Moving On from the Tsundere, I Choose the Perfect Sweetheart

Chapter 70: Chapter 70: You’re Dating Qinghe? A Warning from Mom

”Ahem... Son, you’re an adult now. There are some things I need to remind you about.”

Gu Jiaguo said after a moment of contemplation.

”Uh...”

Seeing his dad’s serious expression, Gu Yifan subconsciously sat up straight and said weakly, ”No, Dad, you’re looking so serious, you’re kind of freaking me out!”

”Did something happen to our family? Or... did you take a bribe?”

Gu Jiaguo: ”...”

His face darkened when he heard his son’s words!

’This little bastard! Can’t he wish me well for once?!’

”You little brat, what nonsense are you spouting!”

”Am I that kind of person?”

Gu Jiaguo said with a grim face, about to explode with anger!

”COUGH, COUGH.”

”No, Dad, I was just worried you’d made a mistake, that’s all. Hehe...”

Seeing his father getting angry, Gu Yifan said weakly, a bit embarrassed.

”Oh, for heaven’s sake!”

”Just say it! Stop beating around the bush!”

”Let me talk!”

At this point, Chen Dongmei, who was standing to the side, couldn’t watch any longer. She took over the conversation.

”Son, your dad and I just want to ask you, what exactly is your relationship with Qinghe right now!”

She looked at Gu Yifan and asked him directly.

After speaking, she stared at him, waiting for his answer.

Gu Yifan: ”...-_-||”

’So after all that beating around the bush, this is what you wanted to ask?!’

He was at a loss for words!

’And here I thought something serious had happened to the family!’

”Pfft!”

”We’re just classmates and friends. You guys already knew that!”

Gu Yifan said after a moment’s thought.

”Is that so?”

Chen Dongmei glanced at him and said flatly, ”Do you think your dad and I would believe that?”

”What else could it be?”

”What kind of relationship do you want it to be!”

Gu Yifan said stubbornly, feeling a little uncomfortable.

”Hmph.”

”You know perfectly well whether that’s true or not!”

Chen Dongmei said with a hint of disdain.

”Oh, right!”

Then she thought for a moment and added, ”We know the real reason why you fell down the stairs!”

”Back then, we really thought you couldn’t get over Xiaoning’er rejecting your confession and tried to jump off the building!”

”We never expected that you actually fell by accident while trying to save Qinghe.”

”Playing the hero to save the damsel in distress, huh? Not bad!”

”You little rascal, you’re good at hiding things!”

As she spoke, she looked at her son with a meaningful glint in her eyes.

Gu Yifan: ”...-_-||”

”That’s not it!”

”When did I ever hide it? I told you back then it wasn’t because of Han Ning, you’re the ones who didn’t believe me!”

Gu Yifan said, feeling helpless and exasperated.

”Oh, is that so?”

”Did that really happen? I don’t seem to recall.”

Chen Dongmei asked, feigning confusion.

Gu Yifan: ”...”

’Fine!’

’It’s useless talking to her. I knew this would happen!’

”Aiya~”

”None of that is important!”

”What’s important is, your dad and I want to tell you that if you’re really dating Qinghe, we won’t object. In fact, we’d fully support it!”

”It’ll save you from shamelessly following that Han Jianzang’s daughter around all day like a lost puppy!”

”Although Xiaoning’er is a nice girl, and you two grew up together so you know each other inside and out, your dad and I don’t think her personality is a good match for you!”

”However, even though we know she’s not right for you, before all this, if you were dead set on being with her, we wouldn’t have objected either!”

”But!”

”Things are different now. Between Xiaoning’er and Qinghe, you can only choose one!”

Chen Dongmei said with a completely serious expression.

”...”

Gu Yifan fell silent after she finished.

「A moment later.」

”I can only choose one?”

Gu Yifan looked up at his mom and said weakly, but deliberately, ”Can I have them all?”

Chen Dongmei: ”...”

Her eyes widened as she said coldly, ”You little brat, I dare you to say that again!!”

’Listen to him! Is that something a person should even say?’

’How did I give birth to such a scoundrel!’

It wasn’t just her; Gu Jiaguo, who was standing beside them, was also shocked!

’Holy crap!’

’This brat is that audacious?!’

’He actually wants them all??’

’Who does he think he is???’

’I haven’t even settled the score with him for what he said earlier, and now he’s spouting such outrageous nonsense!’

His face darkened several shades more!

”Aiya~”

”Mom, don’t be mad, I was just kidding!”

”You know what kind of person your son is!”

”I’m someone who takes relationships very seriously and responsibly!”

Seeing his mom getting angry, Gu Yifan hastily thumped his chest and explained.

”HUFF... HUFF...”

Chen Dongmei was panting heavily. She was about to explode!

”You’re really rebelling, aren’t you!”

”Trying to be a modern-day Chen Shimei, are you!?”

”If you dare to do something like that, I’ll break your damn legs first!”

She glared at Gu Yifan and said huffily.

Gu Yifan: ”...”

”Hey, I was really just kidding!”

”Besides, I’m not even in a relationship right now!”

”And Mom, the college entrance exams are in less than two months. Is it really a good idea to be talking to me about lovey-dovey stuff right now?”

He said helplessly.

”Tch.”

”As if you wouldn’t be chasing girls if I didn’t say anything!”

”A person has to face reality eventually!”

Chen Dongmei pursed her lips and said with a look of disdain.

”However, you haven’t been following Xiaoning’er around all day like you used to. That’s definitely an improvement!”

”Not bad, not bad. It looks like that fall wasn’t for nothing!”

She added after a moment of thought.

”...”

Gu Yifan was once again speechless.

’My mom’s train of thought really is one of a kind!’

”Alright, I’m done bantering with you!”

”I don’t care what’s going on between you, Qinghe, and Xiaoning’er. In short, I only have one requirement: you are not to hurt Qinghe!”

”That girl, Qinghe, has had a hard enough life already. Don’t you go and make it even harder. If you do, even heaven wouldn’t stand for it!”

Seeing Gu Yifan remain silent, Chen Dongmei’s expression turned solemn, and she spoke with grave sincerity.

It was the first time Gu Yifan had seen his mother so serious. He dropped his playful grin, nodded earnestly, and said, ”Mom, I understand. I know what to do. Don’t worry!”

”Good... You’re an adult now, so it’s enough that you know what you’re doing!”

”Oh, right, there’s one more thing I need to remind you about!”

”Our family is liberal and democratic. Your dad and I are open-minded people. It’s fine for you to date now, we won’t meddle. But with the college entrance exams so close, just don’t get all mopey over it and let it affect your studies or the girls’ studies!”

Chen Dongmei said after thinking for a moment.

”Uh... I know. Don’t worry!”

Gu Yifan nodded.

”Alright then!”

”I won’t say anything more than what’s necessary!”

”Let’s drop the subject here. Go take a shower and get to bed!”

”Don’t interrupt your dad’s and my private time!”

Chen Dongmei waved her hand dismissively and said flatly.

Gu Yifan: ”...-_-||”
