Undead Mage from a Cell

Chapter 321: Chapter 319: Midnight Chaos

”What’s going on?”

Gu Xi walked over to Wudou Minami and asked softly, ”In the middle of the night, what on earth are they doing?”

”I don’t know, it seems like something happened over at Maple Leaf Park. I’m afraid it might be the Night Parade of Hundred Demons by the Great Demon.”

”What time is it?”

Gu Xi looked up at the sky. The clouds had already covered the moon, and he couldn’t tell what time it was.

”A little after two-thirty. If you want to wait till dawn, it’s going to be difficult. We’re quite close to Maple Leaf Park, so the Night Parade of Hundred Demons will inevitably affect us, just like now.

I’m not going to talk to you anymore, I still need to reinforce the defenses of the Tenshou Pavilion. If you need anything, you’ll probably have to wait until tomorrow during the day.”

”I’m not...”

”I don’t have time to talk to you now, damn it, it’s the Fierce Yaksha Corps, hide quickly!”

Wudou Minami saw a Demon Corps passing by, hastily dragged Gu Xi down to crouch.

Gu Xi didn’t even have a chance to lift his head before his eyes were blocked by a familiar sweet and cloying scent.

”Let go, let go...”

”Don’t move, outside is the Fierce Yaksha, it will be troublesome if his team spots us.”

Wudou Minami pressed Gu Xi’s head down. Gu Xi felt like the place he was being pressed slid down a bit, and a seafood smell hit him.

”What’s up with them, isn’t it just the Night Parade of Hundred Demons? Can’t we just take them out?”

Gu Xi was mumbling there.

”Taking down some demons is easy, but as soon as we act, it means the Tenshou Pavilion is joining the battle, and demons will come to attack every night, and no one can withstand that.”

Hearing this from Wudou Minami, Gu Xi stopped struggling. He understood Wudou Minami’s thoughts.

Gu Xi is just a passerby. At most, he would stay here for two days and then leave.

Gu Xi could defeat some rogue demons within these two days, but afterward, could Wudou Minami withstand the other demons’ attacks alone?

Taking action without being able to ensure Wudou Minami’s safety is tantamount to causing trouble for her.

”I get it, can you let me go? Your hair is pricking my face.”

”Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.”

Wudou Minami quickly shrunk back and kept apologizing to Gu Xi.

”No, I didn’t mean that; I meant the thread on your clothing.”

Gu Xi’s explanation only made Wudou Minami’s face turn even redder.

Seeing Wudou Minami flustered, Gu Xi simply changed the topic.

”What’s the situation at Maple Leaf Park over there? It looks like the lair of the demons, how come there are endless demons coming out?”

”It used to be woodland in the suburbs. Later, when the city expanded, it enclosed this woodland. It seems like someone once considered leveling this park to build a skyscraper.

But whenever workers went in, accidents kept happening. They hired a mage to deal with it, and it turned out there was a Level 10 anomaly inside, treating this place as a dojo. As long as no one entered, it was fine, so the company eventually gave up on the initial construction plan.

They turned it into Maple Leaf Park.

But except for autumn when the maple leaves turn red, no one usually goes inside.”

”What characteristics does that anomaly have?”

Hearing about a Level 10 anomaly nearby, Gu Xi became intrigued.

”I don’t know, we’ve never seen it. The only thing we’ve heard is that entering Maple Leaf Park when the maples aren’t red makes people want to commit suicide. Many didn’t believe this and never came out again.”

Hearing this, Gu Xi became even more curious, pondering if sending his undead there would result in his undead servants committing suicide.

With further conversation, Gu Xi and Wudou Minami, amidst this dangerous situation, somehow started chatting.

Their topics gradually shifted to the nearby Yitou Middle School.

”Earlier, when I looked towards that school’s abandoned campus, you seemed really anxious. Why is that?”

”You don’t know, that abandoned section of the school has anomalies that dare to show up even at night. Any men who go in get drained of energy and thrown out.

Yet every day, numerous male demons try to rush inside.

It’s truly terrifying.”

”Is that also an anomaly?”

”Of course, haven’t you noticed their buildings haven’t turned into a Tenshou Pavilion?

In this city, only buildings transformed into a Tenshou Pavilion are safe. Ones that aren’t either have strong anomalies inside or are anomalies themselves.

Don’t be skeptical. The city’s nighttime rules far outnumber those during the day.”

”What happens if you enter the school during the day?”

”Not sure, someone seemed to have gone in, but after wandering inside all day without finding a way out, night fell, and they were affected by the anomalies and got thrown out as a dried corpse.

You really mustn’t act recklessly, anomalies are terrifying, and until there’s a way to deal with them, don’t mess around.”

Listening to this, Gu Xi hurriedly assured he wouldn’t act recklessly.

Seeing Gu Xi taking this seriously, Wudou Minami also let out a sigh of relief.

At this point, Gu Xi asked, ”Having two such powerful anomalies nearby, isn’t it relatively safer then? Look at Maple Leaf Park and Yitou Middle School, as long as you don’t go in, you’re fine.”

”Doesn’t seem like it; they aren’t even the strongest anomalies around. The strongest is the well.”

”The well?”

Gu Xi repeated.

”Yes, there’s a legend around here: never look into a well, it’s said the wells connect to the Well Dragon Palace, and if you look in, your soul will be drawn out, never to awaken.”

The way Wudou Minami told the story wasn’t eerie at all. Coupled with her pink pajamas, it didn’t feel like a horror story at all.

However, given the critical information, Gu Xi didn’t dwell much on Wudou Minami.

”But I haven’t seen any wells on my way here.”

”That’s because there are fewer wells now, but every house used to have one in front. At night, those wells indeed would become large portals, but I only heard this from my grandmother.

I’ve never seen it myself.”

As they conversed, time passed by the minute and second.

Wudou Minami, unable to resist sleepiness, dozed off in Gu Xi’s arms.

Ironically, Gu Xi found himself wide awake, sitting with Wudou Minami in his arms at the stairway turn of the Tenshou Pavilion, watching the progression of the Night Parade of Hundred Demons, calculating the enemy forces.

These were all soldiers.

Tearing down a Tenshou Pavilion could earn a land title over 7,000 square meters. If Maple Leaf Park could be taken down, how much land and how many buildings could be acquired?

As he looked in that direction, Gu Xi felt as if he was gazing at a treasure trove.
