Medical and Martial God

Chapter 88: Chapter 88 Autopsy

When Ye Xiu arrived at the cafeteria, it instantly fell silent.

Immediately, the students and teachers who were eating or waiting in line all stood up or turned to look.

”Congratulations on your vindication, Divine Doctor Ye!” everyone said in unison.

Sincere excitement was written on every face. They were genuinely happy for Ye Xiu, and for themselves as well.

Previously, when Ye Xiu taught at Shenghe Medical College, no one dared to spread the word. They had worried that if the news leaked, not only would Ye Xiu face public criticism, but Shenghe Medical College would also be implicated.

Now, they were no longer worried. From now on, Divine Doctor Ye could teach openly at Shenghe Medical College. And with him presiding, the college was sure to become renowned throughout the global medical community.

”Please, carry on,” Ye Xiu said with a smile, then got in line to buy food.

”Divine Doctor Ye, please, you go first.”

The students and teachers ahead of Ye Xiu all insisted he go first.

”There’s no need. I can wait in line,” Ye Xiu politely declined.

”It’s no trouble, please go ahead.”

The people in front simply pushed him to the very front of the line.

Unable to refuse their kindness any longer, Ye Xiu turned to the server and said, ”A serving of rice, one of spicy chicken, and one of scrambled eggs with tomato, please.”

”Alright, alright...”

The server, holding the spoon, was so excited that her hand trembled uncontrollably. It shook so much that her scoop of spicy chicken dwindled to little more than sauce.

Ye Xiu quickly joked, ”Ma’am, we’re on the same team here. Shaking like that isn’t very generous of you.”

PFFT!

The people in line behind him couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

The server’s face flushed red with embarrassment. ”Divine Doctor Ye, please don’t misunderstand,” she said awkwardly. ”I’m just so excited. My hand doesn’t usually shake like this.”

”I was only joking. Please don’t take it to heart,” Ye Xiu quickly explained.

Relieved, the server piled Ye Xiu’s plate high with food, then gave him a flirtatious wink. ”Come back for more if you’re still hungry. It’s on the house.”

He chuckled, grabbed his tray, and made a hasty retreat, unable to withstand the server’s amorous gaze.

He had just found a seat when Murong came over with her tray and sat across from him. She didn’t say a word, simply lowering her head to eat.

”How is your cultivation of the Cold Ice Technique coming along?” Ye Xiu asked.

”There are many parts I don’t understand,” Murong replied without looking up.

”After we eat, we’ll find a place, and I’ll explain the mental method of the Cold Ice Technique to you,” Ye Xiu said.

”Mhm.” Murong kept her head down, not even glancing at Ye Xiu. Her heart was a swirl of complicated emotions. He’s only being this nice to me on account of my grandfather.

Seeing Murong wasn’t in the mood to talk, Ye Xiu dropped the subject.

Just then, the Ghost Doctor hurried over and whispered, ”Master, there’s been trouble!”

”What happened?” Ye Xiu asked.

”Zheng Yiwen and the two of our men guarding her have been killed,” the Ghost Doctor whispered.

”What?” Ye Xiu’s expression changed instantly. ”Who did it?”

”Mo Luo and Gong Jin have already started the investigation. Mo Luo’s people are on their way here with the bodies. I think it’s best if you conduct the autopsy yourself,” the Ghost Doctor said.

”Have the bodies sent to your lab. I’ll be there right after I finish eating,” Ye Xiu said, his face grim.

”Understood!” The Ghost Doctor nodded and departed.

Ye Xiu’s expression was now incredibly grim, the anger in his chest boiling like an erupting volcano. He wasn’t angry that Zheng Yiwen had been killed; she had deserved to die. He was angry because someone had dared to kill his people. He was also angry because his own plan for revenge against Zheng Yiwen had been ruined.

Who would be so audacious? The masterminds from the Ming Family who framed me back then don’t have this capability. The Ye Family has no motive to kill Zheng Yiwen. So who could it be?

Ye Xiu suddenly realized that a power he was unaware of was lurking in Jin Ye City.

”Um... can I come with you for the autopsy? Perhaps I can help,” Murong asked timidly.

”You can,” Ye Xiu nodded. ”Hurry up and eat.”

”Oh!”

After they finished their meal, they went to the Ghost Doctor’s laboratory in Shenghe Hospital. The lab was large and contained a dedicated dissection room.

Inside, three bodies lay on the dissection table. It seemed they had just been brought in, as the Ghost Doctor hadn’t even had time to undress them.

”Have you examined the bodies?” Ye Xiu asked the Ghost Doctor.

”I’ve given them a cursory look,” the Ghost Doctor said. ”Based on my initial judgment, Zheng Yiwen died about half an hour ago, while our two men guarding her died about an hour ago.

”All of our people carry life-detection devices, so Mo Luo is notified the moment someone dies.

”That means Mo Luo dispatched people to the cemetery right after our two men were killed. Zheng Yiwen was murdered just a few minutes before they arrived. I’ve already confirmed this with the men who brought the bodies—they said her corpse was still warm.”

Ye Xiu’s eyes narrowed as he listened. ”It seems the killer’s target was Zheng Yiwen,” he said in a deep voice. ”He killed our two men first, talked with Zheng Yiwen for nearly half an hour, and only then did he kill her.”

”That’s what I think, too,” said the Ghost Doctor. ”But what could the killer have wanted to learn from Zheng Yiwen?”

”We’ll have to ask the bodies that,” Ye Xiu said. After carefully inspecting the three corpses, he turned to Murong. ”You come take a look, too.”

”Oh!”

Murong quickly examined the bodies. ”There are no external injuries on any of the three,” she reported. ”Their muscles are relaxed, which indicates they were killed without putting up a fight. Their skin color is normal, so they weren’t poisoned. And there is no blood from the seven orifices, which rules out death by internal injury.”

A look of deep confusion crossed her pretty face. ”Then how did they die?”

The Ghost Doctor was just as confused. ”Could they have been injected with some drug that caused fatal nerve damage? No, that’s not right. If it were severe nerve trauma, their expressions wouldn’t look like this.”

”They all died from the Heartbreak Palm,” Ye Xiu said gravely.

”The Heartbreak Palm? The secret, unteachable technique of the Yagyu clan from Fusang?” the Ghost Doctor exclaimed. ”Are you certain?”

”I know the Heartbreak Palm as well,” Ye Xiu stated.

The Ghost Doctor and Murong no longer doubted his judgment. If Ye Xiu also knew the Heartbreak Palm, he would certainly be familiar with the symptoms of someone killed by it.

”Why would ninjas from the Yagyu clan come all the way to Jin Ye City to kill Zheng Yiwen? And how did they even know she was here?” the Ghost Doctor asked.

Ye Xiu didn’t answer. He stared at Zheng Yiwen’s body in silence for more than half an hour before muttering to himself, ”My mother and I had already been expelled from the Ye Family. Why did she still feel the need to destroy my reputation and hunt me to the very end?”

”Master, what was that?” the Ghost Doctor asked, not having heard clearly.

”Someone instructed Zheng Yiwen to do this,” Murong said.

Ye Xiu’s eyes lit up. ”Not bad,” he said approvingly. ”Looks like you’ve been eating your walnuts these past few days.”

Murong fumed, ”Are we ever going to get past this walnut joke?”
