Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

”There’s a service area up ahead. We’ll get down and rest for a while. We can eat something too.” Xia Jinyuan yawned and said, ”I’m a little hungry. I need to eat something to fill my stomach.”

Speaking of hunger, Ye Jian suddenly felt a little hungry. She nodded and said, ”Okay, I’ll drive after we finish eating. You can rest.”

The journey was long. They needed to take turns driving.

When they reached the service area, Ye Jian looked at the cars lining up and suddenly smiled. ”Seeing the cars without camouflage prints and the civilians in casual clothes, I suddenly feel as if I’ve been separated from the world for a long time.”

That was true. Ever since she went to the Vanguard Battalion, Ye Jian had never walked out of the desert. The camp was filled with a group of camouflage soldiers. Now that she saw the civilians in casual clothes, Ye Jian was not used to it. She even found it a little strange.

There were very few service areas on the Northwest Expressway. There would only be a simple service area after hundreds of kilometers. Every car that passed by would enter the service area to rest. There were many cars now, and many passengers got off to rest.

There were people driving around, people coming from various cities, and some workers who had entered the desert to participate in the construction. Those who came from all over the world were resting and replenishing their food in the service area.

Xia Jinyuan, who was following the car in front, was amused by the surprise on Ye Jian’s face. There was a teasing smile in his eyes. ”How do you feel about returning to a civilized society from a primitive society?”

”I’m homesick. I’m not used to it.” Ye Jian smiled and sighed. ”It’s only been half a year. I’m really not used to it. Captain Xia, do you have a similar feeling?”

The soldiers who stayed in the military unit for a long time would have the same mentality as Ye Jian, especially the soldiers from remote military units.

In the past, Xia Jinyuan had the same feeling. He found a place slightly farther away from the service area and parked the car. He smiled and said, ”I used to, but I got used to it later. You’ll get used to it in the future. Sometimes, you won’t even want to return to the lively city. You just want to return to the military unit as soon as possible.”

”Oh, no wonder you left in a hurry every time you saw me in the past. It turns out that you don’t even want to see me.” Ye Jian got out of the car and took a few steps. She was a lot less dizzy now. She deliberately found fault with Ye Jian. ”To think that I’d miss you for a long time every time you left. Moreover, it would take a long time for me to get used to it.”

Xia Jinyuan laughed softly. ”After I met you, I hated that the holidays were too short. Even if it was only two days of leave, I wanted to fly over to see you. I’ve collected seven calendars. Excluding the year I first met you, from the next year onward, I’d draw a heart shape on the calendar whenever I saw you. When you return to the team, I’ll show you.”

Hearing about it made Ye Jian smile sweetly. Her gaze was delicate. She quietly glanced at him and pursed her lips. Her smile was like a flower waiting to bloom.

After she returned to the team, she had to take a good look at those calendars.

She calculated how many times she had met Captain Xia over the years and how many days they had interacted with each other. She wanted to see if there were any differences with her memories.

Ye Jian, a female soldier with a heaven-defying memory, could remember every day they spent together as long as she wanted to.

The car was parked a little far away. The two of them, who were wearing camouflage uniforms, didn’t hold hands to maintain their image as soldiers. Instead, they walked side by side. When they passed by a row of cars, Xia Jinyuan paused.

Other people didn’t notice his pause, but Ye Jian did. Her eyes followed the line of cars, but she didn’t find anything.

”What’s wrong?” she asked softly. There was a hint of vigilance in her facial expression.
