Moving On from the Tsundere, I Choose the Perfect Sweetheart

Chapter 99: Chapter 99: So Angry I’m Shaking! Su Hanhan, When Will You Ever Stand Up for Yourself

”Pfft—”

Su Qinghe, who had just emerged from the kitchen with bowls and chopsticks, couldn’t help but laugh at the sight of Gu Yifan’s goofy expression.

Her laugh immediately drew Gu Yifan’s attention.

”Hey!”

”Su Hanhan, what are you laughing at?!”

”Are you that happy to see me get hit?!”

Gu Yifan shot her an annoyed glare and snapped.

”Er...”

”I... n-no...”

Su Qinghe’s face flushed slightly as she quickly suppressed her smile, looking like a well-behaved child caught doing something wrong.

”Hahaha...”

”Qinghe, if you want to laugh, then laugh! We’re not afraid of him!”

Seeing this, Chen Dongmei walked over to Su Qinghe, looped an arm through hers, and said with a grin, looking as if she was ready to stand up for the girl.

Upon hearing this, Su Qinghe threw a timid glance at Gu Yifan, her face beet-red. She lowered her head, not daring to speak.

Seeing Su Qinghe’s reluctance to speak, Chen Dongmei said in exasperation, ”Oh, Qinghe, why are you even looking at him? Don’t be afraid of him!”

”Does that rascal Gu Yifan bully you often?”

”If he does, you tell me right now. I’ll back you up and give him a good beating!”

Gu Yifan was speechless.

He was utterly speechless.

’My mom is really something else!’

’What kind of mother helps an outsider bully her own son?!’

’Don’t people always say that mothers-in-law... uh, and daughters-in-law...?’

Gu Yifan suddenly realized.

’Fine!’

’Well, Su Qinghe... hmm... isn’t technically my wife yet!’

’But who was it that said all mothers and daughters-in-law have a hard time getting along?!’

’Show yourself!’

’I’ll beat you to a pulp!’

Watching his mother teach Su Qinghe strategies on how to handle him, Gu Yifan felt a wave of complete resignation.

’Well, that’s that.’

’My standing in this family has just dropped another spot!’

’Nothing I can do about it!’

’She’s got powerful backing, after all!’

’But, Su Hanhan, oh Su Hanhan, I’d advise you to think this through!’

’In this house, you can be as brazen as you like during the day with my mom backing you up!’

’But when night comes, don’t you come crying to ’Daddy’!’

Gu Yifan thought slyly.

As he thought this, he shot a threatening glare in Su Qinghe’s direction.

Sensing Gu Yifan’s menacing glare, Su Qinghe couldn’t help but shiver. She quickly said in a small voice, ”A-Auntie, Yifan... he doesn’t bully me.”

’So angry I’m shaking!’

’Su Hanhan, when are you finally going to stand up for yourself?!’

Chen Dongmei was completely exasperated.

’So after all that, I’m the one who ends up looking like a fool?’

’I don’t know what kind of spell that brat Gu Yifan has cast on Qinghe to make her defend him like this.’

’Sigh...’

’With a personality as gentle as hers, how is Qinghe ever going to keep that little rascal Gu Yifan in check?’

’I just hope that brat doesn’t end up hurting her.’

Chen Dongmei thought with a helpless sigh.

”Alright, all the dishes are on the table. Everyone, let’s sit down and eat!”

”We can talk about whatever you want over dinner!”

Seeing his wife end up the ’fool’ in this exchange, Gu Jiaguo quickly stepped in to smooth things over.

Afterward, the family of four gathered around the dining table and began to eat dinner.

That’s right.

You heard correctly.

At that moment, Su Qinghe’s relationship with Chen Dongmei and her husband made her seem more like their family than Gu Yifan himself!

In their hearts, Su Qinghe was already one of them.

”Son, you’re an adult now. I’m in a good mood today, so have a drink with your old man!”

Gu Jiaguo offered, a rare occurrence at the dinner table.

Upon hearing this, Chen Dongmei, for once, didn’t object.

But it made sense. Gu Yifan had already graduated from high school and was officially an adult.

With their open-minded views, having a little alcohol wasn’t a big deal.

”Alright!”

Seeing that his mom didn’t object, Gu Yifan nodded.

He then stood up, grabbed the bottle of liquor on the table and opened it. He was just about to use the small tasting cups that came with it when his dad spoke up. ”The small cups are too much trouble. Use these big ones!”

”Uh... okay!”

Gu Yifan paused for a second, then nodded again.

He took the large glass his dad handed him, poured a full measure for his father, and then filled one for himself.

”Hey, you two, don’t overdo it!”

Chen Dongmei couldn’t help but roll her eyes at them as she spoke.

”Psh, it’s fine! We’re celebrating today!”

”Besides, this isn’t very much. A grown man isn’t going to get drunk on this little bit!”

”If a man can’t hold his liquor, how’s he supposed to make his way in the world!”

”Don’t worry!”

Gu Jiaguo waved his hand, standing his ground for once.

Chen Dongmei knew her husband had a point, but she still shot him a look. ”Fine, fine, fine! I won’t say another word! But if you two drink too much, you can both sleep on the floor tonight!”

”...”

Gu Yifan and his father exchanged a look, both remaining silent.

Neither of them took her threat to heart, though.

’Mom was all bark and no bite; she was just saying that.’

’If we really did get drunk, she’d probably be worried sick!’

Seeing the two of them playing possum, Chen Dongmei didn’t press the issue and ruin their fun.

”That baijiu is so harsh, I don’t know what’s so great about it!”

She muttered, then turned to Su Qinghe. ”Qinghe, how about us ladies stick to juice, hmm?”

”Okay, Auntie.”

Su Qinghe nodded obediently and stood up to help pour the juice.

Watching the sensible and sweet Su Qinghe, Chen Dongmei felt her fondness for the girl grow even stronger.

”Come on, let’s raise our glasses for a toast! To celebrate Yifan and Qinghe successfully finishing their college entrance exams!”

”And to wish them the best of luck on their results!”

Chen Dongmei proposed, raising her glass to the others.

”Yes!”

”We should definitely drink to that!”

”As of today, you two are officially adults!”

”I hope you both get into the universities of your dreams!”

Gu Jiaguo added in agreement.

CLINK!

The four of them clinked their glasses together.

And so, the family of four ate and chatted, painting a picture of perfect harmony.

...

「10:30 PM」

”Look at this!”

”I told you not to drink so much, but you just had to, didn’t you!”

Chen Dongmei looked at her drunk husband with fury, then turned to Gu Yifan and said reproachfully, ”Honestly! You didn’t even try to stop your father!”

That’s right.

This rascal Gu Yifan had actually drunk his own father under the table.

And you have to understand, Gu Jiaguo had to drink at social functions all the time for work; his tolerance for alcohol was nothing to scoff at!

Meanwhile, Gu Yifan was merely a little dizzy, not truly drunk.

Originally, Gu Yifan had planned to just finish that one bottle of liquor with his dad and be done with it. However, after they’d finished it, Gu Jiaguo noticed his son’s face wasn’t even flushed and he looked completely sober. So, he told him to open another one.

As they kept drinking, the two of them really got into the swing of it.

While his mom and Su Qinghe were in the living room watching TV on the sofa, they had secretly opened a few more bottles.

In the end, they had opened a total of six bottles. They hadn’t even finished the sixth one when Gu Jiaguo simply slumped over onto the table and fell fast asleep.

And that brought them to the current scene.
