out a small Western mirror and checked her reflection.

Gu Xue’an, hearing this, leaned over to look, ”No way, it’s always been tender and delicate.”

Soon, the girls started joking around. Not long after, a maid brought up some Rose Tea along with the Bai Family chef’s newly invented Cream Cupcakes, which instantly captured the girls’ attention.

”Ruozhu, where did you find your chef? How does he always come up with such unique things?” Si Yihuan asked enviously, then continued to lick the cream off the corner of her mouth, seeming unsatisfied.

Her actions amused Bai Ruozhu, ”Yihuan, you’re such a foodie, too.”

Seeing Si Yihuan like this, Bai Ruozhu, who was also a foodie, understood her very well.

At that time, not everyone could understand that ”foodie” was not a derogatory term. However, Si Yihuan didn’t feel embarrassed or unhappy at all upon hearing it. She laughed and said, ”My goal is to taste all the delicious foods in the world. Isn’t that one of life’s greatest pleasures?”

”Then you’ve met the right person in Ruozhu. Almost all the new dishes at Yingke Lai were her ideas. You two foodies are a perfect match,” Leng Wanhua said with a big laugh, ”Just be careful not to gain weight.”

”No worries, we’re still young,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smug smile, remembering from her previous life how she hadn’t gained weight no matter what she ate, even well into her twenties.

As everyone laughed and chatted, Si Yihuan got up to change clothes. Bai Ruozhu also stood up, saying, ”I’ll take you.”

Xue Xue opened her mouth to speak, but was stopped by Leng Wanhua, who pulled her aside to ask about the fabric of her clothes.

Although Leng Wanhua didn’t know what Bai Ruozhu wanted to talk to Si Yihuan about alone, she certainly meant to keep Xue Xue from disturbing them.

Walking together, Si Yihuan’s face reddened even before she spoke. Seeing her like this, Bai Ruozhu laughed and asked, ”Are you planning on waiting half a year?”

”You knew already? It’s really embarrassing to be asked so directly,” Si Yihuan said with a shy, red face.

Bai Ruozhu burst into laughter, ”Anyway, there’s no one else around. I just wanted to ask why you have taken a liking to my second brother?”

Si Yihuan blushed even more, her face turning the color of a fiery sunset.

”I... I heard that your family does not take concubines,” Si Yihuan spoke in a voice as faint as a mosquito’s, ”and once I went to Yingke Lai and happened to be in the private room next to your second brother. I overheard him composing poetry and greatly admired his talent and learning. Actually, before the Provincial Examination, I spoke to my mother about my feelings, and even had an officer matchmaker inquire, but to no avail as your mother said your second brother wanted to focus on his studies and was not considering marriage yet.”

Bai Ruozhu was taken aback by this revelation, ”Back then my second brother was just a scholar without any family backing. Your family agreed to that?”

Pride flickered across Si Yihuan’s face, ”Don’t judge by my grandfather being the Prime Minister, he’s never coercive about marriage affairs. As long as the person we’re interested in is of good character, ambitious and responsible, he wouldn’t object even if the person has an ordinary background. My parents feel the same way. Just like how my second brother fancied the daughter of a sixth-rank military officer and they did not object either.”

Hehe, I found a bug, Si Yihuan is the granddaughter of the Prime Minister, the third in her generation’s rank at home, not the daughter of the Prime Minister. The errors in the previous Chapters have already been corrected~
