Chapter 1471: Chapter 1572: Why Do This?_1

”Originally, I thought it fell in Cining Palace, but fortunately, I found it not far outside the palace before anyone else could pick it up,” Tang Yuwei said with a relieved expression, but then her little face fell again, ”But I didn’t see anyone, and the coachman can vouch for me.”

Hearing this, the coachman hurriedly said, ”Yes, the young miss was indeed only looking for the Jade Pendant, and she had no contact with anyone else. It was I who saw the Jade Pendant on the ground.”

Luan Chao exchanged a glance with his companion, after all, the person in question was an Imperial Relative.

”If Princess Yuwei claims she is falsely accused, then come with me into the palace and explain everything clearly to His Majesty,” Luan said to Tang Yuwei.

”Then let me go; how can I get there if I can’t move? Don’t touch me carelessly; I am, after all, the Emperor’s cousin,” Tang Yuwei pouted, looking like a petulant child.

Luan and Ning Yu both showed difficulty, as neither they nor the guards should touch a princess. Surely they couldn’t have Bai Ruozhu carry Princess Yuwei into the palace, right?

With a sneer in her heart, Bai Ruozhu spoke up, ”That makes sense. I’ll release your acupoints, and you can follow us into the palace.”

After saying that, she advanced and released Tang Yuwei’s acupoints. Tang Yuwei could move again and even politely thanked her, seemingly not blaming her at all. If this girl’s disposition contained no deception, then she was being overly kind.

Bai Ruozhu’s fingertips moved imperceptibly, unnoticed by everyone. She pursed her lips and stepped aside, even putting some distance between herself and Tang Yuwei.

True to form, just as Tang Yuwei took a few steps and was about to reach the Palace Gate, she suddenly threw out a smoke bomb and bolted away.

”Damn it, it was indeed her!” Luan cursed, ready to search for her, but Bai Ruozhu laughed softly and said, ”Don’t worry, she won’t get far. I just wanted to see her reveal her true colors.”

Soon, the Shadow Guards brought back the now unconscious Tang Yuwei, reporting to Luan, ”Team Leader, we found her already passed out.”

Luan and Ning Yu both looked at Bai Ruozhu. Luan couldn’t help but ask, ”Did you poison her? Aren’t you afraid that, if she hadn’t tried to escape, you’d be accused of poisoning an Imperial Relative?”

Bai Ruozhu smiled, ”Why would I? Yes, I did poison her, but the Antidote is on me. As long as she stays within ten meters of me, the poison won’t take effect. If she had obediently entered the palace, I would have secretly administered the antidote.”

Admiration appeared in Luan’s eyes as he bowed to Bai Ruozhu, ”I didn’t realize Bai’s Poison Skills had reached such a level of mastery, truly admirable.”

Bai Ruozhu, not wishing to expose her full strength, said, ”It’s really nothing special. If I hadn’t touched her when releasing her acupoints, I wouldn’t have been able to poison her. Suppressing that Drug Powder was something I was inspired to do by something I learned from my senior, Hao Feng.”

Ning Yu sneaked a glance at Bai Ruozhu. He knew things weren’t as simple as she made them out to be; she didn’t want to reveal her full capabilities.

At this point, Tang Yuwei, drawing near to Bai Ruozhu, smelled the Antidote on her and naturally came to. When she realized that her arms were now bound and she was being escorted by two Shadow Guards, panic, resentment, and anger finally appeared in her eyes.

”Princess, you cannot escape. You will have to explain yourself to His Majesty soon,” Luan said coldly, looking at Tang Yuwei with a sneer.

Tang Yuwei did not play the victim this time, but hung her head in silence, her thoughts unknown.

Soon, they brought her to Cining Palace, and upon seeing the Emperor and the Empress Dowager, Luan reported all that had transpired in detail.

”Yuwei, why would you do this? If you have nothing to hide, why did you run?” The Empress Dowager looked at Tang Yuwei with disappointment. Just two hours earlier, the girl had been keeping her company, telling her jokes, and now she was accused of conspiring with others to harm Diao Bin.

Tang Yuwei kept her head down, not speaking. The Emperor let out a cold snort, ”Speak! Don’t think I won’t resort to torture!”

She remained silent, her head bowed as if she had resolved to keep her silence.

”Summon the Virtuous King to the Palace. I will have him see his precious daughter and hear his explanation,” the Emperor ordered Wang Shun.

Just as Wang Shun was about to leave upon receiving the order, Tang Yuwei’s expression changed abruptly. She raised her head to look at the Emperor and said, ”Your Majesty, please don’t involve my father. He knows nothing of this. He has loyally guarded the Imperial Mausoleum for six years on your behalf, enduring six years of fasting. If not for merit, do consider his hard work. Please, don’t direct your anger at him.”

”If you are so concerned about your father, why would you do something that implicates him?” the Empress Dowager asked angrily.

A look of misery appeared on Tang Yuwei’s face. ”Do you think I wanted this? My father volunteered to guard the Imperial Mausoleum, and our whole family went to that desolate place. I thought suffering a little hardship would be the end of it, but I unexpectedly encountered Duanyan there. Initially, I didn’t know whether he was good or bad; I just thought a Technique Master was very powerful and even mistook him for an Immortal. He offered to take me as his apprentice, and I thought it was a great opportunity. Little did I know he was a thorough villain. Do you think I wanted to do those things for him?”

Sobbing, she continued, ”He cursed my mother. I had no choice but to listen to him, and he even said that if I disobeyed, my mother would be the next to die, followed by my father.”

”The next one?” Bai Ruozhu raised an eyebrow.

”To threaten me, he has already killed my nurse!” Tang Yuwei’s voice was filled with gritted teeth and her eyes brimmed with hatred, ”My nurse died a terrible death, swollen from drinking too much water!”

Bai Ruozhu quickly looked at Ning Yu, astonished that such a spell could exist. Ning Yu nodded slightly in her direction, indicating that it was very likely Duanyan was capable of such a deed.

”Why did he force you to help him harm Diao Bin?” the Emperor asked coldly.

”He said that although the National Master is dead, he refuses to let the master’s disciples go unpunished. He targeted Diao Bin to ruin Young Master Ning’s reputation, to make him suffer unbearably,” Tang Yuwei said with a choked voice.

The Emperor did not speak for a long time, and an eerie silence settled over the Main Hall. Bai Ruozhu knew the Emperor must be hesitating about how to deal with Tang Yuwei.

Bai Ruozhu gave Ning Yu a meaningful look, and understanding her signal, they both excused themselves and exited the hall.

As they left the Main Hall, Bai Ruozhu noticed the reluctance in the Empress Dowager’s eyes, fearing Tang Yuwei would not receive a heavy punishment, but Bai Ruozhu also clearly understood that Tang Yuwei would no longer be able to marry into the Bai Family.

After such an incident, even if the Virtuous King shamelessly persisted in pleading with the Emperor for the marriage decree, the Emperor would no longer entertain the request.

”It’s a pity we didn’t catch Duanyan. Who knows when he will reappear to cause trouble,” sighed Ning Yu.

”It should be quite soon,” Bai Ruozhu said, rubbing her temples. Without Achun, she felt a complete lack of security.

”By the way, with such a huge incident at the Sky Prison, why didn’t Jiang rush to see you?” asked Ning Yu suddenly.

Bai Ruozhu quickly hid the panic in her heart and replied, ”He’s dealing with the Qisha Pavilion affair and is likely not within the Palace.”

Ning Yu did not ask further, and after the two left the Palace, they bid each other farewell. Ning Yu returned to the Astrology Tower, and Bai Ruozhu went back to the Bai Family.

On the way, a pair of eyes hidden in the shadows intently watched her horse carriage, ”Poison Skills? That’s somewhat interesting.”
