Medical and Martial God

Chapter 84: Chapter 84 A Kick at the Goal

The competition on the stadium’s soccer field was already underway.

Eleven Ancient Martial Families and sects had gathered here, creating a scene reminiscent of the grand martial arts conventions from television dramas. They used these contests to prove their strength, earn face, gain status, and increase their influence within the circle.

Of course, today’s competition was primarily for the coveted position of leader of the Jin Ye City Ancient Martial Circle.

”Sect Leader Song, it’s already eleven in the morning. Where is this Ye Xiu you invited?” a gray-haired old man on the judge’s platform mocked. ”You boasted to the high heavens, but it turns out Ye Xiu won’t even give you the time of day.”

The taunt infuriated Song Penghui. ”If I said I could invite him, then I can! Ye Xiu is just putting on airs with me. Just wait until he arrives and see how I deal with him.”

”Deal with him?” The gray-haired old man snorted coldly. ”Ye Xiu is a respected Divine Doctor, yet you would treat him like this. With such a narrow mind, I’m afraid you aren’t qualified to be the leader of the Jin Ye City Ancient Martial Circle.”

”Old Feng is right. The leader is supposed to guide the Jin Ye City Ancient Martial Circle to prosperity. This requires balancing relationships and building networks across all fields. By treating Ye Xiu this way, you’re offending the entire national medical community. If you become the leader, I’m afraid we won’t have anyone to treat our injuries.”

”You’re reckless in your actions, petty, and lack any sense of the bigger picture. Sect Leader Song, I think you should withdraw your Vajra Sect from this leadership contest.”

”Ancient Martial Arts belongs to the world of Jianghu. And what is Jianghu? It isn’t the senseless fighting and killing you see in novels and on TV. The real Jianghu is about understanding people and navigating the world. For a man with your low emotional intelligence to aspire to be our leader... I scoff at the thought!”

The leaders of the major families and sects seized the opportunity to denounce and ostracize Song Penghui.

”All of you, shut up!” Song Penghui slammed his hand on the table and shot to his feet. ”The Ancient Martial Circle has always respected martial prowess above all else! The strongest becomes the leader. If any of you disagree, feel free to step onto the field and challenge me.”

His words silenced everyone. Indeed, none of them could defeat Song Penghui. Although he was only an Eighth Grade Grandmaster, his mastery of Horizontal Kung Fu had made him infamous as the most notorious brute in the Xuanse Ancient Martial Circle. His skin was so tough and his body so dense that he was virtually impervious to harm. Even a Great Grandmaster like Mo Qingxuan had only managed to defeat him by slowly and deliberately exhausting his martial prowess over time. It was said that no one in the entire country’s Ancient Martial Circle could break through Song Penghui’s defense.

”Hmph!” Seeing that no one dared to speak, Song Penghui sat back down, satisfied. ”This competition is just a formality. The position of leader of the Jin Ye City Ancient Martial Circle is as good as mine.”

These words made the gray-haired old man and the others feel as though they had swallowed flies. If a brainless, barely literate brawler like Song Penghui really became the leader, he would completely corrupt the entire atmosphere of the Jin Ye City Ancient Martial Circle.

”Ye Xiu is here!” someone in the audience suddenly shouted. In an instant, all eyes turned toward the entrance to the soccer field. Even the martial artists competing on the field paused their matches.

Ye Xiu was seen strolling in leisurely with a cigarette dangling from his lips, followed by the two beauties, Zhu Xiaowen and Yun Lan.

”Ye Xiu...” Song Penghui slammed his hand on the table again and stood up, bellowing, ”I told you to be here before nine! Do you have any idea what time it is now?”

Ye Xiu ignored him, leading Zhu Xiaowen and Yun Lan into the stands and casually finding a place to sit. Only then did he speak with the air of a leader addressing his subjects. ”Don’t mind me. You can all carry on with what you were doing.”

Everyone gasped. To so openly ignore Song Penghui and act so pretentiously... Ye Xiu was openly defying him! He was courting death! In a flash, the disciples of the Vajra Sect rose to their feet, glaring daggers at Ye Xiu.

”You...” Song Penghui’s whiskers trembled with rage. For Ye Xiu to ignore him in front of every martial artist in Jin Ye City was a blatant humiliation. ”Someone!” he roared. ”Drag that arrogant fool who doesn’t know what’s good for him over to me!”

”I’ll do it!” a disciple from the Vajra Sect bellowed, charging toward Ye Xiu with murderous intent.

Seeing this, the crowd mentally cursed Ye Xiu for his recklessness. Even for a titan of the medical world, this was too presumptuous. Publicly disrespecting Song Penghui was simply asking for a beating.

However, just as the Vajra Sect disciple reached Ye Xiu and prepared to strike, Ye Xiu suddenly leaped into the air. With a brilliant and stylish spin kick, he sent the disciple flying.

The audience seats were tiered, and Ye Xiu was at the highest level, a considerable distance from the soccer field and even farther from the goal. Yet, with that single kick, he sent the Vajra Sect disciple soaring through the air and straight into the net of the goal on the far side of the field. He had scored.

The entire crowd erupted. Everyone shot to their feet in shock, staring in disbelief at the now-unconscious Vajra Sect disciple in the goal before turning their incredulous gazes back to Ye Xiu.

From such a great distance! With a single kick! And his target had been a Vajra Sect disciple! Among the more than fifteen hundred people present, very few were confident they could replicate such a feat.

”So Ye Xiu is an Ancient Martial Cultivator, just like us!”

”That Vajra Sect disciple he kicked away is a Fourth Grade. For Ye Xiu to send him flying that far with such a precise kick, his strength must be at least Sixth Grade!”

”Heavens, Ye Xiu is a monster! He won the title of Medicine King at sixteen, disappeared for ten years, and has now reappeared as a Sixth Grade expert!”

The stands were abuzz with discussion. Everyone was stunned by Ye Xiu’s monstrous talent. It was remarkable enough for a person to master a single craft in their lifetime. Yet Ye Xiu had not only reached the peak of medicine by age sixteen but had now, at twenty-six, revealed the strength of at least a Sixth Grade master.

A talent this brilliant and extraordinary can’t be described as a mere genius. He’s a monster!

”So, you dare to disrespect me because you’re also an Ancient Martial Cultivator, and a master at that,” Song Penghui snarled, his fury intensifying. His voice turned cold. ”But do you really think that paltry level of cultivation is enough to challenge me?”

”We won’t know unless we try, will we?” Ye Xiu replied with a faint smile.

”Arrogant!” Completely infuriated by the provocation, Song Penghui bellowed, ”Take him down! Let him witness the true power of the Vajra Sect!”

The gray-haired old man grew anxious and tried to intervene. ”Sect Leader Song, having all the disciples of the Vajra Sect gang up on one man will not reflect well on your reputation.”

”Shut up!” Song Penghui roared. ”Ye Xiu defied my orders first, then ignored, humiliated, and provoked me, and on top of all that, he attacked my disciple! If I don’t teach him a lesson, how can I, Song Penghui, ever hold my head high in the Ancient Martial Circle again?”

Turning to his disciples in the stands, he screamed, ”What the hell are you all waiting for? Get down there and take him down for me now!”

”Yes, sir!” In response, over a hundred disciples of the Vajra Sect in the stands charged toward Ye Xiu, their faces contorted with a rage that mirrored their leader’s. Ye Xiu’s humiliation of Song Penghui was a humiliation to them and to the entire Vajra Sect. If they didn’t subdue him today, they would never be able to show their faces in the Ancient Martial Circle again.
