Chapter 51: Chapter 51: The Killing Intent

Ming Yue and Xing Haiqing returned to the car, a victorious glow beaming on Ming Yue’s face.

”Although our plans to kidnap Qin Qing and destroy Ye Xiu both failed, Ye Xiu won’t dare to touch you or the Ming Family now. You could call this our first victory, right?” Xing Haiqing said.

”Yes!” Ming Yue nodded. ”But as long as the evidence is in Ye Xiu’s hands, my family and I won’t be able to rest easy. We still have to find a way to get it back.”

She didn’t know that this was exactly Ye Xiu’s plan. He kept the evidence private precisely so the Ming family couldn’t eat or sleep in peace, forcing them to live in constant, anxious fear that it might be released at any moment.

”Don’t worry, leave this to me.” Seizing the opportunity, Xing Haiqing touched Ming Yue’s hand and said, ”Now that Ye Xiu is deterred by the Xing Family’s threat, he won’t dare do anything to you or the Ming Family. From now on, we can take our time and toy with him.”

Ming Yue nodded. ”You have a point!”

In her view, with the Xing Family as their backer, Ye Xiu wouldn’t dare move against the Ming Family for now. He would probably target the other masterminds first. This was the perfect opportunity to plan how to get the evidence back and, while she was at it, eliminate Ye Xiu.

Just then, Xing Haiqing’s phone rang.

It was a call from the Old Master of the Xing Family. ”Come to me immediately.” The voice was heavy, and the tone brooked no argument.

”Oh!” Xing Haiqing dared not refuse. After hanging up, he said to Ming Yue, ”Grandfather is summoning me.”

”Should I go with you?” Ming Yue asked.

”That’s fine!” Xing Haiqing nodded.

「The Xing Family Mansion!」

Xing Feihu, the old master of the Xing Family, sat on a stone bench in the courtyard. He watched a video on his phone with a calm expression, but inside, he was anything but.

As a business tycoon, he had witnessed and experienced countless conspiracies and schemes in his lifetime. Ten years ago, when televisions, the internet, newspapers, and various other media were all furiously publicizing Ye Xiu’s supposed misdeeds, he had deduced that it was a conspiracy. Back then, he had adopted an attitude of indifference, content to be a mere bystander.

But he never expected that ten years later, the Xing Family would be so tightly linked with the Ming Family, one of the masterminds behind the plot to frame Ye Xiu.

”Grandfather!” Just then, Xing Haiqing and Ming Yue pushed the door open. Xing Haiqing asked, ”Did you call me back so urgently for something important?”

”Have a look at this!” Xing Feihu handed his phone to Xing Haiqing.

The latter took it in confusion, while Ming Yue also peered curiously at the phone. When the two of them saw the video playing, their expressions changed dramatically.

”Grandfather, where did you get this video?” Xing Haiqing asked in shock.

Ming Yue’s face turned ghastly. It had to be Ye Xiu. He sent this to Xing Feihu. She instantly guessed his motive. And here I thought Ye Xiu was actually afraid of the Xing Family! I thought that was why he publicly admitted he wouldn’t dare release the evidence. I never expected he would send it directly to Xing Feihu! This is a disaster. If Xing Feihu gets scared of being implicated by the Ming Family and forces Haiqing to break off our engagement, my family and I will lose our backer.

”A stranger sent it to me,” Xing Feihu said, his face expressionless. ”Qing’er, if I were to ask you to break off your engagement with Ming Yue, would you listen to your grandfather?”

At his words, Ming Yue’s delicate frame shook violently. She looked at Xing Haiqing with a mixture of fear and anticipation. Right now, only Xing Haiqing can save me and the Ming Family.

”Grandfather, surely you’re not afraid of Ye Xiu, are you?” Xing Haiqing said with a look of disdain. ”Ye Xiu wouldn’t dare make this evidence public unless he wants to make an enemy of the Xing Family.”

Xing Feihu looked at his grandson with disappointment. ”Qing’er,” he said calmly, ”Ye Xiu’s influence is immense. He can use this evidence to completely clear his name. The entire nation’s disgust for him would instantly turn into guilt. His reputation, prestige, and influence would become even greater than before.

”With your relationship with Ming Yue, once Ye Xiu is exonerated, the Ming Family is doomed. The Xing Family will also be crucified by public opinion across the nation. The foundation our family has built for generations could be destroyed in an instant.”

Having said that, Xing Feihu stood and stroked his grandson’s face. ”Ye Xiu is barefoot, while we wear shoes. He is broken rubble, while we are priceless jade. We cannot afford to clash with him.”

”I don’t care!” Xing Haiqing declared stubbornly. ”Ming Yue is the love of my life, my dream. Even if it means mutually assured destruction, I will not call off my engagement to her.”

His words truly moved Ming Yue.

”Are you sure?” Xing Feihu asked.

”I’m sure!” Xing Haiqing nodded.

”Alas!” Xing Feihu sighed. The Xing family line was passed down to a single heir, and Xing Haiqing was his only grandson. He’s such a disappointment, but what can I do? Even if he’s a complete fool, I still have to dote on him.

He knew his grandson well, which was why he was discussing the matter calmly instead of giving a direct order. Even if he forced Xing Haiqing to break off the engagement, his grandson wouldn’t agree. He would just go behind his back to help Ming Yue deal with Ye Xiu, ultimately dragging the Xing Family into the mess anyway.

”Call Ye Xiu,” Xing Feihu commanded. ”I’m inviting him to lunch.”

”Why invite him to lunch?” Xing Haiqing protested.

Xing Feihu was so furious he nearly had a stroke. How could I have such an idiotic grandson?

Remaining calm with great effort, he said, ”I’m inviting Ye Xiu to lunch to act as a mediator and resolve the feud between him and the Ming Family.”

”Oh!” Xing Haiqing finally understood his grandfather’s intention. ”Alright, I’ll call Ye Xiu.”

”Ming Yue, call your grandfather and ask him to join us,” Xing Feihu said to her.

”Okay!” Ming Yue nodded and asked, ”Do you have a way to resolve the feud between Ye Xiu and the Ming Family?”

”This old face of mine still carries some weight,” Xing Feihu said confidently.

”What if Ye Xiu refuses to spare the Ming Family?” Ming Yue asked.

”That won’t be up to him.” A cold glint flashed in Xing Feihu’s triangular eyes. ”If he’s shameless enough to reject my offer, then I’ll get rid of him and eliminate the problem for good.”

Ming Yue was ecstatic. If Xing Feihu intended to kill Ye Xiu, then Ye Xiu was as good as dead!

After his morning classes ended, Ye Xiu was about to head to the cafeteria for a bite, but his phone suddenly rang just as he stepped out of the classroom.

It was a call from Ming Yue!

Actually, Xing Haiqing was supposed to have been the one to call, but Ye Xiu had his phone set to automatically block unknown numbers, so the call couldn’t get through.

”Calling me at this hour? Are you inviting me to lunch?” Ye Xiu asked.

”I am,” Ming Yue replied. ”Would you do me the honor, Brother Ye?”

”It’s a free lunch. Only a fool would refuse,” Ye Xiu laughed.

”Great. Guihe Mansion, the Ziwei private room. I’ll be waiting,” Ming Yue said.

After hanging up, Ye Xiu narrowed his eyes. Ming Yue has already shown her hand. There’s definitely a scheme behind this sudden lunch invitation.

”I advise you not to go. It must be a trap,” Murong’s voice suddenly rang out beside him.
