Moving On from the Tsundere, I Choose the Perfect Sweetheart

Chapter 88: Chapter 88: The unobtainable is always in commotion, the favored are fearless

Gu Yifan grew anxious and quickly stood up. ”Aunt Qing, please don’t joke around,” he said. ”Han Ning and I are just friends!”

He emphatically stressed the word ”friends.”

”Oh, Yifan, you and Xiaoning’er have been so close since you were kids. I just think...”

Just then, Han Jianzhang, who was sitting nearby, could no longer stand it. He quickly cut in, ”Wanqing, what are you talking about!”

”Yifan and Xiaoning’er are still young. Why are you bringing this up now!”

Ye Wanqing: ”...”

Seeing she’d been interrupted, she turned and shot her husband a glare.

SIGH~

’What a useless teammate!’

’It’s true what they say: it’s not the god-like opponent you should fear, but the idiot teammate!’

’That Han Jianzhang only knows how to work. He never pays any attention to his own daughter!’

’Doesn’t he know our daughter is completely head-over-heels for that Gu Yifan kid?!’

’Unbelievable!’

Ye Wanqing felt like she could just die from exasperation!

If Han Jianzhang knew what his wife was thinking right now, he would surely cry foul.

He really didn’t know a thing about this!

When Ye Wanqing remembered her daughter running home from school in tears that afternoon, her heart ached at the memory of that pitiful, tear-streaked face.

That incident had confirmed it for her: her daughter had truly fallen for that Gu Yifan kid.

But it was too late. After she had rejected him, Gu Yifan had completely given up on her!

And from what her daughter said, it seemed Gu Yifan had found someone new. Her daughter had even seen the girl and said her looks and presence were in no way inferior to her own—in fact, they might even be superior.

’Between someone you like and someone who likes you... if I were Gu Yifan, I’d also choose the one who likes me!’

And so, she had decided to step in and give her daughter a helping hand.

That was what had led to tonight’s situation.

’But now, after I finally swallowed my pride to bring up this topic, that damn husband of mine has the nerve to undermine me!’

Ye Wanqing was absolutely fuming inside!

She couldn’t stop herself from shooting her husband another vicious glare.

But since they were out in public, she held back from exploding to save her husband some face.

’If they were at home, she’d make him pay!’

Han Jianzhang: ”...”

He understood the look his wife gave him. It meant: ’Just you wait until we get home.’

He felt incredibly frustrated.

’What’s with my wife today?’

’What’s gotten into her?’

He was both helpless and baffled by his wife’s bizarre move just now.

...

Sensing the awkward atmosphere, Gu Jiaguo and Chen Dongmei exchanged a look.

Then, Chen Dongmei stepped in to smooth things over. ”Oh, Old Han, Wanqing was just well-intentioned. Don’t be so hard on her.”

After saying that, she turned to Ye Wanqing. ”But Wanqing, kids these days are all about finding love on their own, aren’t they? This is their business, so we probably shouldn’t get involved.”

”It would be great if they get together, but if they don’t, it’s no big deal. It won’t affect the relationship between our families either way, right?”

”Hehehe...”

Hearing what Chen Dongmei said, Ye Wanqing knew there was no point in pursuing the topic.

”Oh, it’s just that I’ve watched Yifan grow up since he was little and I’m very fond of him. I just wanted to make our families even closer, that’s all. Hmm... I guess I was being too hasty.”

”That’s true!”

”This is something they should decide for themselves. We should just let nature take its course.”

”Hehehe...”

Ye Wanqing said with a chuckle.

Gu Yifan, watching his mother and Han Ning’s mother brazenly discuss the matter as if he and Han Ning weren’t even there, was completely shocked.

’No, wait!’

’Are they really this progressive?’

’But still!’

’Is it really okay for you to be doing this?’

’I’m still just a kid!’

’And the college entrance exams are right around the corner. Is this really the right time to be talking about this?’

Gu Yifan was utterly speechless.

Unlike Gu Yifan, Han Ning just felt miserable.

Especially in that moment when Gu Yifan had jumped up to distance himself from her, she felt incredibly wronged.

Feeling tears welling up in her eyes, she abruptly stood up. ”Mom, Dad, Uncle, Auntie, I just remembered I still have homework to do. Please take your time chatting, I’m heading back first.”

Before anyone could react, she quickly walked out.

”Uh...”

Aside from Ye Wanqing, no one understood Han Ning’s sudden reaction.

The atmosphere turned awkward.

After that little episode, nobody was in the mood to chat anymore.

After a few more sentences of idle chatter, Ye Wanqing and Han Jianzhang got up to take their leave.

After seeing the couple off, Gu Yifan was about to go shower and head to bed, but his mom pulled him back.

”You little brat, get over here. I need to ask you something.”

Chen Dongmei said, her face grim.

”Uh...”

Gu Yifan stopped in his tracks and reluctantly sat back down.

”Your Majesty, the Queen Mother, what is your command?”

He said sheepishly, looking at his mom.

”Don’t you get cheeky with me, you little brat!”

Chen Dongmei glared at him and said irritably, ”Spit it out!”

”What on earth did you do to Han Ning today?”

Gu Yifan: ”???”

”What did I do to Han Ning?”

”I didn’t do anything!”

He said, completely baffled.

”Hmph.”

”Is that so?”

”Then why did her mother show up today, saying she wants you as a son-in-law?”

”Tell me, what does she see in you?”

”Is it your dashing looks? Or the fact that you don’t like to shower?”

Chen Dongmei scoffed, her face full of disdain.

Gu Yifan: ”...”

”Seriously, how should I know what she sees in me!”

”Anyway, I didn’t do anything!”

He said helplessly.

’Damn it!’

’What a mess!’

’Before, when I was desperately sucking up to her, she couldn’t have cared less!’

’And now look!’

’The moment I stop being a simp, she’s the one coming to me!’

’Is it true that you always desire what you can’t have, and take for granted the one who dotes on you?’

’I have to say, Lu Xun was right about that!’

’Hmm... Lu Xun did say that, right?’

’Whatever.’

’Anyway, it’s just like they say: people can’t have it too good, or they start looking for trouble.’
