Moving On from the Tsundere, I Choose the Perfect Sweetheart

Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Ye Wanqing: No More Pretending. Cards on the Table! I Just Want You...

Gu Yifan gave her a deep look, then casually made up an excuse. ”Oh, I was studying with a classmate after school, so I got back late.”

’Though I guess it wasn’t really a lie. After all, studying black stockings counts as studying, right?’

While her mother was talking to Gu Yifan, Han Ning stole a glance at him. Her eyes held a complex mix of anger and grievance.

Gu Yifan noticed her look, but he didn’t pay it much mind.

After all, he’d just finished admiring Qinghe in her black stockings—and had even taken pictures. He couldn’t just pull out over there and start licking boots over here, could he?

’Anyway, there’s no way I’m going back to being a simp!’

’Whoever wants the job can have it!’

Since they had guests, Gu Yifan couldn’t just go straight to his room. After changing his shoes, he went and sat on the living room sofa.

He casually picked up an apple from the table and started munching on it.

”Hey, hey, you kid! At least peel it before you eat it!”

Chen Dongmei said with a look of disdain.

”Eh, a little dirt never hurt anyone!”

Gu Yifan waved his hand, a nonchalant look on his face.

Chen Dongmei: ”...”

”Hey, by the way, Mom, didn’t you say this morning that you and Dad had something tonight and wouldn’t be back?”

Gu Yifan asked his mom as he crunched on the apple.

”Oh, we did, but the meeting was canceled, so we came back!”

Chen Dongmei answered casually.

”Huh?”

Gu Yifan froze for a second. ”Then why didn’t you tell me?”

”Ah?”

Now it was Chen Dongmei’s turn to be stunned.

’Oh, right!’

’I knew I was forgetting something today!’

’So this was it!’

Seeing the surprised and bewildered look on her son’s face, Chen Dongmei felt a flicker of guilt and embarrassment.

But the next second, that flicker of guilt and embarrassment was instantly thrown to the back of her mind, disappearing without a trace.

”Pfft~”

”I forgot!”

She waved her hand and said casually, ”Anyway, it’s not like you’d starve. It’s no big deal!”

Gu Yifan: ”...-_-||”

”Mom, there’s something I’ve always wanted to ask you!”

After a moment of silence, Gu Yifan spoke slowly.

”Hm?”

Chen Dongmei frowned. ”What is it?”

”Was I actually adopted? Did you and Dad find me somewhere?”

”Otherwise, why are you nicer to Xiaobai, the neighbor’s dog, than you are to me!”

Gu Yifan said with a mournful expression.

Chen Dongmei’s face darkened. She slapped Gu Yifan on the shoulder. ”You little brat, what nonsense are you spouting!”

”I carried you for ten months and went through hell to give birth to you, okay!”

”Sigh~”

”If I’d known you’d be so disobedient, I’d have been better off giving birth to a piece of char siu pork...”

Seeing his mom about to launch into another one of her lines from those melodramatic TVB dramas, Gu Yifan quickly cut her off. ”Stop, stop, stop!”

”Mom, I was wrong!”

”As long as you don’t speak Cantonese, I’ll do anything you ask!”

’I can’t help it!’

’If I have to listen to that half-assed Cantonese she learned from TV, I’m afraid I’ll burst out laughing!’

”Hmph!”

”I guess you have some conscience left, you little rascal!”

Chen Dongmei said smugly.

”Wait, why don’t you want me to speak Cantonese?”

She suddenly spotted the flaw in his logic and asked, puzzled.

”Why? Mom, don’t you have any self-awareness?”

”Your chili-pepper-flavored, half-assed Cantonese is murder to listen to!”

Gu Yifan said grimly.

Chen Dongmei: ”...-_-||”

”Old Gu, where’d I put my feather duster?”

”Hahaha...”

...

Seeing the funny scene of Gu Yifan and his mother bickering, Ye Wanqing and her husband couldn’t help but laugh.

Meanwhile, Gu Yifan’s dad was trying his best to hold back his laughter. To be honest, when it came to his wife’s Cantonese, he was completely on his son’s side!

But he didn’t dare laugh!

He was afraid the line of fire would turn on him.

Even Han Ning, who had been in a bad mood, couldn’t help but let a small smile grace her lips.

For a moment, the atmosphere seemed to return to its usual harmony.

Yes!

Because the two families were quite close.

Scenes like this had often played out between them before.

...

After the joking subsided, Han Ning’s mom, Ye Wanqing, suddenly spoke up with a sigh. ”Dongmei, our families have known each other for over twenty years, haven’t we!”

”Mhm... It’s almost thirty years now.”

Chen Dongmei replied.

”Yeah, time really flies!”

”So many years have passed in the blink of an eye. Yifan and Xiaoning’er are both adults now!”

Ye Wanqing lamented.

”Sigh~”

”Our generation is starting to get old!”

Chen Dongmei nodded.

For a moment, the two women were lost in a flood of emotions.

Beside them, Gu Jiaguo and Han Jianzhang glanced at each other, somewhat at a loss.

With a tacit understanding, neither of them spoke, just quietly sipping their tea.

Han Ning, for her part, sat quietly to the side, occasionally playing on her phone, seemingly texting someone.

As for Gu Yifan, he was even more detached, sitting off to the side and eating his apple, completely uninterested in the two middle-aged women’s conversation.

...

A little while later.

After the two women finished their reminiscing, Ye Wanqing suddenly changed the subject. ”Hey, Dongmei, what do you think about having Xiaoning’er as your daughter-in-law?”

”Huh?”

The moment she said this, Chen Dongmei froze completely.

In fact, it wasn’t just Chen Dongmei; Gu Jiaguo and Han Jianzhang were also stunned.

As for Han Ning and Gu Yifan, their minds were elsewhere, so they hadn’t heard clearly and continued doing their own things.

”Think about it. Our families have known each other for so many years. Yifan and Xiaoning’er grew up together, they’re childhood sweethearts. We know each other inside and out. It would be wonderful to make our families even closer through marriage!”

Ye Wanqing continued.

”...”

Chen Dongmei still hadn’t processed Ye Wanqing’s words.

But just then, Gu Yifan and Han Ning both heard what Ye Wanqing said loud and clear!

Han Ning’s face flushed crimson in an instant. She stared wide-eyed at her mother, her expression one of utter disbelief!

Gu Yifan’s hand, holding the apple, also froze mid-air. He looked at Han Ning’s mom in shock.

’Holy shit!’

’No, seriously, what is this all about?!’

For a moment, everyone in the room was stunned by Ye Wanqing’s proposal.

”Dongmei, what do you think of my idea?”

Seeing that no one was speaking, Ye Wanqing asked again.

”Well...”

Chen Dongmei finally came to her senses, but for a moment, she didn’t know how to respond to Ye Wanqing’s question!

”Dongmei, I’ve thought it all through. Our two families...”

Seeing that Ye Wanqing was about to say more, Gu Yifan, who was sitting to the side, couldn’t stay seated any longer.

...
