Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1454: Chapter 1555 Dengdeng’s Talent_1

Bai Ruozhu had never interacted with the Prime Minister, but hearing Si Yihuan speak this way, she admired the Prime Minister from the bottom of her heart. Being a sixth-rank military officer was already quite a low position, and given the general reluctance of scholarly families to marry into military ones, the Prime Minister truly seemed very open-minded.

”Besides these, is there anything else?” Bai Ruozhu asked again.

Si Yihuan, blushing and hanging her head, said, ”As long as I can come to your house where there’s never a shortage of delicious foods, I would be satisfied.”

Bai Ruozhu burst into laughter. She had always prided herself on being a Foodie, but compared to Si Yihuan, here was someone who truly embodied the term.

However, Si Yihuan’s simple desires of not chasing after fame and fortune, just wanting a husband who wouldn’t take concubines, and enjoying good food from time to time, might indeed make her a good fit for the Bai Family.

After asking the question, Bai Ruozhu saw Si Yihuan gazing at her eagerly and felt remorse stirring in her heart. Why did she have to pry into such matters? Now that she had asked, how was she supposed to respond to this young Miss? She couldn’t make any promises on behalf of her second brother, could she?

”Well, my second brother truly has no interest in the matters of men and women, and what gets decided in half a year will still depend on his and the Emperor’s wishes,” Bai Ruozhu held Si Yihuan’s hand. ”But that doesn’t stop us from being friends. I like nothing more than a fellow Foodie.”

Si Yihuan also started to smile, ”Then it’s settled, you can’t avoid inviting me over for good food just because of any awkwardness.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh loudly, ”Do your parents know how much you love to eat?”

Si Yihuan’s face glowed red, ”I’m not gluttonous, I’m just someone who knows how to enjoy life. Besides, I’m all about tasting the flavors, not gobbling everything down. As long as I don’t become fat, my mother won’t say anything.”

Bai Ruozhu was astonished; Si Yihuan’s mother really had rather low expectations for her daughter in private—it was enough not to become fat.

After they left the restroom, Xue Xue gave them scrutinizing looks, as if trying to read something from their faces. Bai Ruozhu didn’t want to get involved with the Xue Family, but to save face and not to offend this young Miss, she pretended not to notice anything and filtered out Xue Xue’s gaze.

The girls had their fun eating and drinking for a while before taking their leave. Xue Xue seemed to want to stay to talk to Bai Ruozhu, but Leng Wanhua gave Bai Ruozhu a look and cheerfully pulled Xue Xue with her. Xue Xue’s expression was one of wanting to speak but not daring to, almost as if she was going to cry.

Bai Ruozhu pretended not to see, smiling as she escorted them to the Main Gate and then turned around to go back to take a nap with Little Dengdeng.

The next day, Bai Ruozhu was about to go out to the Astrology Tower and Little Dengdeng insisted on following, so she took Little Dengdeng with her.

After seeing Ning Yu, Bai Ruozhu took his pulse and prepared a prescription for him, telling him to take good care of his health. Ning Yu smiled and nodded, looking much better than before.

Little Dengdeng was especially curious about everything in the Astrology Tower, and Ning Yu also liked this cute, quiet child, handing Dengdeng a small wooden toy.

”Watch Uncle Teacher show you how to work it. Just twist here a few times, and it’ll start moving,” Ning Yu said with a smile as he wound up the mechanical toy for Dengdeng, and the wooden dog began to run across the floor.

Bai Ruozhu hadn’t thought much of it, keeping to the side and reading a book on Magic Technique, but she quickly realized this wooden dog was nothing like the wind-up toys from her Toy House. Twisted just a couple of times, it could run for a long while and was extremely agile, even turning corners when it hit a Wall, almost matching modern electronic toys.

”Is this a Mechanical Technique?” Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but ask.

”It was something my master made for me to play with when I was young, using a very simple Mechanical Technique, and now I’m giving it to Dengdeng to play with,” Ning Yu said, patting Dengdeng’s small head. ”You have to take good care of it.”

Little Dengdeng grinned, eyes curving into crescents, ”Thank you, Uncle Teacher, this is so much fun!”

Bai Ruozhu was very interested in Mechanical Technique, but she was only a beginner in Magic Technique. Dabbling in both would mean she wouldn’t be able to delve deeply into anything, understanding only the superficial aspects.

Therefore, she had to put aside her interest in Mechanical Technique for now.

Seeing Dengdeng engrossed in play, she seriously turned her attention to her book, while Ning Yu sat beside her in meditation. He needed to replenish the essence he had expended.

Bai Ruozhu was deep into her book when she suddenly heard a series of cracking sounds. She whirled around to see Dengdeng had taken apart the wooden dog!

”Dengdeng, didn’t I tell you to be careful with it?” Bai Ruozhu was somewhat angry and anxious. This wooden dog was a gift from the National Master to Ning Yu, and Ning Yu had just entrusted Little Dengdeng to take care of it. Yet a child’s capacity for destruction was indeed terrifying!

Frightened by his mother’s scolding, Dengdeng pouted his lips in grievance and said, ”I just wanted to see what was inside, I’ll put it back together.”

Bai Ruozhu turned to Ning Yu, who had been disturbed, and said apologetically, ”See if you can fix it, but once it’s fixed, maybe we shouldn’t give it back to him. Children don’t understand their own strength.”

After she spoke, she noticed Ning Yu staring blankly, not at her, but at the busily working Little Dengdeng. Bai Ruozhu turned her head quickly and saw Little Dengdeng holding wooden pieces in his chubby hands, and he was actually putting them back together, piece by piece.

With wood and gears colliding, there were still the occasional ’click-click’ and ’bang-bang’ sounds. In the blink of an eye, the wooden dog was nearly back to its original form!

Only the last piece remained, which was the most difficult to assemble, and with no tools in Little Dengdeng’s hands and no mechanical skills learned, it seemed impossible for him to put it back.

Yet Ning Yu made a hushing gesture to Bai Ruozhu, his eyes wide as he intently watched Little Dengdeng, or rather Little Dengdeng’s small hands, fearing Bai Ruozhu’s reprimands might distract Dengdeng.

Dengdeng didn’t notice the two adults watching him. He lowered his head with chubby hands trying to fit the last piece into the gap, but it wouldn’t go in. He wiggled the piece, tried different angles, but still couldn’t insert it.

Just when Bai Ruozhu and Ning Yu thought he would give up or throw a tantrum, to their surprise, he put down the wooden dog and the last piece and ran towards the cabinet beside Ning Yu.

He reached out his little hand and took a very thin copper sheet that was not a tool but seemed to be a small part of a Mechanical Technique.

Then he returned to the wooden dog and used the copper sheet to pry between two parts.

With this leverage, he managed to create a little gap for the last piece, and taking his chance, he placed the last piece in. After a series of taps and twists with his small hand, all the pieces miraculously came together again!

Little Dengdeng wound it up, placed the wooden dog back on the ground, and the dog started to walk back and forth again.

Little Dengdeng’s face revealed a sweet smile as he looked at his mother and said, ”Mom, I fixed it, it’s not broken.”

Although Ning Yu hadn’t had a chance to say anything, Bai Ruozhu already guessed what the look in his eyes meant when he looked at Dengdeng.
