Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1457: Chapter 1558: Major Turmoil in the Jiang Family_1

Bai Ruozhu glanced at Dou Yun indifferently, unsure what she had to cry about. Did she want people to think the Bai Family had bullied and wronged her, or did she want Bai Ruozhu and Jiang Yichun to feel sympathetic about her being aggrieved?

But this just seemed too petty, didn’t it? Bai Ruozhu still preferred girls who were strong and independent. Just like Tu Ying, who had liked her second brother in the past, and having been rejected, didn’t wail about it, she instead turned around with grace, which was truly admirable.

Seeing Bai Ruozhu look at Dou Yun, Dou Ning intentionally said, ”Yuner, what’s wrong with you? Weren’t you just fine?”

”Dad, I’m okay. I just got some sand in my eyes,” Dou Yun came up with a lame excuse.

Dou Xingde immediately spoke up, ”What are you talking about? Just now, when my eldest sister went to see mother, mother was upset because of her injury and scolded her a couple of times. Originally, we were a happy family, and now look what has become of us.”

Elder Jiang Ge glared at him, ”What, do you think I’m using the Family Law incorrectly? Do you have an objection to me, the head of this household?”

Dou Xingde shrank his neck, ”Grandpa, that’s not what I meant.”

Seeing him back down, Elder Jiang Ge said nothing more. Madame Jiang hurriedly laughed and smoothed things over, ”Let’s all take our seats quickly, shall we? Today’s Wine Feast was specially arranged by Ruozhu and Yichun to welcome our guests. Everyone can enjoy the feast to their heart’s content.”

As Madame Jiang spoke, she went to pull Bai Ruozhu to take her place at the table. Jiang Zhihe was familiar with Bai Ruozhu and thus sat next to her, passing her the chopsticks.

Seeing this scene, Dou Xingde felt even more displeased and muttered, ”I don’t understand why everyone is so overly enthusiastic, even ready to sell out their own people. It seems our second cousin is ingratiating herself with others, aiming to marry into their family.”

Jiang Zhihe leapt up, pointing at Dou Xingde in anger, ”What nonsense are you talking? What’s wrong with respecting my elder sister-in-law? Have all the books you read over the years been for nothing? How can you say such a thing? Do you even consider me as your sister?”

Out of anger and humiliation, her eyes reddened.

”Am I wrong? I’m just saying how that day our mother and elder sister got abandoned at the Bai Family, left for the Bai Family members to bully them, while you yourself escaped in a horse carriage and then came back to complain to Grandpa. It seems Aunt imperially fancies their wealth and splendor, while you, second cousin, want to ingratiate yourself with the Bai Family.” Dou Xingde said, casting a sarcastic look at Dou Yun, ”Elder sister, don’t bother, they are closer than you, certainly it’s not your turn.”

”You’re talking nonsense!” Madame Jiang exclaimed, ”Cousin, is this how you raise your children? Is it right for him to talk about his cousin in such a manner? Isn’t this just tarnishing Zhihe’s reputation?”

Known for her bad temper, Madame Jiang became even more furious now that her daughter’s reputation was at stake.

Enraged, Jiang Zhihe pointed at Dou Xingde and said, ”We have eaten and drunk at the Jiang Family, and all these years no matter how tough times were, we pinched pennies to help you with your studies, and I’ve done so much embroidery to support you. Now you talk like this, Dou Xingde, has your conscience been eaten by a dog?”

After finishing her outburst, Zhihe stood up abruptly and ran out, crying.

Madame Jiang took a few steps to follow, then turned back, slapped the table and said to Elder Jiang Ge, ”Father, you must stand up for us today on this matter. Dou Ning’s family does not actually share the Jiang surname, they should’ve set up their own residence long ago. If they refuse to leave today, then it’s time to separate our households!”

Jiang Xuexiang was taken aback and reached out to pull on the sleeve of the Madame of the Jiang Family, but before he could speak, she glared back at him and said, ”I’ve had enough. They don’t have to leave today, but then let us divorce. I will take the two children back to the Chen Family, and from now on, they will never set foot in the Jiang Family’s main gate again.”

As she spoke, her voice began to choke up. ”I, as the legitimate daughter of the Bai Family’s Residence, married into the Jiang Family for more than twenty years, eating coarse grains without a word of complaint. But why should my children suffer along, and why should my daughter be insulted by these freeloaders? I cannot swallow this grievance!”

”Enough!” Elder Jiang Ge bellowed, ”Dou Ning’s family is my promise to my sister. They may not carry the Jiang surname but they are members of the Jiang Family, and no one is allowed to drive them away. Also, do not mention living off the family again. Boss of the family, don’t think that just because you are your uncle’s legitimate daughter, the Jiang Family cannot divorce you.”

”Grandpa, is this your justice? Look at what Dou Xingde said today. Zhihe is your own granddaughter, and you let people tarnish her reputation like this?” The Madame of the Jiang Family said, breaking into tears, then turned to Jiang Xuexiang, ”You, speak up, isn’t this family all about fairness? Is this your fairness?”

Realizing the seriousness of the situation, Dou Ning hurriedly tried to smooth things over, ”Ah, sister-in-law, why are you getting so worked up? Xingde is still a child; you take his nonsense too seriously. Besides, aren’t we all family here? Who would intentionally spread rumors?”

”You shut up. If we can’t get a proper resolution today, we’ll leave the Jiang Family!” the Madame of the Jiang Family exclaimed.

Jiang Yihong went over to support his mother, also saying, ”If Grandpa thinks Dou Xingde did nothing wrong, then the Jiang Family won’t have me as a grandson anymore. You might as well keep Dou Xingde as your grandson.”

”You... you...” Elder Jiang Ge was so furious he gasped for breath, seemingly on the verge of having an attack.

Jiang Xuexiang also stood up and said, ”Dad, today I must stand with the children’s mother. Affection is affection, but that should not allow people to be ungrateful or even usurp our home.”

Elder Jiang Ge had not expected his most obedient eldest son to rebut him as well. He pointed at Jiang Xuexiang and uttered ”you” three times, then his eyes rolled back, and he fainted.

Bai Ruozhu felt fortunate that she had not brought Dengdeng along, for such a chaotic scene would have surely scared the child.

To the side, ”Jiang Yichun” looked over at her, his eyes seeming to seek her opinion, not expecting such a tumult to arise.

Dou Ning, quick to react, caught Elder Jiang Ge as he collapsed. Glaring at Jiang Xuexiang, he said, ”Big brother, look at what you’ve done, you’ve made the old master faint. You are unfilial! Ever since Yichun and this woman returned, look what you’ve all become, do you want to anger the old master to death?”

Upon hearing this, Bai Ruozhu felt displeased. Why bring her into this? She hadn’t even spoken yet today.

”What do you mean, uncle? We kindly came back for a meal and even prepared a wine feast, and before we could even sit down, it’s our fault? If uncle dislikes us so much, just say the word, and we promise not to bother coming back again. You don’t need to use Dou Xingde’s insults or find such lousy excuses. Aren’t you concerned about the old master? How come when he faints, you’re not thinking about calling a doctor, but instead, you keep blaming others?”
